2 Mosebok 17
1 Så drog hele Israels barns menighet fra ørkenen Sin i dagsreiser efter Herrens befaling; de slo leir i Refidim, og folket hadde ikke vann å drikke.
All the congregation of the children of Israel [God prevails] traveled from the wilderness of Cin [Clay], by their journeys, according to Adonai’s order, and encamped in Rephidim; but there was no water for the people to drink.
2 Da kivedes folket med Moses og sa: Gi oss vann, så vi får drikke! Moses svarte dem: Hvorfor kives I med mig? Hvorfor frister I Herren?
Therefore the people quarreled with Moses [Drawn out], and said, “Give us water to drink.” Moses [Drawn out] said to them, “Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you test Adonai?”
3 Men folket tørstet efter vann og knurret mot Moses og sa: Hvorfor har du ført oss op fra Egypten for å la oss og våre barn og vår buskap dø av tørst?
The people were thirsty for water there; and the people murmured against Moses [Drawn out], and said, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt [Abode of slavery], to kill us, our children, and our livestock with thirst?”
4 Da ropte Moses til Herren og sa: Hvad skal jeg gjøre med dette folk? Det er ikke langt fra at de stener mig!
Moses [Drawn out] cried to Adonai, saying, “What shall I do with these people? They are almost ready to stone me.”
5 Og Herren sa til Moses: Gå frem foran folket og ta med dig nogen av Israels eldste, og din stav som du slo i elven med, ta den i hånden og gå!
Adonai said to Moses [Drawn out], “Walk on before the people, and take the elders of Israel [God prevails] with you, and take the rod in your hand with which you struck the Nile, and go.
6 Se, jeg vil stå der foran dig på klippen ved Horeb, og du skal slå på klippen, og det skal flyte vann ut av den, så folket får drikke. Og Moses gjorde således så Israels eldste så på det.
Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock in Horeb [Desert]. You shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it, that the people may drink.” Moses [Drawn out] did so in the sight of the elders of Israel [God prevails].
7 Og han kalte stedet Massa og Meriba, fordi Israels barn kivedes med ham, og fordi de fristet Herren og sa: Er Herren iblandt oss eller ikke?
He called the name of the place Massah [Testing], and Meribah [Quarreling], because the children of Israel [God prevails] quarreled, and because they tested Adonai, saying, “Is Adonai among us, or not?”
8 Så kom Amalek og stred med Israel i Refidim.
Then Amalek [Man who licks up] came and fought with Israel [God prevails] in Rephidim.
9 Da sa Moses til Josva: Velg oss ut mannskap, dra så avsted og strid mot Amalek! Imorgen vil jeg stå øverst på haugen med Guds stav i min hånd.
Moses [Drawn out] said to Joshua [Yah Salvation], “Choose men for us, and go out, fight with Amalek [Man who licks up]. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with God’s rod in my hand.”
10 Og Josva gjorde som Moses hadde sagt ham, og stred mot Amalek; og Moses, Aron og Hur steg op øverst på haugen.
So Joshua [Yah Salvation] did as Moses [Drawn out] had told him, and fought with Amalek [Man who licks up]; and Moses [Drawn out], Aaron [Light-bringer], and Hur went up to the top of the hill.
11 Da gikk det så at så lenge Moses holdt sin hånd opløftet, hadde Israel overtaket; men når han lot sin hånd synke, da fikk Amalek overtaket.
When Moses [Drawn out] held up his hand, Israel [God prevails] prevailed. When he let down his hand, Amalek [Man who licks up] prevailed.
12 Men da Moses' hender blev tunge, tok de en sten og la under ham, og han satte sig på den; og Aron og Hur støttet hans hender, den ene på den ene side og den andre på den andre side; så holdt hans hender sig støe helt til solen gikk ned.
But Moses [Drawn out]’ hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat on it. Aaron [Light-bringer] and Hur held up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side. His hands were steady until sunset.
13 Og Josva hugg Amalek og hans folk ned med sverdets egg.
Joshua [Yah Salvation] defeated Amalek [Man who licks up] and his people with the edge of the sword.
14 Og Herren sa til Moses: Skriv dette op i en bok, så I kommer det i hu, og prent det i Josvas ører! For jeg vil aldeles utslette minnet om Amalek over hele jorden.
Adonai said to Moses [Drawn out], “Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua [Yah Salvation]: that I will utterly blot out the memory of Amalek [Man who licks up] from under the sky.”
15 Så bygget Moses et alter og kalte det: Herren er mitt banner.
Moses [Drawn out] built an altar, and called its name Adonai our Banner.
16 Og han sa: En hånd er utrakt fra Herrens trone! Herren skal stride mot Amalek fra slekt til slekt.
He said, “Yah has sworn: ‘Adonai will have war with Amalek [Man who licks up] from generation to generation.’”
