हितोपदेश 8
1 के बुद्धिले आव्हान गर्दैन र? के समझशक्तिले त्यसको सोर उचाल्दैन र?
Behold, wisdom calleth, and understanding sendeth forth her voice,
2 बाटोको छेउका उच्च ठाउँहरूमा, चौबाटाहरूमा बुद्धिले आफ्नो ठाउँ लिएको छ ।
On the top of high places, by the wayside, at the house where there are [many] paths doth she place herself.
3 सहरको मूल ढोकाको सामु, प्रवेशद्वारमा त्यो चर्को सोरले यसरी कराउँछ,
Alongside of gates, at the opening of the city, at the entrance of the town[-doors] doth she call loudly,
4 “हे मानिसहरू हो, म तिमीहरूलाई नै आव्हान गर्दछु । मेरो सोर मानव-जातिका छोराहरूका लागि हो ।
Unto you, O men, I call, and my voice [goeth forth] to the sons of men,
5 तिमीहरू जो निर्बुद्धि छौ, बुद्धि प्राप्त गर । तिमीहरू जो मूर्ख छौ, तिमीहरूले समझशक्तिको हृदय प्राप्त गर ।
Learn, O ye simple, to understand prudence: and, ye fools, be ye of an understanding heart.
6 सुन, किनकि म आदरणीय कुराहरूको विषयमा बताउने छु, र मेरो ओठ खुला हुँदा मैले सिधा कुराहरू भन्ने छु ।
Hear! for of noble things will I speak; and the opening of my lips shall be of what is equitable.
7 किनकि मेरो मुखले भरोसायोग्य कुरा बताउँछ, र दुष्टता मेरो ओठको लागि घृणित कुरो हो ।
For truth uttereth my palate ever, and the abomination of my lips is wickedness.
8 मेरो मुखका सबै वचन न्यायपूर्ण छन् । तिनमा कुनै पनि बाङ्गोटिङ्गो छैन वा तिनले गलत मार्गमा लैजाँदैनन् ।
In righteousness are all the sayings of my mouth, there is in them nothing crooked or perverse.
9 बुझ्नेको व्यक्तिको लागि ती सबै सिधा छन् । ज्ञान पाउनेहरूका लागि मेरा वचनहरू उचित छन् ।
They are all evident to the man of understanding, and correct to those that have obtained knowledge.
10 चाँदीभन्दा मेरो निर्देशनलाई प्राप्त गर । निखुर सुनभन्दा मेरो ज्ञानलाई प्राप्त गर ।
Accept my correction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold.
11 किनकि बुद्धि रत्नहरूभन्दा बहुमूल्य हुन्छ । कुनै पनि खजाना यसको समान छैन ।
For wisdom is better than pearls; and all the things that men wish for are not equal to her.
12 म बुद्धि सावधानीसित बस्छु, र म ज्ञान र विवेक अधिकार गर्छु ।
I wisdom dwell with prudence, and the knowledge of discreet thoughts do I discover.
13 परमप्रभुको भय खराबीलाई घृणा गर्नु हो । म घमण्ड, अहङ्कार, दुष्ट मार्ग र भड्काउने बोलीवचनलाई घृणा गर्दछु । म तिनीहरूलाई घृणा गर्दछु ।
The fear of the Lord is to hate evil, pride and arrogance, and the evil way: and the mouth of perverseness do I hate.
14 मसित असल सरसल्लाह र पक्का बुद्धि छ । म अन्तर्दृष्टि हुँ । मसित सामर्थ्य छ ।
Mine are counsel and sound wisdom: I am understanding; mine is might.
15 मद्वारा नै राजाहरूले शासन गर्छन्, र शासकहरूले न्यायपूर्ण व्यवस्था बनाउँछन् ।
Through me do kings reign, and chieftains give decrees [in] righteousness.
16 मद्वारा नै राजकुमारहरू र कुलीनहरूले शासन गर्छन्, अनि सबैले न्यायसित शासन चलाउँछन् ।
Through me do princes rule, and the nobles, even all the judges of the earth.
17 मलाई प्रेम गर्नेहरूलाई म प्रेम गर्दछु, र मलाई परिश्रमसाथ खोज्नेहरूले मलाई भेट्टाउँछन् ।
I indeed love those that love me: and those that seek me earnestly shall find me.
18 मसित रुपियाँ-पैसा र इज्जत, टिकिरहने धन-सम्पत्ति र धार्मिकता छन् ।
Riches and honor are with me, yea, enduring wealth and righteousness.
19 मेरो फल सुनभन्दा अर्थात् निखुर सुनभन्दा श्रेष्ठ छ । मेरो उत्पादन निखुर चाँदीभन्दा श्रेष्ठ छ ।
My fruit is better than gold, and than fine gold; and my products, than choice silver.
20 म धार्मिकताको मार्गमा, न्यायका मार्गहरूका बिचमा हिँड्छु ।
On the road of righteousness do I walk firmly, in the midst the paths of justice:
21 परिणामस्वरूप, मलाई प्रेम गर्नेहरूलाई म धन-सम्पत्तिले सम्पन्न तुल्याउने छु । म तिनीहरूका ढुकुटीहरू भरिदिने छु ।
That I may cause those that love me to inherit a lasting possession; and their treasures will I fill
22 परमप्रभुले मलाई सुरुमा अर्थात् उहाँका सुरुका कार्यहरूभन्दा पहिले नै सृष्टि गर्नुभयो ।
The Lord created me as the beginning of his way, the first of his works from the commencement,
23 पृथ्वीको आरम्भदेखि नै युगौँ पहिले मलाई बनाइएको थियो ।
From eternity was I appointed chief, from the beginning, from the earliest times of the earth.
24 महासागरहरू हुनुभन्दा पहिले नै, पानीले भरिपूर्ण खोला-नालाहरू हुनुभन्दा पहिले नै मलाई जन्म दिइयो ।
When there were yet no depths, was I brought forth; when there were yet no springs laden heavily with water.
25 पहाडहरू स्थापित गरिनुअगि, डाँडाहरू बनाइनुअगि म जन्मेको थिएँ ।
Before the mountains were yet sunk down, before the hills was I brought forth:
26 परमप्रभुले पृथ्वी वा जमिनहरू वा संसारको पहिलो धुलो बनाउनुअगि म जन्मेको थिएँ ।
While as yet he had not made the land and open fields, nor the chief of the dust of the world.
27 उहाँले आकाशहरू स्थापित गर्नुहुँदा, महासागरको सतहमा घेरा लगाउनुहुँदा म त्यहाँ थिएँ ।
When he prepared the heavens, I was there; when he drew a circle over the face of the deep;
28 उहाँले माथि बादलहरू स्थापित गर्नुहुँदा र महासागरका मूलहरूलाई तिनीहरूका स्थानमा बसाल्नुहुँदा म त्यहाँ थिएँ ।
When he fastened the skies above; when the springs of the deep became strong;
29 उहाँको आज्ञाविना पानी आफ्नो सिमानाभन्दा बाहिर नजाओस् भन्नाका लागि उहाँले समुद्रको सिमा तोकिदिनुहुँदा र सुक्खा भूमिका जगहरू बसाल्नुहुँदा म त्यहाँ थिएँ ।
When he assigned to the sea his decree, that the waters should not transgress his order: when he established firmly the foundations of the earth:
30 एउटा सिपालु कारीगरझैँ म उहाँको छेउमा थिएँ । दिनप्रति दिन म उहाँको आनन्द भएँ र सधैँभरि उहाँको सामु आनन्दित हुन्थेँ ।
Then was I near him, as a nursling: and I was day by day [his] delights, playing before him at all times;
31 म उहाँको सारा संसारमा रमाउँदै थिएँ, र मानव-जातिका छोराहरूमा मेरो आनन्द थियो ।
Playing in the world, his earth; and having my delights with the sons of men.
32 अब हे मेरा छोराहरू हो, मेरो कुरा सुन, किनकि मेरा मार्गहरूमा हिँड्ने आशिषित् हुने छन् ।
And now, O children [of men], hearken unto me! for happy those that observe my ways.
33 मेरो निर्देशनलाई सुनेर बुद्धिमान् होओ । यसलाई बेवास्ता नगर ।
Hear correction, and be wise, and reject it not.
34 मेरो कुरा सुन्ने जन आशिषित् हुने छ । मेरा ढोकाहरूको चौकोसनेर प्रतीक्षा गर्दै उसले हरेक दिन मेरा ढोकाहरूमा हेर्ने छ ।
Happy is the man that hearkeneth unto me, watching day by day at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.
35 किनकि मलाई भेट्ने जोसुकैले पनि जीवन पाउँछ, र उसले परमप्रभुको निगाह पाउने छ ।
For he who findeth me findeth life, and he obtaineth favor from the Lord.
36 तर असफल हुनेले चाहिँ आफ्नै जीवनमा हानि ल्याउँछ । मलाई घृणा गर्ने सबैले मृत्युलाई प्रेम गर्छ ।”
But he that sinneth against me doth violence to his own soul: all those that hate me love death.
