2 Samuel 15

1 Nogen tid efter la Absalom sig til vogn og hester og femti mann som løp foran ham.

And it cometh to pass afterwards, that Absalom prepareth for himself a chariot, and horses, and fifty men are running before him;

2 Og Absalom pleide å stå tidlig op og stille sig ved siden av veien til porten; og så ofte det kom en mann som hadde en sak han vilde føre frem for kongen og få dom i, kalte Absalom på ham og spurte: Hvilken by er du fra? Når han så svarte: Din tjener er fra den og den av Israels stammer,

and Absalom hath risen early, and stood by the side of the way of the gate, and it cometh to pass, every man who hath a pleading to come unto the king for judgment, that Absalom calleth unto him, and saith, 'Of what city [art] thou?' and he saith, 'Of one of the tribes of Israel [is] thy servant.'

3 sa Absalom til ham: Din sak er god og rett; men hos kongen er det ingen som hører på dig.

And Absalom saith unto him, 'See, thy matters [are] good and straightforward — and there is none hearkening to thee from the king.'

4 Så sa Absalom: Bare de vilde sette mig til dommer i landet! Da skulde hver mann som hadde en trette eller sak, komme til mig, og jeg skulde hjelpe ham til sin rett.

And Absalom saith, 'Who doth make me a judge in the land, that unto me doth come every man who hath a plea and judgment? — then I have declared him righteous.'

5 Og når nogen gikk frem og vilde bøie sig for ham, rakte han ut sin hånd og tok fatt i ham og kysset ham.

And it hath come to pass, in the drawing nearing of any one to bow himself to him, that he hath put forth his hand, and laid hold on him, and given a kiss to him;

6 Således gjorde Absalom med hele Israel når de kom til kongen for å få dom, og Absalom stjal Israels menns hjerte.

and Absalom doth according to this thing to all Israel who come in for judgment unto the king, and Absalom stealeth the heart of the men of Israel.

7 Da det nu var gått fire år, sa Absalom til kongen: La mig få dra til Hebron og innfri det løfte jeg har gjort Herren!

And it cometh to pass, at the end of forty years, that Absalom saith unto the king, 'Let me go, I pray thee, and I complete my vow, that I vowed to Jehovah in Hebron,

8 For din tjener gjorde et løfte dengang jeg bodde i Gesur i Syria, og sa: Fører Herren mig tilbake igjen til Jerusalem, så vil jeg ofre til Herren.

for a vow hath thy servant vowed in my dwelling in Geshur, in Aram, saying, If Jehovah doth certainly bring me back to Jerusalem, then I have served Jehovah.'

9 Kongen svarte: Gå i fred! Så gjorde han sig rede og drog til Hebron.

And the king saith to him, 'Go in peace;' and he riseth and goeth to Hebron,

10 Og Absalom sendte speidere omkring i alle Israels stammer og sa: Når I hører basunen lyde, så skal I si: Absalom er blitt konge i Hebron.

and Absalom sendeth spies through all the tribes of Israel, saying, 'At your hearing the voice of the trumpet, then ye have said, Absalom hath reigned in Hebron.'

11 Sammen med Absalom gikk to hundre menn fra Jerusalem, som var innbudt, og som gikk med i all troskyldighet og ikke visste av nogen ting.

And with Absalom have gone two hundred men, out of Jerusalem, invited ones, and they are going in their simplicity, and have not known anything;

12 Og mens Absalom bar frem offerne, hentet han gilonitten Akitofel, Davids rådgiver, fra hans by Gilo. Og sammensvergelsen blev sterk, og det samlet sig flere og flere folk hos Absalom.

and Absalom sendeth Ahithophel the Gilonite, a counsellor of David, out of his city, out of Gilo, in his sacrificing sacrifices; and the conspiracy is strong, and the people are going and increasing with Absalom.

13 Så kom det nogen med bud til David og sa: Hver manns hjerte i Israel henger ved Absalom.

And he who is declaring tidings cometh in unto David, saying, 'The heart of the men of Israel hath been after Absalom.'

14 Da sa David til alle sine menn som var hos ham i Jerusalem: Kom, la oss flykte! Ellers kan vi ikke berge oss for Absalom. Skynd eder avsted, så ikke han skal skynde sig og nå oss og føre ulykke over oss og slå byen med sverdets egg.

And David saith to all his servants who [are] with him in Jerusalem, 'Rise, and we flee, for we have no escape from the face of Absalom; haste to go, lest he hasten, and have overtaken us, and forced on us evil, and smitten the city by the mouth of the sword.'

15 Kongens tjenere svarte: Alt hvad du vil, herre konge, er dine tjenere rede til å gjøre.

And the servants of the king say unto the king, 'According to all that my lord the king chooseth — lo, thy servants [do].'

16 Så tok kongen ut, og hele hans hus fulgte ham; bare ti medhustruer lot kongen bli tilbake for å ta vare på huset.

And the king goeth out, and all his household at his feet, and the king leaveth ten women — concubines — to keep the house.

17 Så tok da kongen ut, og alt folket fulgte ham, og de stanset ved det siste hus.

And the king goeth out, and all the people at his feet, and they stand still at the farthest off house.

18 Og alle hans menn og hele livvakten drog frem ved siden av ham, og alle gittittene, seks hundre mann som hadde fulgt ham fra Gat, drog frem foran kongen.

And all his servants are passing on at his side, and all the Cherethite, and all the Pelethite, and all the Gittites, six hundred men who came at his feet from Gath, are passing on at the front of the king.

19 Da sa kongen til gittitten Ittai: Hvorfor går du og med oss? Vend tilbake og bli hos kongen! For du er en fremmed og tilmed bortført fra ditt hjemsted.

And the king saith unto Ittai the Gittite, 'Why dost thou go — thou also — with us? turn back — and abide with the king, for thou [art] a stranger, and also an exile thou — to thy place.

20 Igår kom du, og idag skulde jeg la dig vanke om med oss, jeg som ikke vet hvor min vei kan falle. Vend tilbake og før dine brødre tilbake med dig, og Guds miskunnhet og trofasthet være med eder!

Yesterday [is] thy coming in, and to-day I move thee to go with us, and I am going on that which I am going! — turn back, and take back thy brethren with thee, — kindness and truth.'

21 Men Ittai svarte kongen og sa: Så sant Herren lever, og så sant min herre kongen lever: Der hvor min herre kongen er, enten det bærer til død eller til liv, der og intet annet sted vil din tjener være.

And Ittai answereth the king and saith, 'Jehovah liveth, and my lord the king liveth, surely in the place where my lord the king is — if for death, if for life, surely there is thy servant.'

22 Da sa David til Ittai: Vel, så dra med oss! Så drog gittitten Ittai frem med alle sine menn og alle de barn han hadde med sig.

And David saith unto Ittai, 'Go and pass over;' and Ittai the Gittite passeth over, and all his men, and all the infants who [are] with him.

23 Og hele landet gråt høit, da alt folket drog frem, og kongen gikk over bekken Kidron, og alt folket gikk og over og tok veien bortimot ørkenen.

And all the land are weeping — a great voice, and all the people are passing over; and the king is passing over through the brook Kidron, and all the people are passing over on the front of the way of the wilderness;

24 Da kom også Sadok med alle levittene; de bar Guds pakts-ark, og de satte Guds ark ned, og på samme tid gikk Abjatar op, inntil alt folket hadde draget ut av byen.

and lo, also Zadok, and all the Levites with him, bearing the ark of the covenant of God, and they make the ark of God firm, and Abiathar goeth up, till the completion of all the people to pass over out of the city.

25 Da sa kongen til Sadok: Før Guds ark tilbake til byen! Finner jeg nåde for Herrens øine, så fører han mig tilbake og lar mig se den og dens bolig;

And the king saith to Zadok, 'Take back the ark of God to the city; if I find grace in the eyes of Jehovah, then He hath brought me back, and shewn me it and His habitation;

26 men dersom han sier således: Jeg har ikke velbehag i dig - så er jeg her; han får gjøre med mig som han synes!

and if thus He say, I have not delighted in thee; here [am] I, He doth to me as [is] good in His eyes.'

27 Og kongen sa til presten Sadok: Forstår du mig? Vend tilbake til byen i fred, og din sønn Akima'as og Abjatars sønn Jonatan - begge eders sønner - skal være med eder!

And the king saith unto Zadok the priest, 'Art thou a seer? turn back to the city in peace, and Ahimaaz thy son, and Jonathan son of Abiathar, your two sons with you;

28 Husk på at jeg vil dryge på moene i ørkenen inntil det kommer et ord fra eder med budskap til mig.

see ye, I am tarrying in the plains of the wilderness till the coming in of a word from you to declare to me.'

29 Så førte Sadok og Abjatar Guds ark tilbake til Jerusalem, og de blev der.

And Zadok taketh back — and Abiathar — the ark of God to Jerusalem, and they abide there.

30 Men David gikk gråtende opefter Oljeberget med tilhyllet hode og barfotet, og alt folket som var med ham, hadde og tilhyllet sine hoder og gikk gråtende opover.

And David is going up in the ascent of the olives, going up and weeping, and he hath the head covered, and he is going barefooted, and all the people who [are] with him have covered each his head, and have gone up, going up and weeping;

31 Da David fikk bud om at Akitofel var blandt de sammensvorne hos Absalom, sa han: Gjør Akitofels råd til dårskap, Herre!

and David declared, saying, 'Ahithophel [is] among the conspirators with Absalom;' and David saith, 'Make foolish, I pray Thee, the counsel of Ahithophel, O Jehovah.'

32 Da nu David kom til toppen, hvor han vilde tilbede Gud, fikk han se arkitten Husai som kom ham i møte med sønderrevet kjortel og jord på sitt hode.

And it cometh to pass, David hath come unto the top, where he boweth himself to God, and lo, to meet him [is] Hushai the Archite, his coat rent, and earth on his head;

33 David sa til ham: Dersom du drar videre med mig, vil du bare bli til byrde for mig;

and David saith to him, 'If thou hast passed on with me then thou hast been on me for a burden,

34 men dersom du vender tilbake til byen og sier til Absalom: Jeg vil være din tjener, konge! Jeg har før vært din fars tjener, men nu vil jeg være din tjener - så vil du gjøre Akitofels råd til intet for mig.

and if to the city thou dost turn back, and hast said to Absalom, Thy servant I am, O king; servant of thy father I [am] also hitherto, and now, I [am] also thy servant; then thou hast made void for me the counsel of Ahithophel;

35 Der har du jo og prestene Sadok og Abjatar hos dig. Alt du får høre fra kongens hus, skal du melde prestene Sadok og Abjatar.

and are there not with thee there Zadok and Abiathar the priests? and it hath been, the whole of the matter that thou hearest from the house of the king thou dost declare to Zadok and to Abiathar the priests.

36 Begge deres sønner, Akima'as, Sadoks sønn, og Jonatan, Abjatars sønn, er der hos dem; med dem skal I sende mig bud om alt det I får høre.

Lo, there with them [are] their two sons, Ahimaaz to Zadok, and Jonathan to Abiathar, and ye have sent by their hand unto me anything that ye hear.'

37 Så kom da Husai, Davids venn, til byen, og på samme tid kom også Absalom til Jerusalem.

And Hushai, David's friend, cometh in to the city, and Absalom cometh in to Jerusalem.
