4 Mosebok 32
1 Rubens barn og Gads barn hadde en mengde fe, en svær mengde; og da de så at Jasers land og Gileads land var vel skikket for feavl,
And the sons of Ruben and Gad had many flocks of cattle, and their substance in beasts was infinite. And when they saw the lands of Jazer and Galaad fit for feeding cattle,
2 kom de - både Gads barn og Rubens barn - og sa til Moses og Eleasar, presten, og menighetens høvdinger:
They came to Moses and Eleazar the priest, and the princes of the multitude, and said:
3 Atarot og Dibon og Jaser og Nimra og Hesbon og El'ale og Sebam og Nebo og Beon,
Ataroth, and Dibon, and Jazer, and Nemra, Hesebon, and Eleale, and Saban, and Nebo, and Beon,
4 det land som Herren har latt Israels menighet vinne med sverdet, er et land som er vel skikket for feavl, og dine tjenere har meget fe.
The land, which the Lord hath conquered in the sight of the children of Israel, is a very fertile soil for the feeding of beasts: and we thy servants have very much cattle:
5 Og de sa: Dersom vi har funnet nåde for dine øine, så la dine tjenere få dette land til eiendom, la oss slippe å dra over Jordan!
And we pray thee, if we have found favour in thy sight, that thou give it to us thy servants in possession, and make us not pass over the Jordan.
6 Da sa Moses til Gads barn og Rubens barn: Skal eders brødre dra i krigen, og I bli her?
And Moses answered them: What, shall your brethren go to fight, and will you sit here?
7 Hvorfor vil I vende Israels barns hu bort, så de ikke vil dra over til det land Herren hat gitt dem?
Why do ye overturn the minds of the children of Israel, that they may not dare to pass into the place which the Lord hath given them?
8 Det samme gjorde eders fedre da jeg sendte dem fra Kades-Barnea for å se på landet;
Was it not thus your fathers did, when I sent from Cadesbarne to view the land?
9 da de hadde draget op til Eskoldalen og hadde sett på landet, vendte de Israels barns hu bort, så de ikke vilde gå inn i det land Herren hadde gitt dem.
And when they were come as far as the valley of the cluster, having viewed all the country, they overturned the hearts of the children of Israel, that they should not enter into the coasts, which the Lord gave them.
10 Den dag optendtes Herrens vrede, og han svor og sa:
And he swore in his anger, saying:
11 Ingen av de menn som drog op fra Egypten, fra tyveårsalderen og opover, skal få se det land som jeg har tilsvoret Abraham, Isak og Jakob; for de har ikke fulgt mig som de skulde -
If these men, that came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land, which I promised with an oath to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob: because they would not follow me,
12 ingen uten Kaleb, Jefunnes sønn, kenisitten, og Josva, Nuns sønn; for de har trolig fulgt Herren.
Except Caleb the son of Jephone the Cenezite, and Josue the son of Nun: these have fulfilled my will.
13 Så optendtes Herrens vrede mot Israel, og han lot dem vanke om i ørkenen i firti år, til hele den slekt var utdød som hadde gjort det som var ondt i Herrens øine.
And the Lord being angry against Israel, led them about through the desert forty years, until the whole generation, that had done evil in his sight, was consumed.
14 Og nu treder I i eders fedres spor, en yngel av syndige menn, for ennu mere å øke Herrens brennende vrede mot Israel;
And behold, said he, you are risen up instead of your fathers, the increase and offspring of sinful men, to augment the fury of the Lord against Israel.
15 for vender I eder bort, så I ikke vil følge ham, da vil han la Israel bli ennu lenger i ørkenen, og I vil føre ulykke over hele dette folk.
For if you will not follow him, he will leave the people in the wilderness, and you shall be the cause of the destruction of all.
16 Da gikk de frem til ham og sa: Vi vil bare bygge hegn her for vårt fe og byer for våre kvinner og barn,
But they coming near, said: We will make sheepfolds, and stalls for our cattle, and strong cities for our children:
17 men selv vil vi skyndsomt væbne oss og dra frem foran Israels barn, til vi har ført dem dit de skal; men våre kvinner og barn skal bli i de faste byer, så de kan være trygge for landets innbyggere.
And we ourselves will go armed and ready for battle before the children of Israel, until we bring them in unto their places. Our little ones, and all we have, shall be in walled cities, for fear of the ambushes of the inhabitants.
18 Vi vil ikke vende tilbake til våre hus før Israels barn har fått hver sin arv;
We will not return into our houses until the children of Israel possess their inheritance:
19 for vi vil ikke ta arv med dem på den andre side av Jordan og lenger borte når vi har fått vår arv på denne side, østenfor Jordan.
Neither will we seek any thing beyond the Jordan, because we have already our possession on the east side thereof,
20 Da sa Moses til dem: Dersom I gjør dette, så I væbner eder for Herrens åsyn til krigen,
And Moses said to them: If you do what you promise, go on well appointed for war before the Lord:
21 og alle eders væbnede menn drar over Jordan for Herrens åsyn, til han har drevet sine fiender bort fra sine øine,
And let every fighting man pass over the Jordan, until the Lord overthrow his enemies:
22 og I ikke vender tilbake før landet er undertvunget for Herrens åsyn, så skal I være uten skyld både for Herren og for Israel, og I skal ha landet her til eiendom for Herrens åsyn.
And all the land be brought under him, then shall you be blameless before the Lord and before Israel, and you shall obtain the countries that you desire, before the Lord.
23 Men dersom I ikke gjør så, da synder I mot Herren, og I skal vite at eders synd skal finne eder.
But if you do not what you say, no man can doubt but you sin against God: and know ye, that your sin shall overtake you.
24 Bygg eder da byer for eders kvinner og barn og hegn for eders småfe, og gjør som I har lovt!
Build therefore cities for your children, and folds and stalls for your sheep and beasts, and accomplish what you have promised.
25 Da sa Gads barn og Rubens barn til Moses: Dine tjenere skal gjøre som min herre har befalt;
And the children of Gad and Ruben said to Moses: We are thy servants, we will do what my lord commandeth.
26 våre barn, våre hustruer, vårt fe og alle våre kløvdyr skal bli her i Gileads byer;
We will leave our children, and our wives and sheep and cattle, in the cities of Galaad:
27 men dine tjenere, så mange av oss som er væbnet til strid, vil dra over Jordan for Herrens åsyn og være med i krigen, således som min herre sier.
And we thy servants all well appointed will march on to the war, as thou, my lord, speakest.
28 Og Moses gav befaling om dem til Eleasar, presten, og Josva, Nuns sønn, og overhodene for familiene i Israels barns stammer.
Moses therefore commanded Eleazar the priest, and Josue the son of Nun, and the princes of the families of all the tribes of Israel, and said to them:
29 Og Moses sa til dem: Dersom Gads barn og Rubens barn, så mange av dem som er væbnet, drar med eder over Jordan til krigen for Herrens åsyn, og I legger landet under eder, da skal I gi dem Gileads land til eiendom;
If the children of Gad, and the children of Ruben pass with you over the Jordan, all armed for war before the Lord, and the land be made subject to you: give them Galaad in possession.
30 men dersom de ikke drar væbnet over med eder, da skal de få sin eiendom i Kana'ans land, sammen med eder andre.
But if they will not pass armed with you into the land of Chanaan, let them receive places to dwell in among you.
31 Og Gads barn og Rubens barn svarte og sa: Det som Herren har sagt til dine tjenere, det vil vi gjøre;
And the children of Gad, and the children of Ruben answered: As the Lord hath spoken to his servants, so will we do:
32 Vi vil dra væbnet over til Kana'ans land for Herrens åsyn, men vår arve-eiendom skal være på denne side av Jordan.
We will go armed before the Lord into the land of Chanaan, and we confess that we have already received our possession beyond the Jordan.
33 Så lot Moses Gads barn og Rubens barn og halvdelen av Manasses, Josefs sønns stamme få de riker som Sihon, amorittenes konge, og Og, kongen i Basan, hadde eid, hele landet med byer og omliggende marker, alle byene i landet rundt omkring.
Moses therefore gave to the children of Cad and of Ruben, and to the half tribe of Manasses the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sehon king of the Amorrhites, and the kingdom of Og king of Basan, and their land and the cities thereof round about.
34 Og Gads barn bygget op igjen Dibon og Atarot og Aroer
And the sons of Cad built Dibon, and Ataroth, and Aroer,
35 og Atrot-Sofan og Jaser og Jogbeha
And Etroth, and Sophan, and Jazer, and Jegbaa,
36 og Bet-Nimra og Bet-Haran, faste byer og hegn for feet.
And Bethnemra, and Betharan, fenced cities, and folds for their cattle.
37 Og Rubens barn bygget op igjen Hesbon og El'ale og Kirjata'im
But the children of Ruben built Hesebon, and Eleale, and Cariathaim,
38 og Nebo og Ba'al-Meon, hvis navn blev forandret, og Sibma; og de gav de byer som de bygget op igjen, deres navn.
And Nabo, and Baalmeon (their names being changed) and Sabama: giving names to the cities which they had built.
39 Og Makirs, Manasses sønns barn drog til Gilead og inntok det og drev amorittene, som bodde der, bort.
Moreover the children of Machir, the son of Manasses, went into Galaad, and wasted it, cutting off the Amorrhites, the inhabitants thereof.
40 Og Moses gav Makir, Manasses sønn, Gilead, og han bodde der.
And Moses gave the land of Galaad to Machir the son of Manasses, and he dwelt in it.
41 Og Ja'ir, Manasses sønn, drog avsted og inntok deres landsbyer; og han kalte dem Ja'irs byer.
And Jair the son of Manasses went, and took the villages thereof, and he called them Havoth Jair, that is to say, the villages of Jair.
42 Og Nobah drog avsted og inntok Kenat med tilhørende småbyer; og han kalte det Nobah efter sitt eget navn.
Nobe also went, and took Canath with the villages thereof: and he called it by his own name, Nobe.
