2 Samuel 4
1 Da Sauls sønn hørte at Abner var død i Hebron, falt han rent sammen, og hele Israel blev forferdet.
When Ishbosheth, Saul's son, heard that Abner was dead in Hebron, his hands became weak, and all Israel was troubled.
2 Hos Sauls sønn var der to menn som var høvedsmenn for streif-flokker; den ene hette Ba'ana og den andre Rekab; de var sønner av Rimmon fra Be'erot og hørte til Benjamins barn. For Be'erot regnedes også til Benjamin -
Now Saul's son had two men who were captains of groups of soldiers. The name of one was Baanah and the other Recab, sons of Rimmon the Beerothite of the people of Benjamin (for Beeroth is also considered part of Benjamin,

4 Jonatan, Sauls sønn, hadde en sønn som var lam i begge føtter; han var fem år gammel da tidenden om Saul og Jonatan kom fra Jisre'el, og den kvinne som passet ham, tok ham og flyktet; men idet hun skyndte sig avsted, falt han ned og blev lam. Hans navn var Mefiboset.
Now Jonathan, Saul's son, had a son who was crippled in his feet. He was five years old when the news about Saul and Jonathan came from Jezreel. His nurse picked him up to flee. But as she was running, Jonathan's son fell and became lame. His name was Mephibosheth.
5 Be'erotitten Rimmons sønner, Rekab og Ba'ana, tok ut og kom på det heteste av dagen til Isbosets hus, mens han hvilte middag.
So the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, Recab and Baanah, traveled during the heat of the day to the house of Ishbosheth, as he was resting at noon.
6 De lot som de skulde hente hvete, og kom således helt inn i huset og stakk ham så i underlivet. Derefter slapp Rekab og hans bror Ba'ana bort.
The woman guarding the door had fallen asleep while sifting wheat, and Recab and Baanah walked in quietly and passed her.
7 De kom inn i huset mens han lå på sin seng i sitt sovekammer, og stakk ham ihjel og hugg hodet av ham; så tok de hans hode og gikk hele natten gjennem ødemarken.
So after they entered the house, they attacked him and killed him as he was lying on his bed in his room. Then they cut off his head and carried it away, traveling on the road all night to the Arabah.
8 Og de kom med Isbosets hode til David i Hebron og sa til kongen: Se, her er hodet av Isboset, sønn til Saul, din fiende som stod dig efter livet; således har Herren på denne dag gitt min herre kongen hevn over Saul og hans ætt.
They brought the head of Ishbosheth to David at Hebron, and they said to the king, “Look, this is the head of Ishbosheth son of Saul, your enemy, who sought your life. Today Yahweh has avenged our master the king against Saul and his descendants.”
9 Men David svarte Rekab og hans bror Ba'ana, be'erotitten Rimmons sønner, og sa til dem: Så sant Herren lever, han som har utfridd mig av all trengsel:
David answered Recab and Baanah his brother, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite; he said to them, “As Yahweh lives, who delivered my life from every trouble,
10 Den som kom til mig med tidende om at Saul var død, og som selv mente at han kom med en god tidende, ham grep jeg og lot ham drepe i Siklag - ham som jeg skulde ha gitt lønn for god tidende,
when someone told me, 'Look, Saul is dead,' thinking he was bringing good news, I seized him and killed him at Ziklag. That was the reward I gave him for his news.
11 hvor meget mere nu, da ugudelige menn har myrdet en rettferdig mann i hans hus og på hans leie - skulde jeg ikke nu kreve hans blod av eders hånd og utrydde eder av landet?
How much more, when wicked men have killed an innocent person in his own house on his bed, should I not now require his blood from your hand, and remove you from the earth?”
12 Så bød David sine folk, og de slo dem ihjel og hugg hendene og føttene av dem og hengte dem op ved dammen i Hebron; men Isbosets hode tok de og begravde i Abners grav i Hebron.
Then David gave orders to the young men, and they killed them and cut off their hands and feet and hung them up beside the pool at Hebron. But they took the head of Ishbosheth and buried it in the grave of Abner in Hebron.
