Esaias 31
1 Ve dem som farer ned til Egypten efter hjelp og setter sin lit til hester og stoler på vogner fordi de er mange, og på hestfolk fordi de er så tallrike, men ikke vender sine øine til Israels Hellige og ikke søker Herren!
Woe to those that go down to Egypt for help; and depend for support on horses, and trust on chariots, because they are many; and on horsemen, because they are very strong; but who turn not unto the Holy One of Israel, and seek not the Lord!
2 Men også han er vis, han lar ulykke komme, og sine ord tar han ikke tilbake; men han reiser sig mot de ondes hus og mot deres hjelp som gjør urett.
Yet he also is wise, and bringeth evil, and taketh not back his words; and riseth up against the house of evil-doers, and against the help of those that work injustice.
3 Og egypterne er mennesker og ikke Gud, og deres hester er kjøtt og ikke ånd, og Herren skal rekke ut sin hånd, og hjelperen skal snuble, og den hjulpne falle, og de skal omkomme alle sammen.
But the Egyptians are men, and not God; and their horses are flesh, and not spirit; and the Lord will stretch out his hand, and there shall stumble the helper, and he that is helped shall fall down, and they all shall perish together.
4 For så sa Herren til mig: Likesom en løve, en ungløve, knurrer over sitt rov, om en hel flokk hyrder kalles sammen mot den, og ikke skremmes av deres skrik og ikke blir redd for den støi de gjør, således skal Herren, hærskarenes Gud, fare ned for å stride mot Sions berg og mot Jerusalem-haugen.
For thus hath said the Lord unto me, Just as the lion or the young lion growleth over his prey, against whom is called forth the company of shepherds, of whose voice he is not afraid, and is not depressed because of their multitude: thus will the Lord come down, to fight on mount Zion and on its hill.
5 Som fuglene breder ut sine vinger, således skal Herren, hærskarenes Gud, verne Jerusalem, verne og frelse, gå forbi og redde.
As fluttering birds, so will the Lord of hosts shield Jerusalem; shielding and delivering; sparing and preserving.
6 Vend om til ham som I er falt fra så dypt, I Israels barn!
Turn ye unto him from whom the children of Israel have deeply revolted.
7 For på den tid skal hver av eder forkaste sine sølvguder og gullguder, som eders hender har gjort eder til å synde med.
For on that day shall every man despise his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which your own hands have made unto you for a sin.
8 Og Assur skal falle for et sverd som ikke er en manns, og et sverd som ikke er et menneskes, skal fortære ham, og han skal rømme for sverdet, og hans unge menn skal bli træler.
Then shall Asshur fall by the sword of one who is not a man; and the sword of one who is not a son of earth shall devour him; and he shall flee him from the sword, and his young men shall become tributary.
9 Og hans klippe skal rømme i redsel, og hans fyrster skal skremmes bort fra sitt banner, sier Herren, han som har sin ild i Sion og sin ovn i Jerusalem.
And his stronghold shall pass away for fear, and his princes shall be terrified because of the ensign, saith the Lord, who hath a fire in Zion, and a furnace in Jerusalem.
