1 Profeten Elisa kalte på en av profetenes disipler og sa til ham: Omgjord dine lender og ta denne oljekrukke i din hånd og gå til Ramot i Gilead!
Then Elisha the Prophet called one of ye children of the Prophets, and sayde vnto him, Gird thy loynes and take this boxe of oyle in thine hand and get thee to Ramoth Gilead.
2 Når du kommer dit, skal du opsøke Jehu, sønn av Nimsis sønn Josafat, og gå så inn og be ham stå op der han sitter blandt sine brødre, og før ham inn i det innerste kammer.
And when thou commest thither, looke where is Iehu ye sonne of Iehoshaphat, the sonne of Nimshi, and go, and make him arise vp from among his brethren, and leade him to a secret chamber.
3 Ta så oljekrukken og hell den ut over hans hode og si: Så sier Herren: Jeg har salvet dig til konge over Israel! Så skal du åpne døren og flykte og ikke dryge.
Then take the boxe of oyle and powre it on his head, and say, Thus sayth the Lord, I haue anointed thee for King ouer Israel. then open the doore, and flee without any tarying.
4 Så gikk den unge mann - den unge profet - til Ramot i Gilead.
So the seruat of ye Prophet gate him to Ramoth Gilead.
5 Og da han kom dit, så han hærens høvedsmenn sitte der; og han sa: Jeg har noget å si dig, høvedsmann! Da sa Jehu: Hvem av alle oss her? Han svarte: Dig, høvedsmann!
And when he came in, behold, the captaines of the armie were sitting. And he sayde, I haue a message to thee, O captaine. And Iehu sayd, Vnto which of all vs? And he answered, To thee, O captaine.
6 Da stod han op og gikk inn i huset, og han helte oljen ut over hans hode og sa til ham: Så sier Herren, Israels Gud: Jeg har salvet dig til konge over Herrens folk, over Israel.
And he arose, and went into the house, and he powred the oyle on his head and sayde vnto him, Thus sayth the Lord God of Israel, I haue anointed thee for King ouer the people of the Lord, euen ouer Israel.
7 Du skal gjøre ende på din herre Akabs hus, for jeg vil hevne mine tjenere profetenes blod og alle Herrens tjeneres blod på Jesabel.
And thou shalt smite the house of Ahab thy master, that I may auenge the blood of my seruants the Prophets, and the blood of al the seruants of the Lord of the hand of Iezebel.
8 Og hele Akabs hus skal gå til grunne; jeg vil utrydde alle menn av Akabs ætt, både myndige og umyndige, i Israel.
For the whole house of Ahab shalbe destroied: and I will cut off from Ahab, him that maketh water against the wall, as well him that is shut vp, as him that is left in Israel.
9 Jeg vil gjøre med Akabs hus som med Jeroboams, Nebats sønns hus, og med Baesas, Akias sønns hus.
And I will make the house of Ahab like the house of Ieroboam the sonne of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the sonne of Ahiiah.
10 Og Jesabel skal hundene fortære på Jisre'els mark, og ingen skal begrave henne. Så åpnet han døren og flyktet.
And the dogges shall eate Iezebel in the fielde of Izreel, and there shalbe none to burie her. And he opened the doore, and fled.
11 Da Jehu kom ut til sin herres menn, spurte de ham: Står alt vel til? Hvorfor kom denne gale mann til dig? Han svarte: I kjenner jo mannen og hans underlige tanker.
Then Iehu came out to the seruants of his lord. And one sayd vnto him, Is all well? wherefore came this mad fellowe to thee? And hee sayde vnto them, Ye knowe the man, and what his talke was.
12 Men de sa: Du taler ikke sant; si oss hvad det er! Da sa han: Så og så talte han til mig og sa: Så sier Herren: Jeg har salvet dig til konge over Israel.
And they sayde, It is false, tell vs it nowe. Then he sayd, Thus and thus spake he to me, saying, Thus saieth the Lord, I haue anointed thee for King ouer Israel.
13 Da skyndte de sig og tok hver sin kappe og la dem under ham på trappetrinene; og de støtte i basunen og ropte: Jehu er konge!
Then they made haste, and tooke euerie man his garment, and put it vnder him on the top of the staires, and blewe the trumpet, saying, Iehu is King.
14 Således fikk Jehu, sønn av Nimsis sønn Josafat, en sammensvergelse i stand mot Joram - Joram hadde med hele Israel ligget på vakt ved Ramot i Gilead mot kongen i Syria Hasael;
So Iehu ye sonne of Iehoshaphat the sonne of Nimshi conspired against Ioram: (Now Ioram kept Ramoth Gilead, he and all Israel, because of Hazael King of Aram.
15 men selv var kong Joram vendt tilbake for å la sig læge i Jisre'el for de sår syrerne hadde slått ham da han stred mot Syrias konge Hasael. - Og Jehu sa: Hvis I så synes, så la ingen rømme og slippe ut av byen, så han kunde gå avsted og kunngjøre det i Jisre'el!
And King Ioram returned to bee healed in Izreel of the woundes, which the Aramites had giuen him, when hee fought with Hazael King of Aram) and Iehu sayde, If it be your mindes, let no man depart and escape out of the citie, to goe and tell in Izreel.
16 Så steg Jehu op i sin vogn og drog til Jisre'el, for Joram lå syk der; og Judas konge Akasja hadde draget der ned for å se til Joram.
So Iehu gate vp into a charet, and went to Izreel: for Ioram lay there, and Ahaziah King of Iudah was come downe to see Ioram.
17 Vekteren som stod på tårnet i Jisre'el, ropte da han så Jehu komme med sin flokk: Jeg ser en flokk som kommer. Da sa Joram: Ta og send en rytter for å møte dem og spørre: Kommer I med fred?
And the watchman that stoode in the towre in Izreel spyed the companie of Iehu as hee came, and sayd, I see a companie. And Iehoram said, Take a horseman and send to meete them, that hee may say, Is it peace?
18 Rytteren drog ham i møte og sa: Så sier kongen: Kommer I med fred? Jehu svarte: Hvad kommer det dig ved? Vend om og følg mig! Vekteren meldte det og sa: Budet har nådd frem til dem, men kommer ikke tilbake.
So there went one on horseback to meete him, and sayde, Thus sayth the King, Is it peace? And Iehu sayd, What hast thou to do with peace? Turne behinde me. And the watchman tolde, saying, The messenger came to them, but he commeth not againe.
19 Da sendte han en annen rytter, og da han kom til dem, sa han: Så sier kongen: Kommer I med fred? Jehu svarte: Hvad kommer det dig ved? Vend om og følg mig!
Then hee sent out another on horsebacke, which came to them, and sayde, Thus sayth the King, Is it peace? And Iehu answered, What hast thou to doe with peace? turne behinde me.
20 Vekteren meldte det og sa: Han har nådd frem til dem, men kommer ikke tilbake. Efter måten de farer frem på, ser det ut som det kunde være Jehu, Nimsis sønn; for han farer frem som en rasende.
And the watchman tolde, saying, He came to them also, but commeth not againe, and the marching is like the marching of Iehu the sonne of Nimshi: for he marcheth furiously.
21 Da sa Joram: Spenn for! Og de spente for hans vogn; og Israels konge Joram og Judas konge Akasja drog ut, hver på sin vogn; de drog Jehu i møte og traff ham på jisre'elitten Nabots mark.
Then Iehoram sayd, Make ready: and his charet was made ready. And Iehoram King of Israel and Ahaziah King of Iudah went out eyther of them in his charet against Iehu, and met him in the fielde of Naboth the Izreelite.
22 Da Joram fikk øie på Jehu, spurte han: Kommer du med fred, Jehu? Han svarte: Hvorledes kan du tale om fred så lenge din mor Jesabel holder på med sitt horelevnet og sine mange trolldomskunster?
And when Iehoram sawe Iehu, he sayde, Is it peace, Iehu? And he answered, What peace? whiles the whoredomes of thy mother Iezebel, and her witchcraftes are yet in great nomber?
23 Da vendte Joram om og flyktet, og han ropte til Akasja: Det er forræderi, Akasja!
Then Iehoram turned his hand, and fled, and said to Ahaziah, O Ahaziah, there is treason.
24 Men Jehu grep sin bue med hånden og skjøt Joram mellem armene, så pilen gikk ut gjennem hjertet, og han sank ned i sin vogn.
But Iehu tooke a bowe in his hande, and smote Iehoram betweene the shoulders, that the arowe went through his heart: and he fell downe in his charet.
25 Da sa Jehu til sin høvedsmann Bidkar: Ta og kast ham inn på jisre'elitten Nabots mark! Kom i hu hvorledes jeg og du red sammen efter hans far Akab, og Herren uttalte dette ord mot ham:
Then said Iehu to Bidkar a captaine, Take, and cast him in some place of the fielde of Naboth the Izreelite: for I remember that when I and thou rode together after Ahab his father, the Lord layed this burden vpon him.
26 Sannelig, Nabots blod og hans sønners blod så jeg igår, sier Herren, og jeg vil gjengjelde dig det på denne mark, sier Herren. Så ta nu og kast ham inn på marken efter Herrens ord!
Surely I haue seene yesterday the blood of Naboth, and the blood of his sonnes, saide the Lord, and I will render it thee in this fielde, saith the Lord: nowe therefore take and cast him in the fielde, according to the word of the Lord.
27 Da Judas konge Akasja så det, flyktet han og tok veien til havehuset; men Jehu satte efter ham og ropte: Slå også ham ned! Og de slo ham ned i hans vogn i Gur-kleven ved Jibleam, og han flyktet til Megiddo og døde der.
But when Ahaziah the King of Iudah saw this, he fled by the way of the garden house: And Iehu pursued after him, and sayd, Smite him also in the charet: and they smote him in the going vp to Gur, which is by Ibleam. And hee fled to Megiddo, and there dyed.
28 Hans tjenere kjørte ham til Jerusalem, og de begravde ham i hans grav hos hans fedre i Davids stad.
And his seruants caried him in a charet to Ierusalem, and buried him in his sepulchre with his fathers in the citie of Dauid.
29 Men Akasja var blitt konge over Juda i Jorams, Akabs sønns ellevte år.
And in the eleuenth yere of Ioram the sonne of Ahab, began Ahaziah to reigne ouer Iudah.
30 Så kom Jehu til Jisre'el; og da Jesabel hørte det, sminket hun sine øine og smykket sitt hode og så ut gjennem vinduet.
And when Iehu was come to Izreel, Iezebel heard of it, and painted her face, and tired her head, and looked out at a windowe.
31 Og da Jehu kom inn gjennem porten, ropte hun: Kommer du med fred, du Simri som slo din herre ihjel?
And as Iehu entred at the gate, shee sayde, Had Zimri peace, which slewe his master?
32 Men han så op mot vinduet og sa: Hvem holder med mig? Hvem? Da så to, tre hoffmenn ut gjennem vinduet.
And he lift vp his eyes to the windowe, and sayd, Who is on my side, who? Then two or three of her Eunuches looked vnto him.
33 Han ropte: Styrt henne ned! Da styrtet de henne ned, og hennes blod sprutet opefter veggen og på hestene, og han lot hestene tråkke henne ned.
And he sayde, Cast her downe: and they cast her downe, and hee sprinkled of her blood vpon the wall, and vpon the horses, and he trode her vnder foote.
34 Så gikk han inn, og da han hadde ett og drukket, sa han: Se efter denne forbannede kvinne og begrav henne! For hun er kongedatter.
And when he was come in, he did eate and drinke, and sayde, Visite now yonder cursed woman, and burie her: for she is a Kings daughter.
35 Men da de gikk avsted for å begrave henne, fant de ikke annet av henne enn hjerneskallen og føttene og hendene.
And they went to burie her, but they foud no more of her, then the skull and the feete, and the palmes of her handes.
36 De vendte tilbake og fortalte ham det; da sa han: Dette er det ord som Herren talte gjennem sin tjener tisbitten Elias da han sa: På Jisre'els mark skal hundene fortære Jesabels kjøtt,
Wherefore they came agayne and tolde him. And he said, This is the worde of the Lord, which he spake by his seruant Eliiah the Tishbite, saying, In the fielde of Izreel shall ye dogs eate the flesh of Iezebel.
37 og Jesabels lik skal bli som møkk på jorden på Jisre'els mark, så ingen skal kunne si: Dette er Jesabel.
And the carkeis of Iezebel shalbe as doung vpon the ground in the field of Izreel, so that none shall say, This is Iezebel.
