1 Året efter, ved den tid da kongene pleier å dra ut i krig, tok Joab ut med krigshæren og herjet Ammons barns land, og da han kom til Rabba, kringsatte han det; men David blev i Jerusalem; og Joab tok Rabba og ødela byen.
And it came to pass, at the time of the return of the year, at the time when kings go out to battle, that Joab led forth the army, and wasted the country of the sons of Ammon, and came and besieged Rabbah, but David remained at Jerusalem. And Joab smote Rabbah, and overthrew it.
2 Og David tok deres konges krone fra hans hode; det viste sig at den veide en talent gull, og der var på den en kostbar sten; nu kom den på Davids hode. Og det store hærfang han hadde tatt i byen, førte han med sig bort.
And David took the crown of their king from off his head, and found it to weigh a talent of gold, and there were precious stones in it. And it was set upon David's head, and he brought forth the spoil of the city, exceedingly much.
3 Og folket som bodde der, førte han ut og skar dem over med sager og treskesleder av jern eller hugg dem sønder med økser. Så gjorde David med alle Ammons barns byer. Derefter vendte David og alt folket tilbake til Jerusalem.
And he brought forth the people that were therein, and cut with saws, and with harrows of iron, and with axes. And thus David did to all the cities of the sons of Ammon. And David and all the people returned to Jerusalem.
4 Siden kom det til et slag med filistrene ved Geser; da slo husatitten Sibbekai Sippai, som hørte til Rafas barn, og de blev ydmyket.
And it came to pass after this, that there arose war at Gezer with the Philistines. Then Sibbecai the Hushathite killed Sippai of the sons of the giant, and they were subdued.
5 Så kom det atter til strid med filistrene; og Elhanan, Ja'urs sønn, slo Lahmi, en bror av gittitten Goliat, som hadde et spyd hvis skaft var som en veverstang.
And there was again war with the Philistines. And Elhanan the son of Jair killed Lahmi the brother of Goliath the Gittite, the staff of whose spear was like a weaver's beam.
6 Ennu en gang kom det til strid ved Gat. Der var en høivoksen mann, som hadde seks fingrer på hver hånd og seks tær på hver fot - i alt fire og tyve fingrer og tær; han var og en efterkommer av Rafa.
And there was again war at Gath, where was a man of great stature whose fingers and toes were twenty-four, six on each hand, and six on each foot. And he also was born to the giant.
7 Han hånte Israel; men Jonatan, sønn av Davids bror Simea, hugg ham ned.
And when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimea David's brother killed him.
8 Disse var efterkommere av Rafa i Gat, og de falt for Davids og hans menns hånd.
These were born to the giant in Gath, and they fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.
