Jeremias 40
1 Dette er det ord som kom til Jeremias fra Herren efterat Nebusaradan, høvdingen over livvakten, hadde løslatt ham fra Rama, da han hentet ham mens han var bundet med lenker midt iblandt alle de fanger fra Jerusalem og Juda som blev bortført til Babel.
The word which came to Jeremiah from Jehovah, after that Nebuzaradan, captain of the guard, had let him go from Ramah. For he had taken him, and he had been bound with chains among all the captives of Jerusalem and Judah which were carried away captive to Babylon.
2 Høvdingen over livvakten hentet Jeremias og sa til ham: Herren din Gud har forkynt denne ulykke mot dette sted.
And the captain of the guard took Jeremiah, and said to him: “Jehovah, thy God, pronounced this evil against this place;
3 Og Herren lot det komme og gjorde som han hadde talt; for I hadde syndet mot Herren og ikke hørt på hans røst, og så hendte dette eder.
and now Jehovah hath brought it, and done according as he spake, because ye sinned against Jehovah, and obeyed not his voice; therefore hath this thing come upon you.
4 Og se, nu har jeg idag løst dig av lenkene om din hånd. Er det godt i dine øine å komme med mig til Babel, så kom, og jeg vil la mitt øie våke over dig. Men er det ikke godt i dine øine å komme med mig til Babel, så la det være! Se, hele landet ligger for dig; hvor det er godt og rett i dine øine å gå, dit kan du gå.
And now, behold, I loose thee this day from the chains upon thy hands. If it seem good to thee to come with me to Babylon, come; and I will set my eyes upon thee; but if it seem evil to thee to come with me to Babylon, forbear; behold, the whole land is before thee; whither it seemeth good and desirable for thee to go, thither go.”
5 Og da han ennu ikke vendte sig til nogen kant, sa han: Så vend tilbake til Gedalja, sønn av Akikam, Safans sønn, som Babels konge har satt over Judas byer, og bli hos ham midt iblandt folket, eller gå hvor som helst det er rett i dine øine å gå! Og høvdingen over livvakten gav ham mat og gaver og lot ham fare.
And while he was not yet gone away [[he said]]: “Go to Gedaliah, the of son Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon hath made governor over the cities of Judah, and dwell with him among the people; or go whithersoever it seemeth good to thee to go.” And the captain of the guard gave him provisions, and a present, and dismissed him.
6 Og Jeremias kom til Gedalja, Akikams sønn, i Mispa, og han blev hos ham midt iblandt folket, blandt dem som var blitt tilbake i landet.
And Jeremiah went to Gedaliah, the son of Ahikam, to Mizpah, and dwelt with him among the people that were left in the land.
7 Og da alle hærførerne, som var ute på landsbygden, de og deres menn, hørte at Babels konge hadde satt Gedalja, Akikams sønn, til å styre landet, og at han hadde overgitt til hans opsyn menn og kvinner og små barn og dem av almuen i landet som ikke var blitt bortført til Babel,
Now when all the captains of the forces which were in the fields, they and their men, heard that the king of Babylon had made Gedaliah, the son of Ahikam, governor over the land, and had committed to his charge men and women and children, of the poor of the land, of them that were not carried away captive to Babylon,
8 så kom de til Gedalja i Mispa, både Ismael, Netanjas sønn, og Johanan og Tonatan, Kareahs sønner, og Seraja, Tanhumets sønn, og sønnene til Ofai fra Netofa og Jesanja, ma'akatittens sønn, de og deres menn.
then they came to Gedaliah, to Mizpah; namely, Ishmael, the son of Nethaniah, and Johanan and Jonathan, the sons of Kareah, and Seraiah, the son of Tanhumeth, and the sons of Ephai the Netophathite, and Jezaniah, the son of the Maachathite, they and their men;
9 Og Gedalja, sønn av Akikam, Safans sønn, svor dem og deres menn en ed og sa: Frykt ikke for å tjene kaldeerne! Bli i landet og tjen Babels konge! Så skal det gå eder vel.
and Gedaliah, the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, swore to them and to their men, saying, “Fear not to serve the Chaldaeans; dwell in the land, and serve the king of Babylon, and it shall be well with you.
10 Se, jeg blir boende i Mispa for å ta imot de kaldeere som kommer til oss, men I skal samle vin og frukt og olje og legge det i eders kar, og I skal bli i eders byer, som I har tatt til eie.
As for me, behold, I will dwell at Mizpah, to stand before the Chaldaeans, who shall come to us; but ye, gather ye in wine, and summer fruits, and oil, and put them in your vessels, and dwell in your cities which ye have taken.”
11 Også alle de jøder som var i Moab og iblandt Ammons barn og i Edom, og de som var i alle andre land, hørte at Babels konge hadde latt en rest av folket bli tilbake i Juda, og at han hadde satt Gedalja, sønn av Akikam, Safans sønn, over dem.
Also when all the Jews that were in Moab, and among the children of Ammon, and in Edom, and that were in all the countries, heard that the king of Babylon had left a remnant to Judah, and that he had set over them Gedaliah, the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan,
12 Og alle disse jøder vendte tilbake fra alle de steder som de var drevet bort til, og kom til Juda land, til Gedalja i Mispa, og de samlet vin og frukt i stor mengde.
then all the Jews returned from all the places whither they were driven, and came to the land of Judah, to Gedaliah, to Mizpah, and gathered wine and summer fruits in abundance.
13 Men Johanan, Kareahs sønn, og alle hærførerne, som var ute på landsbygden, kom til Gedalja i Mispa,
And Johanan, the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were in the fields, came to Gedaliah, to Mizpah,
14 og de sa til ham: Vet du at Ba'alis, Ammons barns konge, har sendt Ismael, Netanjas sønn, for å slå dig ihjel? Men Gedalja, Akikams sønn, trodde dem ikke.
and said to him, “Dost thou know that Baalis, the king of the children of Ammon, hath sent Ishmael, the son of Nethaniah, to slay thee?” But Gedaliah, the son of Ahikam, believed them not.
15 Og Johanan, Kareahs sønn, sa i lønndom til Gedalja i Mispa: La mig gå avsted og slå Ismael, Netanjas sønn, ihjel, uten at nogen får vite det! Hvorfor skal han slå dig ihjel, og hele Juda, som har samlet sig om dig, bli spredt, og den rest som er blitt tilbake av Juda, gå til grunne?
And Johanan, the son of Kareah, spake to Gedaliah in private at Mizpah, saying, “Let me go, I pray thee, and smite Ishmael, the son of Nethaniah, and no man shall know it. Wherefore should he slay thee, that all the Jews which are gathered to thee should be scattered, and the remnant in Judah perish?”
16 Men Gedalja, Akikams sønn, sa til Johanan, Kareahs sønn: Gjør ikke det; for det er løgn det du sier om Ismael.
But Gedaliah, the son of Ahikam, said to Johanan, the son of Kareah, “Thou shalt not do this thing, for thou speakest falsely of Ishmael.”
