1 Krønikebok 17
1 Som nu David bodde i sitt hus, sa han til profeten Natan: Se, jeg bor i et hus av sedertre mens Herrens pakts-ark bor under telttepper.
After David began to live in his palace, he said to the prophet Nathan, “[It does not seem right that] I am here living in a palace made of cedar [wood], but Yahweh’s Sacred Chest is kept inside a tent!”
2 Natan sa til David: Gjør du alt det du har i sinne! For Gud er med dig.
Nathan replied to David, “Whatever you are thinking about doing, do it, because God is with/guiding you.”
3 Men samme natt kom Guds ord til Natan, og det lød således:
But that night God spoke [MTY] to Nathan. He said,
4 Gå og si til min tjener David: Så sier Herren: Ikke skal du bygge mig det hus jeg skal bo i.
“Go and tell my servant David that this is what I, Yahweh, am saying to him: ‘You are not the one who should build a temple for me to live in.
5 Jeg har jo ikke bodd i hus fra den dag jeg førte Israel op, og til denne dag, men jeg vandret fra telt til telt og fra tabernakel til tabernakel.
I have not lived in any building, from the day that I brought the people of Israel up [out of Egypt] until now. Instead, I have [lived in a tent], moving from one place to another with [the Israelis] when they moved to other places [DOU].
6 Hvor jeg så vandret om i hele Israel, har jeg vel nogensinne talt således til nogen av Israels dommere, som jeg satte til å vokte mitt folk: Hvorfor har I ikke bygget mig et hus av sedertre?
Wherever I went with all the Israelis [as they traveled], I never [RHQ] said to any of their leaders whom I appointed to lead [MET] them, “Why have you not built me a temple made of cedar [wood]?”’
7 Og nu skal du si så til min tjener David: Så sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud: Jeg tok dig fra havnegangen, hvor du gikk bak fårene, forat du skulde være fyrste over mitt folk Israel.
Therefore, this is what you should say to my servant David: ‘I, the Almighty Commander of the armies of angels, took you from a pasture where you were taking care of sheep, [and I appointed you] to be the ruler of my Israeli people.
8 Og jeg var med dig overalt hvor du gikk, og utryddet alle dine fiender for dig, og jeg har latt dig vinne et navn så stort som de størstes på jorden.
I have (been with/helped) you wherever you have gone, and I have gotten rid of all your enemies as you advanced. And now I will cause you to become very famous, as well-known as the names of the greatest men [who have ever lived] on the earth.
9 Og jeg har gjort i stand et bosted for mitt folk Israel, og jeg har plantet det der, så det bor i sitt hjem og ikke uroes mere, og urettferdige mennesker ikke herjer det lenger som før,
Formerly, during the time that I appointed leaders for my Israeli people, many violent groups oppressed them. But this will not happen any more. I have chosen a place where my Israeli people can live [peacefully] and no one will disturb them any more. I will give not allow them to [be attacked by] their enemies. And I will defeat all your enemies. I declare to you that I, Yahweh, will enable your descendants to rule after you [die].
10 like fra den tid jeg satte dommere over mitt folk Israel, og jeg har ydmyket alle dine fiender. Og nu forkynner jeg dig at Herren vil bygge dig et hus.
11 Når dine dagers tall er fullt, og du går til dine fedre, da vil jeg efter dig opreise din ætt, en av dine sønner, og jeg vil grunnfeste hans kongedømme.
When your life ends [EUP], and you [die and] go to be with your ancestors [who have died], I will appoint one of your sons to become king, and I will enable his kingdom to (be strong/resist all their enemies).
12 Han skal bygge mig et hus, og jeg vil trygge hans trone til evig tid.
He is the one who will [arrange for] a temple to be built for me. And I will enable his descendants to be kings [MTY] of Israel forever.
13 Jeg vil være hans far, og han skal være min sønn, og min miskunnhet vil jeg ikke la vike fra ham, således som jeg lot den vike fra ham som var før dig,
I will be [like] a father to him, and [it will be as though] he [is] a son to me. I stopped loving [Saul, ] the one who was the king before you became king, but I will never stop loving your son.
14 men jeg vil la ham bli i mitt hus og i mitt rike til evig tid, og hans trone skal være grunnfestet til evig tid.
I will cause him to rule over my people [MTY], and his kingdom will endure forever [DOU].’”
15 Alle disse ord og hele dette syn bar Natan frem for David.
So Nathan reported to David everything that Yahweh had revealed to him.
16 Da gikk kong David inn og blev der inne for Herrens åsyn, og han sa: Hvem er jeg, Herre Gud, og hvad er mitt hus, at du har ført mig hertil?
Then David went [into the Sacred Tent] and sat in the presence of Yahweh, and prayed this: “Yahweh my God, I am certainly not [RHQ] worthy for you to have done all these things for me, and my family is not worthy, either.
17 Og enda var dette for lite dine øine, Gud, og du talte om din tjeners hus langt frem i tiden, og du har sett til mig på menneskers vis, sa du kunde ophøie mig, Herre Gud!
“And O God, now, in addition to everything else, you have spoken about what will happen to my descendants in the future for many generations. Yahweh my God, you have acted toward me as though I was the most important man [on the earth]!
18 Hvad skal så David mere si til dig om den ære du har vist din tjener? Du kjenner jo din tjener.
“What more can I, David, say to you [for honoring me]? Although you know very well what I am like,
19 Herre! For din tjeners skyld og efter ditt hjerte har du gjort alt dette store og forkynt alle disse store ting.
Yahweh, for my sake and because it is what you wanted to do, you have done these great things [for me], and you have revealed to me these things [that you are promising to do].
20 Herre! Det er ingen som du, og det er ingen Gud foruten dig, efter alt det vi har hørt med våre ører.
“Yahweh, you are great. There is no one like you. Only you are God, which is what we have always heard.
21 Og hvor er det på jorden et eneste folk som ditt folk Israel, et folk som Gud kom og fridde ut, så det skulde være hans eget folk, for å gjøre dig et navn ved store og forferdelige gjerninger, ved å drive ut hedningefolk for ditt folks skyld, som du fridde ut fra Egypten?
And there is no nation in the world like Israel [RHQ]. Israel is the only nation on the earth whose people you rescued. You performed great and awesome miracles, rescuing our ancestors from [being slaves in] Egypt, and expelling the people of other people-groups [who were in Canaan].
22 Og du satte ditt folk Israel til å være ditt folk til evig tid, og du, Herre, er blitt deres Gud.
You have caused us your Israeli people to belong to you forever, and you, Yahweh, have become our God!
23 Så la nu, Herre, det ord du har talt om din tjener og om hans hus, stå fast til evig tid, og gjør som du har sagt!
“And now Yahweh, I pray that you will cause the things that you have promised to do for me and my descendants [MTY] to be fulfilled forever.
24 Ja, la det stå fast! Da skal ditt navn bli stort til evig tid, så folk skal si: Herren, hærskarenes Gud, Israels Gud, er Gud for Israel! Og din tjener Davids hus skal være grunnfestet for ditt åsyn.
When that happens, you [MTY] will be famous forever. And people will exclaim, ‘The Almighty Commander of the armies of angels, is the God who rules Israel!’ And you will cause that forever there will be descendants [MTY] of mine who will rule.
25 For du, min Gud, har åpenbaret for din tjener at du vil bygge ham et hus. Derfor har din tjener fått frimodighet til å bede for ditt åsyn.
“You, my God, have revealed to me that you will cause [some of] my descendants to become kings. So I am brave enough to pray like this to you.
26 Og nu, Herre, du er Gud, og du har lovt din tjener denne lykke.
Yahweh, you are God! You have promised to do these good things for me.
27 Så la det nu behage dig å velsigne din tjeners hus, så det må bli stående for ditt åsyn til evig tid! For det som du, Herre, velsigner, er velsignet i all evighet.
And now you, Yahweh, have [promised to] bless my descendants [MTY], in order that they will continue to rule forever. That will happen because you, Yahweh, are the one who has blessed them, and you will keep blessing them forever.”
