5 Mosebok 31
1 Og Moses gikk frem og talte disse ord til hele Israel -
And Moses went, and spoke all these words to all Israel,
2 han sa til dem: Jeg er idag hundre og tyve år gammel, jeg kan ikke mere gå ut og inn som før, og Herren har sagt til mig: Du skal ikke komme over Jordan her.
And he said to them: I am this day a hundred and twenty years old, I can no longer go out and come in, especially as the Lord also hath said to me: O Thou shalt not pass over this Jordan.
3 Herren din Gud vil selv dra frem foran dig, han vil utrydde disse folk for dig, så du kan ta deres land i eie; Josva han skal dra frem foran dig, således som Herren har sagt.
The Lord thy God then will pass over before thee: he will destroy all these nations in thy sight, and thou shalt possess them: and this Josue shall go over before thee, as the Lord hath spoken.
4 Og Herren skal gjøre med dem som han gjorde med Sihon og Og, amorittenes konger, dengang han gjorde ende på dem og ødela deres land.
And the Lord shall do to them as he did to Sehon and Og the kings of the Amorrhites, and to their land, and shall destroy them.
5 Og Herren skal gi dem i eders vold; og I skal gjøre med dem aldeles som jeg har befalt eder.
Therefore when the Lord shall have delivered these also to you, you shall do in like manner to them as I have commanded you,
6 Vær frimodige og sterke, frykt ikke og reddes ikke for dem! For Herren din Gud går selv med dig, han skal ikke slippe dig og ikke forlate dig.
Do manfully and be of good heart: fear not, nor be ye dismayed at their sight: for the Lord thy God he himself is thy leader, and will not leave thee nor forsake thee.
7 Og Moses kalte Josva til sig og sa til ham så hele Israel hørte det: Vær frimodig og sterk! For du skal dra inn med dette folk i det land som Herren tilsvor deres fedre å ville gi dem; og du skal skifte det ut til arv mellem dem.
And Moses called Josue, and said to him before all Israel: Take courage, and be valiant: for thou shalt bring this people into the land which the Lord swore he would give to their fathers, and thou shalt divide it by lot.
8 Og Herren, han som drar foran dig, han skal være med dig - han skal ikke slippe dig og ikke forlate dig; du skal ikke frykte og ikke reddes.
And the Lord who is your leader, he himself will be with thee: he will not leave thee, nor forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.
9 Så skrev Moses op denne lov og overgav den til prestene, Levis sønner, som bar Herrens pakts-ark, og til alle de eldste i Israel.
And Moses wrote this law, and delivered it to the priests the sons of Levi, who carried the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and to all the ancients of Israel.
10 Og Moses bød dem og sa: Hvert syvende år, i eftergivelsesåret, på løvsalenes høitid,
And he commanded them, saying: After seven years, in the year of remission, in the feast of tabernacles,
11 når hele Israel møter frem for å vise sig for Herrens, din Guds åsyn på det sted han utvelger, da skal du lese op denne lov for hele Israel så de hører på det.
When all Israel come together, to appear in the sight of the Lord thy God in the place which the Lord shall choose, thou shalt read the words of this law before all Israel, in their hearing,
12 Kall folket sammen, mennene og kvinnene og barna og de fremmede som bor i dine byer, så de kan høre det og lære å frykte Herren eders Gud og akte vel på å holde alle ordene i denne lov,
And the people being all assembled together, both men and women, children and strangers, that are within thy gates: that hearing they may learn, and fear the Lord your God, and keep, and fulfill all the words of this law:
13 og deres barn som ikke kjenner den, kan få høre den og lære å frykte Herren eders Gud alle de dager I lever i det land som I nu drar til over Jordan og skal ta i eie.
That their children also, who now are ignorant, may hear, and fear the Lord their God, all the days that they lire in the land whither you are going over the Jordan to possess it.
14 Og Herren sa til Moses: Se, nu lider det mot den dag du skal dø; kall på Josva og still eder frem ved sammenkomstens telt, forat jeg kan gi ham mine befalinger. Og Moses og Josva gikk frem og stilte sig ved sammenkomstens telt.
And the Lord said to Moses: Behold the days of thy death are nigh: call Josue, and stand ye in the tabernacle of the testimony, that I may give him a charge. So Moses and Josue went and stood in the tabernacle of the testimony:
15 Da åpenbarte Herren sig ved teltet i en skystøtte, og skystøtten stod ved inngangen til teltet.
And the Lord appeared there in the pillar of a cloud, which stood in the entry of the tabernacle.
16 Og Herren sa til Moses: Når du hviler hos dine fedre, da vil dette folk komme til å holde sig med de fremmede guder i det land de kommer inn i, og de vil forlate mig og bryte min pakt, som jeg har gjort med dem.
And the Lord said to Moses: Behold thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, and this people rising up will go a fornicating after strange gods in the land, to which it goeth in to dwell: there will they forsake me, and will make void the covenant, which I have made with them,
17 Den dag skal min vrede optendes mot dem, og jeg vil forlate dem og skjule mitt åsyn for dem, så de går til grunne, og mangfoldige ulykker og trengsler kommer over dem. Og de skal si på den dag: Er det ikke fordi min Gud ikke er med mig at disse ulykker er kommet over mig?
And my wrath shall be kindled against them in that day: and I will forsake them, and will hide my face from them, and they shall be devoured: all evils and afflictions shall find them, so that they shall say in that day: In truth it is because God is not with me, that these evils have found me.
18 Men jeg vil på den dag skjule mitt åsyn for dem, fordi de har gjort så meget ondt og vendt sig til andre guder.
But I will hide, and cover my face in that day, for all the evils which they have done, because they have followed strange gods.
19 Så skriv nu op for eder denne sang og lær Israels barn den, legg den i deres munn, så den kan være et vidne for mig mot Israels barn.
Now therefore write you this canticle, and teach the children of Israel: that they may know it by heart, and sing it by mouth, and this song may be unto me for a testimony among the children of Israel.
20 For jeg vil føre dem inn i det land som jeg har tilsvoret deres fedre, et land som flyter med melk og honning, og når de har ett og er blitt mette og fete, da skal de vende sig til andre guder og dyrke dem og forakte mig og bryte min pakt.
For I will bring them into the land, for which I swore to their fathers, that floweth with milk and honey. And when they have eaten, and are full and fat, they will turn away after strange gods, and will serve them: and will despise me, and make void my covenant.
21 Når da mange ulykker og trengsler kommer over dem, da skal denne sang lyde for dem som et vidne - den skal ikke glemmes hos dem som kommer efter, og ikke dø i deres munn. For jeg kjenner de tanker som de går med allerede nu, før jeg fører dem inn i det land jeg har tilsvoret dem.
And after many evils and afflictions shall have come upon them, this canticle shall answer them for a testimony, which no oblivion shall take away out of the mouth of their seed. For I know their thoughts, and what they are about to do this day, before that I bring them into the land which I have promised them.
22 Samme dag skrev Moses op denne sang og lærte Israels barn den.
Moses therefore wrote the canticle and taught it to the children of Israel.
23 Og han bød Josva, Nuns sønn, og sa: Vær frimodig og sterk! For du skal føre Israels barn inn i det land jeg har tilsvoret dem, og jeg vil være med dig.
And the Lord commanded Josue the son of Nun, and said: Take courage, and be valiant: for thou shalt bring the children of Israel into the land which I have promised, and I will be with thee.
24 Da Moses var ferdig med å skrive denne lovs ord i en bok helt til enden,
Therefore after Moses had wrote the words of this law in a volume, and finished it:
25 bød han levittene, som bar Herrens pakts-ark, og sa:
He commanded the Levites, who carried the ark of the covenant of the Lord. saying:
26 Ta denne lovens bok og legg den ved siden av Herrens, eders Guds pakts-ark! Der skal den ligge som et vidne mot dig.
Take this book, and put it in the side of the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God: that it may be there for a testimony against thee.
27 For jeg kjenner din gjenstridighet og din stive nakke; se, ennu idag mens jeg lever og er iblandt eder, har I vært gjenstridige mot Herren; hvor meget mere da efter min død!
For I know thy obstinacy, and thy most stiff neck, While I am yet living, and going in with you, you have always been rebellious against the Lord: how much more when I shall be dead?
28 Kall nu sammen til mig alle de eldste i eders stammer og eders tilsynsmenn, så vil jeg tale disse ord for dem og ta himmelen og jorden til vidne mot dem.
Gather unto me all the ancients of your tribes, and your doctors, and I will speak these words in their hearing, and will call heaven and earth to witness against them.
29 For jeg vet at efter min død vil I forderve eders vei og vike av fra den vei jeg har befalt eder å vandre, og ulykken skal komme over eder i de siste dager, fordi I gjør det som er ondt i Herrens øine, og egger ham til vrede med eders henders verk.
For I know that, after my death, you will do wickedly, and will quickly turn aside from the way that I have commanded you: and evils shall come upon you in the latter times, when you shall do evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke him by the works of your hands.
30 Derefter fremsa Moses denne sang, fra begynnelsen til enden, for hele Israels menighet.
Moses therefore spoke, in the hearing of the whole assembly of Israel, the words of this canticle, and finished it even to the end,
