Salmenes 37
1 Av David. La ikke din vrede optendes over de onde, bli ikke harm over dem som gjør urett!
“Of David.” Do not fret thyself because of the evil-doers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.
2 For som gresset blir de hastig avskåret, og som grønne urter visner de bort.
For like the grass they shall soon be mowed down, and like the green herb shall they wither.
3 Sett din lit til Herren og gjør godt, bo i landet og legg vinn på trofasthet!
Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land, and feed [thyself] with truthfulness.
4 Og gled dig i Herren! Så skal han gi dig hvad ditt hjerte attrår.
And delight thyself in the Lord, and he will give thee the wishes of thy heart.
5 Sett din vei i Herrens hånd og stol på ham! Han skal gjøre det;
Commit thy way unto the Lord, and trust in him: and he will accomplish it.
6 han skal la din rettferdighet gå frem som lyset og din rett som middagens lys.
And he will bring forth as the light thy righteousness, and the justice of thy [cause] as the noonday.
7 Vær stille for Herren og vent på ham! La ikke din vrede optendes over den som har lykke på sin vei, over den mann som uttenker onde råd.
Be silent before the Lord, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who practices wicked devices.
8 Lat av fra vrede og la harme fare, la ikke din vrede optendes! Det fører bare til det som ondt er.
Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.
9 For de onde skal utryddes, men de som bier efter Herren, skal arve landet.
For evil-doers shall be cut off; but those that wait upon the Lord, these—shall truly inherit the land.
10 Og om en liten stund, så er den ugudelige ikke mere, og akter du på hans sted, så er han borte.
For yet but for a little while, and the wicked shall be no more: yea, thou wilt look carefully at his place, and he shall not be there.
11 Men de saktmodige skal arve landet og glede sig ved megen fred.
But the meek shall inherit the land, and shall delight themselves because of the abundance of peace.
12 Den ugudelige optenker ondt imot den rettferdige og skjærer tenner imot ham.
The wicked purposeth evil against the just, and gnasheth against him with his teeth.
13 Herren ler av ham; for han ser at hans dag kommer.
The Lord will laugh at him; for he seeth that his day is coming.
14 De ugudelige drar sverdet og spenner sin bue for å felle den elendige og fattige og slå dem ihjel som vandrer opriktig.
The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow, to cause the poor and needy to fall, and to slaughter such as are of an upright course [of life].
15 Deres sverd skal komme i deres eget hjerte, og deres buer skal sønderbrytes.
[But] their sword shall enter into their own heart, and their bows shall be broken.
16 Bedre er det lille som den rettferdige har, enn mange ugudeliges rikdom.
Better is the little that the righteous hath, than the great riches of many wicked.
17 For de ugudeliges armer skal sønderbrytes, men Herren støtter de rettferdige.
For the arms of the wicked shall be broken: but the upholder of the righteous is the Lord.
18 Herren kjenner de ulasteliges dager, og deres arv skal bli til evig tid.
The Lord regardeth the days of the upright: and their inheritance shall endure for ever.
19 De skal ikke bli til skamme i den onde tid, og i hungerens dager skal de mettes.
They shall not be made ashamed in the time of unhappiness; and in the days of famine shall they be satisfied.
20 For de ugudelige skal gå til grunne og Herrens fiender som engenes blomsterskrud; de skal forsvinne, som røk skal de forsvinne.
But the wicked shall perish, and the enemies of the Lord shall be as the beauty of the meadow: they pass away; in smoke they pass away.
21 Den ugudelige låner og betaler ikke, men den rettferdige forbarmer sig og gir.
The wicked borroweth, and repayeth not; but the righteous is beneficent, and giveth.
22 For de han velsigner, skal arve landet, men de han forbanner, skal utryddes.
For those blessed of him shall inherit the land; and those cursed of him shall be cut off.
23 Herren gjør en manns gang fast, og han har velbehag i hans vei.
By the Lord are the steps of the righteous man established; and he findeth pleasure in his course [of life].
24 Når han snubler, faller han ikke til jorden; for Herren støtter hans hånd.
Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; for the Lord upholdeth his hand.
25 Jeg har vært ung og er blitt gammel, men ikke har jeg sett den rettferdige forlatt eller hans avkom søke efter brød.
I have been young, and I am also grown old: yet have I never seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed seeking for bread.
26 Den hele dag forbarmer han sig og låner ut, og hans avkom blir velsignet.
He is all the time beneficent, and lendeth: and his seed will be for a blessing.
27 Vik fra ondt og gjør godt! Så skal du bli boende til evig tid.
Depart from evil, and do good; and dwell for evermore.
28 For Herren elsker rett og forlater ikke sine fromme; til evig tid blir de bevart. Men de ugudeliges avkom utryddes.
For the Lord loveth justice, and never forsaketh his pious servants: they are for ever preserved; but the seed of the wicked will be cut off.
29 De rettferdige skal arve landet og bo i det evindelig.
The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell for ever therein.
30 Den rettferdiges munn taler visdom, og hans tunge sier hvad rett er.
The mouth of the righteous uttereth wisdom, and his tongue speaketh what is just.
31 Hans Guds lov er i hans hjerte, hans trin vakler ikke.
The law of his God is in his heart: none of his steps shall slip.
32 Den ugudelige lurer på den rettferdige og søker å drepe ham;
The wicked looketh out for the righteous, and seeketh to slay him.
33 Herren overlater ham ikke i hans hånd, og fordømmer ham ikke når han blir dømt.
The Lord will not leave him in his hand, and will not condemn him when he is judged.
34 Bi på Herren og ta vare på hans vei! Så skal han ophøie dig til å arve landet; du skal se på at de ugudelige utryddes.
Wait on the Lord, and keep his way, and he will exalt thee to inherit the land: when the wicked are cut off, shalt thou look on.
35 Jeg så en ugudelig som var veldig og utbredte sig som et grønt tre som ikke er flyttet;
I have seen the wicked terrible in power, and striking root like a green tree in its native soil.
36 men han forsvant, og se, han var ikke mere, og jeg søkte efter ham, men han fantes ikke.
Yet he passed away, and, lo, he was no more: and I sought him, but he could not be found.
37 Akt på den ulastelige og se på den opriktige! for fredens mann har en fremtid;
Observe the perfect man, and behold the upright; for there is a [happy] future for the man of peace.
38 men overtrederne skal tilintetgjøres alle sammen, de ugudeliges fremtid skal avskjæres.
But the transgressors are destroyed together: the future of the wicked is cut off.
39 Og de rettferdiges frelse kommer fra Herren, deres sterke vern i nødens tid.
And the salvation of the righteous is from the Lord: he is their strong-hold in the time of distress.
40 Og Herren hjelper dem og utfrir dem, han utfrir dem fra de ugudelige og frelser dem, fordi de har tatt sin tilflukt til ham.
And the Lord helpeth them, and delivereth them; he will deliver them from the wicked, and save them; because they have put their trust in him.
