हितोपदेश 3
1 हे मेरो छोरो, मेरा आज्ञाहरू नभुल्, र मेरा शिक्षाहरूलाई तेरो हृदयमा राख् ।
My son, mine instruction, do not thou forget, and, my commandment, let thy heart observe;
2 किनकि तिनले तेरो आयु लामो बनाउने छन्, र शान्ति ल्याउने छन् ।
For, length of days and years of life, and blessedness, shall they add to thee.
3 करारको विश्वसनीयता र भरोसाले तँलाई कहिल्यै नछोडून् । तिनलाई तेरो गलाको वरिपरि सँगसँगै बाँध् । तिनलाई तेरो हृदयको पाटीमा लेख् ।
Lovingkindness and faithfulness, let them not forsake thee, —bind them, upon thy neck, write them upon the tablet of thy heart:
4 तब तैँले परमेश्वर र मानिसको दृष्टिमा निगाह पाउने छस्, र ख्याति कमाउने छस् ।
So find thou favour and good repute, in the eyes of God and man.
5 तेरो सारा हृदयले परमप्रभुमाथि भरोसा राख्, र तेरो आफ्नै समझशक्तिमा भर नपर् ।
Trust thou in Yahweh, with all thy heart, and, unto thine own understanding, do not lean:
6 तेरा सबै मार्गमा उहाँलाई उहाँलाई सम्झी र उहाँले तेरा मार्गहरू सोझा तुल्याउने हुनेछ ।
In all thy ways, acknowledge him, and, he, will make straight thy paths.
7 तेरो आफ्नै दृष्टिमा बुद्धिमान् नबन् । परमप्रभुको भय मान्, र खराबीबाट फर्की ।
Do not become wise in thine own eyes, revere Yahweh, and avoid evil:
8 यो तेरो शरीरको लागि चङ्गाइ हुने छ, र तेरो देहको लागि ताजापन हुने छ ।
Healing, shall it be to thy body, and refreshing, to thy bones.
9 तेरो धन-सम्पत्ति र तेरा सबै उब्जनीको अगौटे-फलले परमप्रभुको आदर गर् ।
Honour thou Yahweh, with thy substance, and with the firstfruit of all thine increase;
10 तब तेरा भन्डार कोठाहरू भरिने छन्, र तेरा भाँडाकुँडाहरू नयाँ दाखमद्यले चुलिएर पोखिने छन् ।
So shall thy storehouses be filled with plenty, and, with new wine, shall thy vats overflow.
11 हे मेरो छोरो, परमप्रभुको निर्देशनलाई तुच्छ नठान्, र उहाँको हप्कीलाई घृणा नगर् ।
The, chastening of Yahweh, my son, do not reject, nor loathe his rebuke;
12 किनकि परमप्रभुले प्रेम गर्नुहुनेहरूलाई नै उहाँले अनुशासनमा राख्नुहुन्छ, जस्तो बुबालाई खुसी पार्ने छोरोलाई बुबाले व्यवहार गर्छ ।
For, whom Yahweh loveth, he correcteth, he causeth pain to the son in whom he delighteth.
13 बुद्धि प्राप्त गर्ने धन्यको हो । त्यसले समझशक्ति पनि पाउँछ ।
How happy the man who hath found wisdom, and the man who draweth forth understanding,
14 तैँले बुद्धिबाट प्राप्त गर्ने कुरो चाँदीबाट प्राप्त गर्ने कुरोभन्दा उत्तम हुन्छ, र यसको लाभ सुनभन्दा उत्तम हुन्छ ।
For better is her merchandise, than the merchandise of silver, yea, than gold, her increase;
15 बुद्धि गरगहनाभन्दा बहुमूल्य हुन्छ, र तैँले इच्छा गरेको कुनै पनि थोक त्यससित तुलना गर्न सकिँदैन ।
More precious, is she, than corals, yea, none of thy delightful things, doth equal her:
16 बुद्धिको दाहिने हातमा दीर्घायु हुन्छ भने त्यसको देब्रे हातमा धन-सम्पत्ति र मान हुन्छन् ।
Length of days, is in her right hand, in her left, are riches and honour;
17 त्यसको मार्ग दयाको मार्ग हो, र त्यसका सबै बाटा शान्तिका छन् ।
Her ways, are ways of pleasantness, and, all her paths, are peace;
18 बुद्धिलाई पक्रनेहरूका लागि त्यो जीवनको रुख हो, र त्यसलाई समात्नेहरू खुसी हुन्छन् ।
A tree of life, is she, to them who secure her, —and, they who hold her fast, are every one to be pronounced happy.
19 बुद्धिले नै परमप्रभुले पृथ्वी बनाउनुभयो र समझशक्तिले उहाँले आकाशहरू स्थापना गर्नुभयो ।
Yahweh, in wisdom, founded the earth, establishing the heavens with understanding;
20 उहाँको ज्ञानद्वारा गहिरा-गहिरा सागरहरू फुटेर निस्के, र बादलले तलतिर शीत झारे ।
By his knowledge, the resounding deeps were burst open, and, the skies, drop down dew.
21 हे मेरो छोरो, पक्का बुद्धि र समझशक्तिलाई जोगाइराख्, अनि तिनलाई तेरो नजरबाट जान नदे ।
My son, let them not depart from thine eyes, guard thou counsel, and purpose:
22 ती तेरो प्राणको निम्ति जीवन हुने छन्, र तेरो गलाको वरिपरि लगाउने स्नेहको गहना हुने छन् ।
So shall they become life to thy soul, and an adorning to thy neck;
23 तब तँ आफ्नो मार्गमा सुरक्षितसाथ हिँड्ने छस्, र तेरो खुट्टा ठोक्किने छैन ।
Then, shalt thou walk securely in thy way, and, thy foot, shall not stumble;
24 तँ पल्टँदा डराउने छैनस् । तँ पल्टँदा तँलाई मिठो निद्रा लाग्ने छ ।
When thou sittest down, thou shalt have no dread, yea thou shalt lie down, and sweet shall be thy sleep.
25 दुष्टहरूबाट अकस्मात् आउने त्रास वा विपत्तिदेखि नडरा ।
Be not thou afraid of sudden dread, nor of the desolation of the lawless, when it cometh.
26 किनकि परमप्रभु तेरो पक्षमा हुनुहुने छ, र उहाँले तेरो पाउलाई पासोमा पर्नदेखि जोगाउनुहुने छ ।
For, Yahweh, will be in all thy ways, and will keep thy foot from the snare.
27 तँ शक्तिमा रहुञ्जेलसम्म भलाइ गरिन योग्य भएकाहरूबाट त्यसलाई नरोक् ।
Withhold not good from them who ask it, when it is in power of thy hand to do it:
28 तँसित रुपियाँ-पैसा हुँदा आफ्नो छिमेकीलाई यसो नभन्, “जाऊ, र फेरि आऊ अनि म भोली दिने छु ।”
Do not say to thy neighbour, Go and come again, and to-morrow I will give, when thou hast it by thee.
29 तेरो नजिकै बस्ने र तँमाथि भर पर्ने आफ्नो छिमेकीको हानि गर्ने योजना नबना ।
Devise not against thy neighbour an injury, seeing that, he, dwelleth securely by thee.
30 तँलाई कसैले हानि नपुर्याउँदा विनाकारण त्यससित तर्क-वितर्क नगर् ।
Contend not with a man without cause, if he hath dealt thee no wrong.
31 हिंसात्मक व्यक्तिको ईर्ष्या नगर् वा त्यसको कुनै पनि मार्गलाई नछान् ।
Do not thou envy the man of violence, neither choose thou any of his ways;
32 किनकि कुटिल व्यक्ति परमप्रभुको लागि घृणित हुन्छ, तर सोझो व्यक्तिलाई उहाँले आफ्नो विश्वासमा ल्याउनुहुन्छ ।
For, an abomination to Yahweh, is the tortuous man, but, with the upright, he is intimate.
33 दुष्टहरूको घरमा परमप्रभुको सराप पर्छ, तर धर्मीहरूको घरमा उहाँको आशिष् पर्छ ।
The curse of Yahweh, is in the house of the lawless one, but, the home of the righteous, he blesseth.
34 उहाँले गिल्ला गर्नेहरूलाई गिल्ला गर्नुहुन्छ, तर विनम्र मानिसहरूलाई उहाँले आफ्नो स्नेह देखाउनुहुन्छ ।
Though at scoffers he scoffeth, yet, to the humbled, he granteth favour.
35 बुद्धिमान् मानिसहरू आदरको हकदार हुने छन्, तर मूर्खहरू तिनीहरूकै लाजमा पर्ने छन् ।
Honour, shall the wise inherit, —but, as for dullards, shame shall carry them away.
