1 For lenge siden talte Gud, mange ganger og på ulike måter, til forfedrene våre ved å la profetene holde fram budskap fra ham.
God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets,
2 Nå ved denne tidenes slutt har han talt til oss gjennom sin sønn. Gud lot Sønnen skape hele universet, og han har bestemt at alt til slutt skal tilhøre ham. (aiōn g165)
Hath in these last days spoken to us by [his] Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; (aiōn g165)
3 Sønnen er en kraftfull utstråling av Guds egen herlighet. Han er det synlige bilde på Gud og bærer oppe hele universet med sitt mektige ord. Han døde for at menneskene skulle få tilgivelse for syndene og sitter på Guds høyre side i himmelen og regjerer.
Who being the brightness of [his] glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself made purification of our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;
4 Guds sønn rangerer langt høyere enn englene. Gud tiltaler ham på en måte som viser at han er mye større enn englene.
Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.
5 Gud har jo aldri sagt til en engel:”Du er min Sønn. I dag har jeg blitt din Far.” Eller:”Jeg skal være hans Far, og han skal være min Sønn.”
For to which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son?
6 Og når Gud lar Sønnen, han som er den fremste, komme til jorden, sier Gud:”Alle Guds engler skal tilbe ham.”
And again, when he bringeth in the first-begotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him.
7 Når Gud taler om englene, sier han:”Jeg gjør mine engler til vind og tjenerne mine til ild.”
And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire.
8 Men til Sønnen sier han:”Gud, tronen din skal stå fast i all evighet. Du regjerer over folket ditt med rettferdighet. (aiōn g165)
But to the Son, [he saith], Thy throne, O God, [is] for ever and ever: a scepter of righteousness [is] the scepter of thy kingdom. (aiōn g165)
9 Du elsker det som er rett og hater det onde. Derfor har jeg, din Gud, gjort deg til konge og gitt deg mer ære og glede enn noen annen.”
Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, [even] thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.
10 Og:”Herre, i tidenes begynnelse la du jordens grunnvoll og formet himmelen med dine hender.
And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth: and the heavens are the works of thy hands.
11 Alt dette skal en dag forsvinne og bli til ingenting, men du kommer til å finnes i evighet. Ja, himmelen og jorden skal slites ut som klær.
They shall perish; but thou remainest: and they all shall become old as doth a garment;
12 Du skal rulle sammen disse utslitte plaggene og bytte dem ut mot en ny kledning. Selv skal du aldri bli forandret, og aldri dø.”
And as a vesture wilt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed; but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail.
13 Gud har ikke sagt til noen engel, det han sier til Sønnen:”Kom og sett deg på min høyre side for å regjere, til jeg har lagt dine fiender som en skammel under føttene dine.”
But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thy enemies thy footstool?
14 Nei, englene er bare tjenere. De er ånder som Gud har sendt ut for å hjelpe dem som blir frelst og få evig liv.
Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall inherit salvation?
