2 Kongebok 23

1 Da sendte kongen bud efter alle Judas og Jerusalems eldste, og de samledes hos ham.

And the king sent, and they gathered to him all the elders of Judah and of Jerusalem.

2 Og kongen gikk op til Herrens hus, og hver mann av Juda og alle Jerusalems innbyggere fulgte ham - prestene og profetene og alt folket, både store og små; og han leste op for dem alt det som stod skrevet i paktens bok, den som var funnet i Herrens hus.

And the king went up to the house of Jehovah, and all the men of Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem with him, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the people, both small and great. And he read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant which was found in the house of Jehovah.

3 Og kongen stod på forhøiningen og gjorde den pakt for Herrens åsyn at de skulde følge Herren og holde hans bud og hans vidnesbyrd og hans forskrifter av alt sitt hjerte og av all sin sjel - at de skulde holde denne pakts ord, de som var skrevet i denne bok. Og alt folket trådte inn i pakten.

And the king stood by the pillar, and made a covenant before Jehovah to walk after Jehovah, and to keep his commandments, and his testimonies, and his statutes, with all his heart, and all his soul, to confirm the words of this covenant that were written in this book. And all the people stood to the covenant.

4 Så bød kongen ypperstepresten Hilkias og prestene av annen rang og vokterne ved dørtreskelen å føre ut av Herrens tempel alle de redskaper som var gjort til Ba'al og Astarte og til hele himmelens hær; og han brente dem op utenfor Jerusalem på Kidron-markene og lot støvet av dem føre til Betel.

And the king commanded Hilkiah the high priest, and the priests of the second order, and the keepers of the threshold, to bring forth out of the temple of Jehovah all the vessels that were made for Baal, and for the Asherah, and for all the host of heaven, and he burned them outside Jerusalem in the fields of the Kidron, and carried the ashes of them to Bethel.

5 Han avsatte de prester som Judas konger hadde innsatt, og som brente røkelse på haugene i Judas byer og rundt omkring Jerusalem, og dem som brente røkelse for Ba'al, for solen og månen og dyrekretsens stjernebilleder og hele himmelens hær.

And he put down the idolatrous priests, whom the kings of Judah had ordained to burn incense in the high places in the cities of Judah, and in the places round about Jerusalem; those also who burned incense to Baal, to the sun, and to the moon, and to the planets, and to all the host of heaven.

6 Han tok Astarte-billedet ut av Herrens hus og lot det føre utenfor Jerusalem til Kidron-dalen og brenne op i Kidron-dalen og knuse til støv; og han kastet støvet av det på de ringe folks graver.

And he brought out the Asherah from the house of Jehovah, outside Jerusalem, to the brook Kidron, and burned it at the brook Kidron, and beat it to dust, and cast the dust of it upon the graves of the common people.

7 Han rev ned tempel-bolernes huser, som lå like ved Herrens hus, hvor kvinnene vevde småtelt for Astarte.

And he broke down the houses of the sodomites that were in the house of Jehovah where the women wove hangings for the Asherah.

8 Han lot alle prestene komme fra Judas byer og gjorde de hauger urene hvor prestene hadde brent røkelse, fra Geba til Be'erseba, og han brøt ned haugene ved portene, både den som lå ved inngangen til byhøvedsmannen Josvas port, og den som lå til venstre ved byporten.

And he brought all the priests out of the cities of Judah, and defiled the high places where the priests had burned incense, from Geba to Beersheba. And he broke down the high places of the gates that were at the entrance of the gate of Joshua the governor of the city, which were on a man's left hand at the gate of the city.

9 Dog fikk haugenes prester ikke ofre på Herrens alter i Jerusalem, men de åt usyret brød blandt sine brødre.

Nevertheless the priests of the high places did not come up to the altar of Jehovah in Jerusalem, but they ate unleavened bread among their brothers.

10 Han gjorde også Tofet i Hinnoms barns dal urent, så ikke nogen skulde la sin sønn eller datter gå gjennem ilden for Molok.

And he defiled Topheth, which is in the valley of the sons of Hinnom, that no man might make his son or his daughter to pass through the fire to Molech.

11 Han hadde bort de hester som Judas konger hadde innvidd til solen, tett ved inngangen til Herrens hus, ved hoffmannen Netan-Meleks kammer i Parvarim; og solens vogner brente han op med ild.

And he took away the horses that the kings of Judah had given to the sun, at the entrance of the house of Jehovah, by the chamber of Nathan-melech the chamberlain, which was in the suburbs. And he burned the chariots of the sun with fire.

12 Alterne på taket over Akas' sal, som Judas konger hadde gjort, og de alter som Manasse hadde gjort i begge forgårdene til Herrens hus, rev kongen ned; og han smuldret dem og hadde dem bort derfra og kastet støvet av dem i Kidrons bekk.

And the altars that were on the roof of the upper chamber of Ahaz, which the kings of Judah had made, and the altars which Manasseh had made in the two courts of the house of Jehovah, the king broke down, and beat them down from there, and cast the dust of them into the brook Kidron.

13 De offerhauger som lå midt imot Jerusalem på høire side av Ødeleggelsens berg, og som Israels konge Salomo hadde bygget for Astarte, sidoniernes vederstyggelighet, og for Kamos, Moabs vederstyggelighet, og for Milkom, Ammons barns vederstyggelighet, dem gjorde kongen urene.

And the king defiled the high places that were before Jerusalem, which were on the right hand of the mount of corruption, which Solomon the king of Israel had built for Ashtoreth the abomination of the Sidonians, and for Chemosh the abomination of Moab, and for Milcom the abomination of the sons of Ammon.

14 Han slo billedstøttene i stykker og hugg ned Astarte-billedene og fylte det sted hvor de hadde stått, med menneskeben.

And he broke in pieces the pillars, and cut down the Asherim, and filled their places with the bones of men.

15 Også alteret i Betel, den offerhaug som Jeroboam, Nebats sønn, hadde gjort, han som fikk Israel til å synde, også det alter og den offerhaug rev han ned; og han brente op haugen og knuste den til støv; likeså brente han op Astarte-billedet.

Moreover the altar that was at Bethel, and the high place which Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin, had made, even that altar and the high place he broke down. And he burned the high place and beat it to dust, and burned the Asherah.

16 Da Josias vendte sig om og så gravene som var der på fjellet, sendte han folk dit og lot benene ta ut av gravene og brenne op på alteret og gjorde det urent efter Herrens ord, det som den Guds mann hadde utropt, han som ropte ut at dette skulde skje.

And as Josiah turned himself, he noticed the sepulchers that were there in the mount. And he sent, and took the bones out of the sepulchers, and burned them upon the altar, and defiled it, according to the word of Jehovah which the man of God proclaimed, who proclaimed these things.

17 Så sa han: Hvad er det for en stenstøtte jeg ser der borte? Byens menn svarte: Det er gravstedet til den Guds mann som kom fra Juda og ropte ut over alteret i Betel at det skulde skje som du nu har gjort.

Then he said, What monument is that which I see? And the men of the city told him, It is the sepulcher of the man of God who came from Judah, and proclaimed these things that thou have done against the altar of Bethel.

18 Da sa han: La ham hvile i fred, ingen må flytte hans ben! Så lot de hans ben være i fred og likeså benene av den profet som var kommet fra Samaria.

And he said, Let him be; let no man move his bones. So they let his bones alone, with the bones of the prophet who came out of Samaria.

19 Også alle offerhaug-husene i Samarias byer som Israels konger hadde gjort for å vekke Herrens harme, fikk Josias bort og gjorde med dem aldeles som han hadde gjort i Betel.

And Josiah also took away all the houses of the high places that were in the cities of Samaria, which the kings of Israel had made to provoke Jehovah to anger. And he did to them according to all the acts that he had done in Bethel.

20 Og alle offerhaug-prestene som var der, lot han drepe på alterne og brente menneskeben på dem. Så vendte han tilbake til Jerusalem.

And he killed all the priests of the high places that were there, upon the altars, and burned men's bones upon them. And he returned to Jerusalem.

21 Og kongen bød alt folket: Hold påske for Herren eders Gud, således som skrevet er i denne paktens bok!

And the king commanded all the people, saying, Keep the Passover to Jehovah your God, as it is written in this book of the covenant.

22 For en påske som denne var ikke blitt holdt fra den tid da dommerne dømte Israel, heller ikke i hele den tid det hadde vært konger i Israel og Juda.

Surely such a Passover was not kept from the days of the judges who judged Israel, nor in all the days of the kings of Israel, nor of the kings of Judah.

23 Det var først i kong Josias' attende år at en sådan påske blev holdt for Herren i Jerusalem.

But in the eighteenth year of king Josiah this Passover was kept to Jehovah in Jerusalem.

24 Også dødningemanerne og sannsigerne og husgudene og de motbydelige avguder og alle de vederstyggeligheter som hadde vært å se i Juda land og i Jerusalem, utryddet Josias for å holde lovens ord som var skrevet i den bok presten Hilkias hadde funnet i Herrens hus.

Moreover Josiah put away the psychics, and the wizards, and the teraphim, and the idols, and all the abominations that were seen in the land of Judah and in Jerusalem, that he might perform the words of the law which were written in the book that Hilkiah the priest found in the house of Jehovah.

25 Det hadde aldri før vært nogen konge som han, nogen som således hadde omvendt sig til Herren av alt sitt hjerte og av all sin sjel og av all sin styrke efter hele Mose lov, og efter ham opstod det ingen som han.

And there was no king before him like him, who turned to Jehovah with all his heart, and with all his soul, and with all his might, according to all the law of Moses; neither arose any like him after him.

26 Dog vendte Herren ikke om fra sin store, brennende vrede, som var optendt mot Juda for alle de harmelige synder hvormed Manasse hadde vakt hans harme.

Notwithstanding, Jehovah did not turn from the fierceness of his great wrath, with which his anger was kindled against Judah, because of all the provocations with which Manasseh had provoked him.

27 Og Herren sa: Også Juda vil jeg støte bort fra mitt åsyn, likesom jeg støtte Israel bort, og jeg vil forkaste denne stad som jeg har utvalgt, Jerusalem, og det hus hvorom jeg sa: Mitt navn skal bo der.

And Jehovah said, I will remove Judah also out of my sight as I have removed Israel, and I will cast off this city which I have chosen, even Jerusalem, and the house of which I said, My name shall be there.

28 Hvad som ellers er å fortelle om Josias og om alt det han gjorde, det er opskrevet i Judas kongers krønike.

Now the rest of the acts of Josiah, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

29 I hans tid drog kongen i Egypten Farao Neko op mot kongen i Assyria til Frat-elven, og kong Josias drog imot ham; men Neko drepte ham ved Megiddo, så snart han fikk se ham.

In his days Pharaoh-necoh king of Egypt went up against the king of Assyria to the river Euphrates, and king Josiah went against him. And Pharaoh-necoh killed him at Megiddo when he had seen him.

30 Hans tjenere kjørte ham død fra Megiddo og førte ham til Jerusalem og begravde ham i hans grav; og landets folk tok og salvet Joakas, Josias' sønn, og gjorde ham til konge i hans fars sted.

And his servants carried him in a chariot dead from Megiddo, and brought him to Jerusalem, and buried him in his own sepulcher. And the people of the land took Jehoahaz the son of Josiah, and anointed him, and made him king in his father's stead.

31 Joakas var tre og tyve år gammel da han blev konge, og han regjerte tre måneder i Jerusalem; hans mor hette Hamutal; hun var datter av Jirmeja og var fra Libna.

Jehoahaz was twenty-three years old when he began to reign, and he reigned three months in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Hamutal the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah.

32 Han gjorde hvad ondt var i Herrens øine, aldeles som hans fedre hadde gjort.

And he did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah, according to all that his fathers had done.

33 Farao Neko la ham i lenker i Ribla i Hamat-landet, efterat han var blitt konge i Jerusalem, og påla landet i bøter hundre talenter sølv og én talent gull.

And Pharaoh-necoh put him in bonds at Riblah in the land of Hamath, that he might not reign in Jerusalem. And he put the land to a tribute of a hundred talents of silver, and a talent of gold.

34 Så gjorde Farao Neko Eljakim, Josias' sønn, til konge i hans far Josias' sted og forandret hans navn til Jojakim; men Joakas tok han med sig til Egypten, og der døde han.

And Pharaoh-necoh made Eliakim the son of Josiah king in the place of Josiah his father, and changed his name to Jehoiakim. But he took Jehoahaz away, and he came to Egypt, and died there.

35 Jojakim betalte sølvet og gullet til Farao; men han måtte utligne en skatt på landet for å kunne betale den sum som Farao hadde krevd; han inndrev sølvet og gullet av landets folk efter som enhver var lignet, og betalte det så til Farao Neko.

And Jehoiakim gave the silver and the gold to Pharaoh, but he taxed the land to give the money according to the commandment of Pharaoh. He exacted the silver and the gold from the people of the land, of every one according to his taxation, to give it to Pharaoh-necoh.

36 Jojakim var fem og tyve år gammel da han blev konge, og han regjerte elleve år i Jerusalem; hans mor hette Sebida; hun var datter av Pedaja og var fra Ruma.

Jehoiakim was twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Zebidah the daughter of Pedaiah of Rumah.

37 Han gjorde hvad ondt var i Herrens øine, aldeles som hans fedre hadde gjort.

And he did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah, according to all that his fathers had done.
