1 Samuels 15
1 Samuel sa til Saul: Det var mig Herren sendte for å salve dig til konge over hans folk, over Israel; så lyd nu Herrens ord!
Afterward Samuel said vnto Saul, The Lord sent me to anoint thee King ouer his people, ouer Israel: nowe therefore obey the voyce of the wordes of the Lord.
2 Så sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud: Jeg vil hjemsøke Amalek for det han gjorde mot Israel, at han la sig i veien for ham da han drog op fra Egypten.
Thus saith the Lord of hostes, I remember what Amalek did to Israel, howe they laide waite for the in ye way, as they came vp from Egypt.
3 Gå nu avsted og slå Amalek, og slå med bann alt hvad hans er; spar ham ikke, men drep både mann og kvinne, både barn og diebarn, både okse og får, både kamel og asen.
Nowe therefore goe, and sinite Amalek, and destroy ye all that perteyneth vnto them, and haue no compassion on them, but slay both man and woman, both infant and suckling, both oxe, and sheepe, both camell, and asse.
4 Så kalte Saul folket til våben og mønstret dem i Tela'im; det var to hundre tusen mann fotfolk og ti tusen mann fra Juda.
And Saul assembled ye people, and nombred them in Telaim, two hundreth thousande footemen, and ten thousand men of Iudah.
5 Da Saul kom til amalekittenes by, la han et bakhold i dalen.
And Saul came to a citie of Amalek, and set watch at the riuer.
6 Og Saul sa til kenittene: Gå bort, skill eder fra amalekittene og dra ned, så jeg ikke skal ødelegge eder sammen med dem! For I gjorde vel imot alle Israels barn da de drog op fra Egypten. Så skilte kenittene lag med amalekittene.
And Saul said vnto the Kenites, Goe, depart, and get you downe from among the Amalekites, least I destroy you with them: for ye shewed mercie to all the children of Israel, when they came vp from Egypt: and the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites.
7 Saul slo amalekittene og forfulgte dem fra Havila til bortimot Sur, som ligger østenfor Egypten.
So Saul smote the Amalekites from Hauilah as thou commest to Shur, that is before Egypt,
8 Og han tok Agag, Amaleks konge, levende til fange, og alt folket slo han med bann og drepte dem med sverdets egg.
And tooke Agag the King of the Amalekites aliue, and destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword.
9 Men Saul og folket sparte Agag og det beste og det næstbeste av småfeet og storfeet og lammene - alt som så godt ut - og vilde ikke slå dem med bann; men alt det fe som var ringe og usselt, det slo de med bann.
But Saul and the people spared Agag, and the better sheepe, and the oxen, and the fat beasts, and the lambes, and all that was good, and they would not destroy them: but euery thing that was vile and nought worth, that they destroyed.
10 Da kom Herrens ord til Samuel, og det lød således:
Then came the worde of the Lord vnto Samuel, saying,
11 Jeg angrer at jeg har gjort Saul til konge; for han har vendt sig bort fra mig og ikke holdt sig efter mine ord. Da optendtes Samuels vrede, og han ropte til Herren hele natten.
It repenteth me that I haue made Saul King: for he is turned from me, and hath not performed my commandements. And Samuel was mooued, and cryed vnto the Lord all night.
12 Morgenen efter stod Samuel tidlig op for å møte Saul; da kom nogen og sa til Samuel: Saul er kommet til Karmel, og der har han reist sig et minnesmerke; siden vendte han om og drog videre ned til Gilgal.
And when Samuel arose early to meete Saul in the morning, one tolde Samuel, saying, Saul is gone to Carmel: and beholde, he hath made him there a place, from whence he returned, and departed, and is gone downe to Gilgal.
13 Da nu Samuel kom til Saul, sa Saul til ham: Velsignet være du av Herren! Jeg har holdt mig efter Herrens ord.
Then Samuel came to Saul, and Saul said vnto him. Blessed be thou of the Lord, I haue fulfilled the commandement of the Lord.
14 Men Samuel sa: Hvad er da dette for en bræken av småfe som lyder for mine ører, og hvad er det for brøl av storfe jeg hører?
But Samuel saide, What meaneth then the bleating of the sheepe in mine eares, and the lowing of the oxen which I heare?
15 Saul svarte: De har ført dem med fra amalekittene; for folket sparte det beste av småfeet og av storfeet for å ofre det til Herren din Gud; men resten har vi slått med bann.
And Saul answered, They haue brought them from the Amalekites: for the people spared the best of the sheepe, and of the oxen to sacrifice them vnto the Lord thy God, and the remnant haue we destroyed.
16 Da sa Samuel til Saul: Hold op, så vil jeg forkynne dig hvad Herren har talt til mig inatt! Han sa til ham: Tal!
Againe Samuel saide to Saul, Let me tell thee what the Lord hath saide to me this night. And he said vnto him, Say on.
17 Samuel sa: Da du var ringe i dine egne øine, blev du hode for Israels stammer, og Herren salvet dig til konge over Israel.
Then Samuel saide, When thou wast litle in thine owne sight, wast thou not made the head of the tribes of Israel? for the Lord anointed thee King ouer Israel.
18 Og Herren sendte dig avsted og sa: Gå og slå disse syndere, amalekittene, med bann og strid mot dem til du får gjort ende på dem!
And the Lord sent thee on a iourney, and saide, Goe, and destroy those sinners the Amalekites, and fight against them, vntill thou destroy them.
19 Hvorfor lød du da ikke Herrens ord, men kastet dig over hærfanget og gjorde hvad ondt var i Herrens øine?
Nowe wherefore hast thou not obeyed the voyce of the Lord, but hast turned to the pray, and hast done wickedly in the sight of the Lord?
20 Da sa Saul til Samuel: Jeg har lydt Herrens ord og har gått den vei Herren sendte mig; jeg har ført Agag, Amaleks konge, hit og slått Amalek med bann.
And Saul saide vnto Samuel, Yea, I haue obeyed the voyce of the Lord, and haue gone the way which the Lord sent me, and haue brought Agag the King of Amalek, and haue destroyed the Amalekites.
21 Men folket tok av hærfanget småfe og storfe, det ypperste av det bannlyste, for å ofre det til Herren din Gud i Gilgal.
But the people tooke of the spoyle, sheepe, and oxen, and the chiefest of the things which shoulde haue bene destroyed, to offer vnto the Lord thy God in Gilgal.
22 Da sa Samuel: Har vel Herren like så meget behag i brennoffer og slaktoffer som i lydighet mot Herrens ord? Nei, lydighet er bedre enn slaktoffer, hørsomhet bedre enn fettet av værer;
And Samuel saide, Hath the Lord as great pleasure in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as when the voyce of the Lord is obeyed? beholde, to obey is better then sacrifice, and to hearken is better then the fatte of rammes.
23 for gjenstridighet er ikke bedre enn trolldoms-synd, og trossighet er som avgudsdyrkelse. Fordi du har forkastet Herrens ord, har han forkastet dig, så du ikke skal være konge.
For rebellion is as the sinne of withcraft, and transgression is wickednesse and idolatrie. Because thou hast cast away the worde of the Lord, therefore hee hath cast away thee from being King.
24 Da sa Saul til Samuel: Jeg har syndet; jeg har overtrådt Herrens bud og dine ord; for jeg var redd folket og gav efter for dem.
Then Saul sayde vnto Samuel, I haue sinned: for I haue transgressed the commandement of the Lord, and thy wordes, because I feared the people, and obeyed their voyce.
25 Men forlat mig nu min synd og vend tilbake med mig, forat jeg kan tilbede Herren!
Nowe therefore I pray thee, take away my sinne, and turne againe with mee, that I may worship the Lord.
26 Samuel svarte Saul: Jeg vil ikke vende tilbake med dig; for du har forkastet Herrens ord, og så har Herren forkastet dig, så du ikke skal være konge over Israel.
But Samuel saide vnto Saul, I will not returne with thee: for thou hast cast away the word of the Lord, and the Lord hath cast away thee, that thou shalt not be King ouer Israel.
27 Dermed vendte Samuel sig og vilde gå. Men Saul grep fatt i kanten av hans kappe, så den blev revet av.
And as Samuel turned himselfe to goe away, he caught the lappe of his coate, and it rent.
28 Da sa Samuel til ham: Herren har idag revet kongedømmet over Israel fra dig og gitt det til en annen, som er bedre enn du.
Then Samuel saide vnto him, The Lord hath rent the kingdome of Israel from thee this day, and hath giuen it to thy neighbour, that is better then thou.
29 Og Israels trofaste Gud lyver ikke og angrer ikke; for han er ikke et menneske, så han skulde angre.
For in deede the strength of Israel will not lye nor repent: for hee is not a man that hee should repent.
30 Saul svarte: Jeg har syndet, men vis mig allikevel nu ære for mitt folks eldste og for Israel og vend tilbake med mig! Så vil jeg tilbede Herren din Gud.
Then he saide, I haue sinned: but honour mee, I pray thee, before the Elders of my people, and before Israel, and turne againe with mee, that I may worship the Lord thy God.
31 Da fulgte Samuel Saul tilbake, og Saul tilbad Herren.
So Samuel turned againe, and followed Saul: and Saul worshipped the Lord.
32 Så sa Samuel: Før Agag, Amaleks konge, hit til mig! Glad i hu gikk Agag bort til ham, og Agag sa: Visselig, dødens bitterhet er veket bort.
Then saide Samuel, Bring yee hither to me Agag ye King of the Amalekites: and Agag came vnto him pleasantly, and Agag saide, Truely the bitternesse of death is passed.
33 Men Samuel sa: Likesom ditt sverd har gjort kvinner barnløse, så skal nu din mor bli barnløs fremfor andre kvinner. Så hugg Samuel Agag ned for Herrens åsyn i Gilgal.
And Samuel sayde, As thy sworde hath made women childlesse, so shall thy mother bee childelesse among other women. And Samuel hewed Agag in pieces before the Lord in Gilgal.
34 Derefter drog Samuel til Rama, men Saul fór op til sitt hus i Sauls Gibea.
So Samuel departed to Ramah, and Saul went vp to his house to Gibeah of Saul.
35 Og Samuel så ikke Saul mere helt til sin dødsdag, for Samuel sørget over Saul. Men Herren angret at han hadde gjort Saul til konge over Israel.
And Samuel came no more to see Saul vntill the day of his death: but Samuel mourned for Saul, and the Lord repented that hee made Saul King ouer Israel.
