1 Da nu Moses var ferdig med å reise tabernaklet og hadde salvet det og helliget det med alt som hørte til det, og likeledes salvet og helliget alteret med alt som hørte til det,
On the same day that Moses finished putting up the Tabernacle, he anointed it and dedicated it, along with all its furniture, the altar, and all its utensils.
2 da kom Israels høvdinger, overhodene for sine familier, stammefyrstene, de som stod over alle som var blitt mønstret, og bar frem gaver.
The Israelite leaders who were the heads of their families came and gave an offering. They were the same leaders of the tribes who had worked on the registration of the Israelites.
3 De bar sin gave frem for Herrens åsyn, seks vogner med dekke over og tolv okser, en vogn for to høvdinger og en okse for hver; og de førte dem frem foran tabernaklet.
They brought to the Lord an offering of six covered wagons and twelve oxen. Each leader gave an ox, and two leaders shared in giving a wagon. They presented them in front of the Tabernacle.
4 Og Herren sa til Moses:
The Lord told Moses,
5 Ta imot dette av dem, forat det kan brukes til tjenesten ved sammenkomstens telt, og du skal gi det til levittene, efter som enhver av dem trenger det til sin tjeneste.
“Accept what they're giving you and use them in the work of the Tent of Meeting. Give them to the Levites to use as required.”

Moses accepted the wagons and oxen and handed them over to the Levites.
7 To av vognene og fire av oksene gav han til Gersons barn, efter deres særlige tjeneste.
He gave two wagons and four oxen to the families of Gershon to use as they required.
8 Og fire av vognene og åtte av oksene gav han til Meraris barn, efter deres særlige tjeneste under opsyn av Itamar, sønn til Aron, presten.
He gave four wagons and eight oxen to the families of Merari, to use as they required. The work was all to be done under the direction of Ithamar, son of Aaron the priest.
9 Men til Kahats barn gav han ikke noget, fordi de skulde ta vare på de hellige ting og bære dem på sine skuldrer.
He didn't give any wagons or oxen to the Kohathites because their responsibility was to carry on their shoulders the holy objects assigned to their care.

The day the altar was anointed, the leaders came forward with their dedicatory offerings, presenting them in front of it.
11 Da sa Herren til Moses: La høvdingene komme med sin gave til alterets innvielse hver sin dag!
The Lord told Moses, “Have one leader come every day and present his offering for the dedication of the altar.”
12 Og den som bar frem sin gave den første dag, var Nahson, Amminadabs sønn, høvdingen for Juda stamme.
The first day Nahshon, son of Amminadab, of the tribe of Judah came forward with his offering.

88 Og storfeet til takkofferet var i alt fire og tyve okser; dertil kom seksti værer, seksti bukker og seksti årsgamle lam. Dette var gavene til alterets innvielse, efterat det var salvet.
The animals presented as a peace offering were twenty-four bulls, sixty rams, sixty male goats, and sixty one-year-old male lambs. This was the dedicatory offering for the altar once it had been anointed.

Whenever Moses went into the Tent of Meeting to speak with the Lord, he would hear the voice speaking to him from the atonement cover on the Ark of the Testimony between the two cherubim. This is how the Lord spoke to him.
