2 Samuel 8

1 Derefter slo David filistrene og ydmyket dem, og David tok hovedstadens tømmer ut av filistrenes hender.

And it came to pass, after this, that David smote the Philistines, and subdued them, —and David took the bridle of the metropolis, out of the hand of the Philistines.

2 Han slo også moabittene og målte dem med en snor - han lot dem legge sig ned på jorden og målte så to snorlengder med folk som skulde drepes, og en full snorlengde med folk som skulde få leve; og moabittene blev Davids tjenere og måtte svare ham skatt.

And he smote Moab, and measured them with the line casting, them down to the ground, and be measured with two lines to put to death, and with one full line to keep alive, —so the Moabites became David’s, as servants, bringing gifts.

3 Likeledes slo David Hadadeser, sønn av Rehob, kongen i Soba, da han drog avsted for å gjenvinne sin makt ved elven.

And David smote Hadadezer son of Rehob, king of Zobah, —when he went to lay his hand on the River Euphrates.

4 Og David tok fra ham tusen og syv hundre hestfolk og tyve tusen mann fotfolk, og David lot skjære fotsenene over på alle vognhestene; bare hundre vognhester sparte han.

And David captured from him, a thousand and seven hundred horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen, —and David destroyed all the chariots, but reserved of them, a hundred chariots.

5 Syrerne fra Damaskus kom for å hjelpe Hadadeser, kongen i Soba; men David slo to og tyve tusen mann av dem.

And, when the Syrians of Damascus came to help Hadadezer, king of Zobah, David smote of the Syrians, twenty-two thousand men.

6 Og David la krigsmannskap i det damaskenske Syria, og syrerne blev Davids tjenere og måtte svare ham skatt. Således hjalp Herren David overalt hvor han drog frem.

Then David put garrisons in Syria of Damascus, and the Syrians became David’s, as servants bringing gifts, —and so Yahweh gave victory unto David, whithersoever he went.

7 David tok de gullskjold som Hadadesers tjenere hadde båret, og førte dem til Jerusalem.

And David took the shields of gold which had come to the servants of Hadadezer, —and brought them to Jerusalem;

8 Og fra Hadadesers byer Betah og Berotai tok kong David en stor mengde kobber.

also, from Betah and from Berothai, cities of Hadadezer, did King David take bronze, exceeding much.

9 Da To'i, kongen i Hamat, hørte at David hadde slått hele Hadadesers hær,

And, when Tou king of Hamath heard that David had smitten all the forces of Hadadezer,

10 sendte han sin sønn Joram til kong David for å hilse på ham og ønske ham til lykke, fordi han hadde stridt mot Hadadeser og slått ham; for Hadadeser hadde jevnlig ført krig mot To'i. Og han hadde med sig sølvkar og gullkar og kobberkar.

then Tou sent Hadoram his son unto King David, to ask after his welfare, and to bless him, because he had fought against Hadadezer and had smitten him, for Hadadezer had had wars with Tou, —and, in his hand, were vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and vessels of bronze.

11 Også dem helliget kong David til Herren sammen med det sølv og gull han hadde helliget av hærfanget fra alle de hedningefolk han hadde lagt under sig:

Them also, did King David hallow unto Yahweh, —with the silver and the gold which he had hallowed from all the nations which he had subdued:

12 fra Syria og fra Moab og fra Ammons barn og fra filistrene og fra amalekittene, og av hærfanget fra Hadadeser, sønn av Rehob, kongen i Soba.

from Syria, and from Moab, and from the sons of Ammon, and from the Philistines, and from Amalek, —and from the spoil of Hadadezer son of Rehob, king of Zobah.

13 Og da David vendte tilbake efter å ha slått syrerne, vant han sig et navn i Salt-dalen ved å slå atten tusen mann.

And David made a name, when he returned from his smiting of the Syrians in the valley of salt, —eighteen thousand.

14 Og han la krigsmannskap i Edom; i hele Edom la han krigsmannskap, og alle edomittene blev Davids tjenere. Således hjalp Herren David overalt hvor han drog frem.

And he put, in Edom, garrisons, throughout all Edom, put be garrisons, and so it was that all Edom became servants unto David, —and Yahweh gave victory unto David, whithersoever he went.

15 Så regjerte nu David over hele Israel, og David gjorde rett og rettferdighet mot hele sitt folk.

And David reigned over all Israel, —and so it was that David used to execute justice and righteousness for all his people;

16 Joab, sønn av Seruja, var høvding over hæren, og Josafat, sønn av Akilud, historieskriver;

and, Joab, son of Zeruiah, was over the army, —and, Jehoshaphat, son of Ahilud, was remembrancer.

17 Sadok, sønn av Akitub, og Akimelek, sønn av Abjatar, var prester, og Seraja statsskriver;

And, Zadok, son of Ahitub, and Abimelech, son of Abiathar, were priests, —and, Seraiah, was scribe;

18 Benaja, Jojadas sønn, var høvding over livvakten, og Davids sønner var prester.

and, Benaiah, son of Jehoiadah, was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites, —and, the sons of David, became, chief rulers.
