2 Krønikebok 23

1 Men i det syvende år tok Jojada mot til sig og gjorde en pakt med nogen av høvedsmennene over hundre; det var Asarja, Jerohams sønn, og Ismael, Johanans sønn, og Asarja, Obeds sønn, og Ma'aseja, Adajas sønn, og Elisafat, Sikris sønn.

And in the seventh year Yehoyada' strengthened himself, and took the captains of the hundreds, 'Azaryah the son of Jerocham and Yishma'el the son of Jehochanan, and 'Azaryahu the son of 'Obed, and Ma'asseyahu the son of 'Adayahu, and Elishaphat the son of Zichri, with him into a covenant.

2 Så drog de omkring i Juda og samlet levittene fra alle Judas byer og Israels familiehoder; og da de kom til Jerusalem,

And they moved about in Judah, and gathered the Levites together out of all the cities of Judah, and the heads of the families of Israel; and they came to Jerusalem.

3 gjorde hele forsamlingen en pakt med kongen i Guds hus, og Jojada sa til dem: Kongens sønn skal nu være konge, således som Herren har sagt om Davids sønner.

And all the congregation made a covenant in the house of God with the king. And he said unto them, Behold, the king's son shall be king, as the Lord hath spoken concerning the sons of David.

4 Hør nu hvad I skal gjøre: Den ene tredjedel av eder, de prester og levitter som tiltreder vakttjenesten på sabbaten, skal stå vakt ved dørtresklene,

This is the thing that ye shall do, A third part of you that enter in on the sabbath, of the priests and of the Levites, shall be gatekeepers at the thresholds;

5 og den annen tredjedel ved kongeboligen og den tredje tredjedel ved Jesod-porten, og alt folket i forgårdene ved Herrens hus.

And a third part shall be at the king's house; and a third part at the foundation-gate; and all the people shall be in the courts of the house of the Lord.

6 Men ingen må komme inn i Herrens hus uten prestene og de av levittene som gjør tjeneste; de kan gå inn, for de er hellige; men alle de andre av folket skal holde sig efter det Herren har foreskrevet.

But let none come into the house of the Lord, save the priests, and they that minister of the Levites: they shall enter, for they are holy; but all the people shall keep the charge of the Lord.

7 Levittene skal stille sig rundt omkring kongen, hver mann med våben i hånd, og den som kommer inn i huset, skal drepes; I skal være om kongen, både når han går inn, Og når han går ut.

And the Levites shall encompass the king round about, every man with his weapons in his hand: and he who cometh into the house shall be put to death; and be ye with the king when he cometh in, and when he goeth out.

8 Levittene og hele Juda gjorde aldeles som presten Jojada hadde befalt; de tok hver sine menn, både dem som tiltrådte på sabbaten, og dem som trådte av på sabbaten; for presten Jojada hadde ikke latt skiftene få hjemlov.

And the Levites and all Judah did in accordance with all that Yehoyada' the priest had commanded, and they took every man his men that came in on the sabbath, with those that were to be relieved on the sabbath; for Yehoyada' the priest had not dismissed the divisions.

9 Og presten Jojada gav høvedsmennene de spyd og små og store skjold som hadde tilhørt kong David, og som var i Guds hus.

And Yehoyada' the priest gave to the captains of the hundreds the spears, and the shields, and the quivers, that belonged to king David, which were in the house of God.

10 Og han stilte alt folket op, hver mann med våben i hånd, fra husets høire side til husets venstre side bortimot alteret Og bortimot huset rundt omkring kongen.

And he placed all the people, every man having his weapon in his hand, from the right side of the house to the left side of the house, along by the altar and the temple, all round about the king,

11 Så førte de kongesønnen ut og satte kronen på ham og overgav ham vidnesbyrdet, og de gjorde ham til konge; og Jojada og hans sønner salvet ham og ropte: Kongen leve!

Then did they bring forth the king's son, and put upon him the crown, and [gave him] the testimony, and they made him king. And Yehoyada' and his sons anointed him, and said, Long live the king.

12 Da Atalja hørte ropet fra folket som sprang frem og hyldet kongen, gikk hun inn i Herrens hus til folket.

And when 'Athalyah heard the noise of the people running and praising the king, she came to the people into the house of the Lord.

13 Der fikk hun se at kongen stod på sin forhøining i inngangen, og høvedsmennene og trompetblåserne stod hos ham, og hele folkemengden gledet sig og støtte i trompetene, og sangerne var der med sine instrumenter og sang Herrens lov og pris; da sønderrev Atalja sine klær og ropte: Oprør, oprør!

And she looked, and behold, the king stood upon his stand at the entrance, and the princes and the trumpets were around the king; and all the people of the land rejoiced, and blew on trumpets; also the singers [were there] leading with instruments of music in the songs of praise; and 'Athalyah rent her clothes, and said, “Treason, treason.”

14 Men presten Jojada lot høvedsmennene, dem som var satt over hæren, gå ut og sa til dem: Før henne ut mellem rekkene, og om nogen følger henne, så skal han drepes med sverd. For presten hadde sagt: I skal ikke drepe henne i Herrens hus.

But Yehoyada' the priest ordered the captains of the hundreds, the commanders of the army, to go out, and said unto them, Lead her forth to within the ranges; and he that followeth her shall be put to death with the sword. For the priest had said, Ye shall not put her to death in the house of the Lord.

15 Så gjorde de plass for henne til begge sider, og da hun kom dit hvor Hesteporten fører inn til kongens hus, drepte de henne.

And they made way for her: and she went to the entrance of the horse-gate by the king's house, and they put her to death there.

16 Og Jojada gjorde en pakt mellem sig og alt folket og kongen at de skulde være Herrens folk.

And Yehoyada' made a covenant between him, and between all the people, and between the king, that they should be a people unto the Lord.

17 Og alt folket gikk inn i Ba'als hus og rev det ned; hans altere og hans billeder knuste de, og Ba'als prest Mattan drepte de foran alterne.

And then came all the people into the house of Ba'al, and pulled it down, and his altars and his images did they break in pieces, and Mathhan the priest of Ba'al they slew before the altars.

18 Og Jojada overlot tilsynet i Herrens hus til de levittiske prester, som David hadde inndelt i skifter for tjenesten i Herrens hus, til å ofre Herrens brennoffere, som skrevet er i Mose lov, med glede og sang efter Davids forskrift.

And Yehoyada' placed the supervision over the house of the Lord into the hand of the priests, the Levites, whom David had divided off over the house of the Lord, to offer the burnt-offerings of the Lord, as it is written in the law of Moses, with rejoicing and with singing, after the manner of David.

19 Og han satte dørvoktere ved portene til Herrens hus, forat ingen som var blitt uren på nogen måte, skulde komme inn der.

And he appointed the gatekeepers over the gates of the house of the Lord, that none unclean in any thing should enter therein.

20 Så tok han med sig høvedsmennene over hundre og de fornemste og de mektige blandt folket og hele folkemengden og førte kongen ned fra Herrens hus, og de gikk gjennem den øvre port inn i kongens hus og satte kongen på kongetronen.

And he took the captains of the hundreds, and the nobles, and the governors over the people, and all the people of the land, and he brought down the king from the house of the Lord, and they came through the midst of the upper gate into the king's house; and they caused the king to sit upon the throne of the kingdom.

21 Og hele folkemengden gledet sig, og byen var rolig; men Atalja hadde de drept med sverd.

And all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was quiet; but 'Athalyahu they had slain with the sword.
