Salmenes 107
1 Pris Herren, for han er god, hans miskunnhet varer evindelig.
Give thanks to Yahweh, for he is good, and his covenant faithfulness endures forever.
2 Så sie Herrens gjenløste, de som han har gjenløst av nødens hånd,
Let the redeemed of Yahweh speak out, those he has rescued from the hand of the enemy.
3 og som han har samlet fra landene, fra øst og fra vest, fra nord og fra havet.
He has gathered them out of foreign lands, from the east and from the west, from the north and from the south.
4 De fór vill i ørkenen, i et uveisomt øde, de fant ikke en by å bo i.
They wandered in the wilderness on a desert road and found no city in which to live.
5 De var hungrige og tørste, deres sjel vansmektet i dem.
Because they were hungry and thirsty, they fainted from exhaustion.
6 Da ropte de til Herren i sin nød; av deres trengsler utfridde han dem,
Then they called out to Yahweh in their trouble, and he rescued them out of their distress.
7 og han førte dem på rett vei, så de gikk til en by de kunde bo i.
He led them by a direct path so that they would go to a city to live in.
8 De skal prise Herren for hans miskunnhet og for hans undergjerninger mot menneskenes barn;
Oh that people would praise Yahweh for his covenant faithfulness and for the amazing things he has done for humanity!
9 for han mettet den vansmektende sjel og fylte den hungrige sjel med godt.
For he satisfies the longings of those who are thirsty, and the desires of those who are hungry he fills up with good things.
10 De satt i mørke og i dødsskygge, bundet i elendighet og jern,
Some sat in darkness and in gloom, prisoners in affliction and chains.
11 fordi de hadde vært gjenstridige mot Guds ord og foraktet den Høiestes råd.
This was because they had rebelled against God's word and rejected the instruction of the Most High.
12 Derfor bøide han deres hjerter ved lidelse; de snublet, og det var ikke nogen hjelper.
He humbled their hearts through hardship; they stumbled and there was no one to help them up.
13 Da ropte de til Herren i sin nød; av deres trengsler frelste han dem.
Then they called out to Yahweh in their trouble, and he brought them out of their distress.
14 Han førte dem ut av mørke og dødsskygge og rev sønder deres bånd.
He brought them out of darkness and gloom and broke their bonds.
15 De skal prise Herren for hans miskunnhet og for hans undergjerninger mot menneskenes barn;
Oh that people would praise Yahweh for his covenant faithfulness and for the amazing things he has done for humanity!
16 for han brøt sønder porter av kobber og hugg sønder bommer av jern.
For he has broken the gates of bronze and cut through the bars of iron.
17 De var dårer og blev plaget for sin syndige vei og for sine misgjerninger;
They were foolish in their rebellious ways and afflicted because of their sins.
18 deres sjel vemmedes ved all mat, og de kom nær til dødens porter.
They lost their desire to eat any food, and they came close to the gates of death.
19 Da ropte de til Herren i sin nød; av deres trengsler frelste han dem.
Then they called out to Yahweh in their trouble, and he brought them out of their distress.
20 Han sendte sitt ord og helbredet dem og reddet dem fra deres graver.
He sent his word and healed them, and he rescued them from their destruction.
21 De skal prise Herren for hans miskunnhet og for hans undergjerninger mot menneskenes barn;
Oh that people would praise Yahweh for his covenant faithfulness and for the amazing things he has done for humanity!
22 og ofre takkoffere og fortelle om hans gjerninger med jubel.
Let them offer the sacrifices of thanksgiving and proclaim his deeds in singing.
23 De som fór ut på havet i skib, som drev handel på store vann,
Some travel on the sea in ships and do business overseas.
24 de så Herrens gjerninger og hans underverker på dypet.
These saw the deeds of Yahweh and his wonders on the seas.
25 Han bød og lot det komme en stormvind, og den reiste dets bølger.
For he commanded and aroused the windstorm that stirs up the seas.
26 De fór op imot himmelen, de fór ned i avgrunnene, deres sjel blev motløs i ulykken.
They reached up to the sky; they went down to the depths. Their lives melted away in distress.
27 De tumlet og vaklet som en drukken mann, og all deres visdom blev til intet.
They swayed and staggered like drunkards and were at their wits' end.
28 Da ropte de til Herren i sin nød, og av deres trengsler førte han dem ut.
Then they called out to Yahweh in their trouble, and he brought them out of their distress.
29 Han lot stormen bli til stille, og bølgene omkring dem tidde.
He calmed the storm, and the waves were stilled.
30 Og de gledet sig over at de la sig; og han førte dem til den havn de ønsket.
Then they rejoiced because the sea was calm, and he brought them to their desired harbor.

Oh that people would praise Yahweh for his covenant faithfulness and for the amazing things he has done for humanity!
32 og ophøie ham i folkets forsamling og love ham der hvor de gamle sitter.
Let them exalt him in the assembly of the people and praise him in the council of the elders.
33 Han gjorde elver til en ørken og vannkilder til et tørstig land,
He turns rivers into a wilderness, springs of water into dry land,
34 et fruktbart land til et saltland for deres ondskaps skyld som bodde der.
and a fruitful land into a barren place because of the wickedness of its people.
35 Han gjorde en ørken til en vannrik sjø og et tørt land til vannkilder.
He turns the wilderness into a pool of water and dry land into springs of water.
36 Og han lot de hungrige bo der, og de grunnla en by til å bo i.
He settles the hungry there, and they build a city to live in.
37 Og de tilsådde akrer og plantet vingårder, og de vant den frukt de bar.
They build a city to plant fields in, to plant vineyards, and to bring in an abundant harvest.
38 Og han velsignet dem, og de blev meget tallrike, og av fe gav han dem ikke lite.
He blesses them so they are very numerous. He does not let their cattle decrease in number.
39 Så minket de igjen og blev nedbøiet ved trengsel, ulykke og sorg.
They were diminished and brought low by painful distress and suffering.
40 Han som utøser forakt over fyrster og lar dem fare vill i et uveisomt øde,
He pours contempt on the leaders and causes them to wander in the wilderness, where there are no roads.
41 han ophøiet den fattige av elendighet og gjorde slektene som hjorden.
But he protects the needy from affliction and cares for his families like a flock.
42 De opriktige ser det og gleder sig, og all ondskap lukker sin munn.
The upright will see this and rejoice, and all wickedness shuts its mouth.
43 Den som er vis, han akte på dette og merke på Herrens nådegjerninger!
Whoever is wise should take note of these things and meditate on Yahweh's acts of covenant faithfulness.
