< हितोपदेश 29 >

1 धेरै पटक हप्की पाएर पनि हठी हुने मानिस निको नहुने गरी एकै क्षणमा नष्‍ट हुने छ ।
He, that being often reproved hardens his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.
2 धर्मात्माहरूको वृद्धि हुँदा मानिसहरूले आनन्द मनाउँछन्, तर दुष्‍ट मानिस शासक बन्दा मानिसहरूले सुस्केरा हाल्छन् ।
When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked bears rule, the people mourn.
3 बुद्धिलाई प्रेम गर्नेले आफ्नो बुबालाई प्रसन्‍न तुल्याउँछ, तर वेश्याहरूको सङ्गत गर्नेले आफ्नो सम्पत्ति नष्‍ट पार्छ ।
Whoso loves wisdom rejoices his father: but he that keeps company with harlots spends his substance.
4 राजाले न्यायद्वारा देश सुदृढ बनाउँछ, तर घुस लिनले देशलाई तहसनहस पार्छ ।
The king by judgment establishes the land: but he that receives gifts overthrows it.
5 आफ्नो छिमेकीलाई फुर्क्याउनेले त्यसका खुट्टाका लागि जाल फिजाइरहेको हुन्छ ।
A man that flatters his neighbour spreads a net for his feet.
6 खराब मानिसको पापमा पासो हुन्छ, तर धर्मात्माले गाएर आनन्द मनाउँछ ।
In the transgression of an evil man there is a snare: but the righteous does sing and rejoice.
7 धर्मात्मालाई गरिबका अधिकारहरू थाहा हुन्छ, तर दुष्‍टले यस्तो ज्ञान बुझ्दैन ।
The righteous considers the cause of the poor: but the wicked regards not to know it.
8 खिल्ली उडाउनेहरूले सहरमा आगो लगाउँछन्, तर बुद्धिमान्‌हरूले क्रोधलाई पाखा लगाउँछ ।
Scornful men bring a city into a snare: but wise men turn away wrath.
9 बुद्धिमान् मानिसले मूर्खसित तर्क-वितर्क गर्दा मूर्खले रिस प्रकट गरेर गिल्ला गर्छ र त्यहाँ चैन हुँदैन ।
If a wise man contends with a foolish man, whether he rage or laugh, there is no rest.
10 रक्तपात गर्नेले खोटरहित मानिसलाई घृणा गर्छ, र सोझाहरूको ज्यान लिन खोज्छ ।
The bloodthirsty hate the upright: but the just seek his soul.
11 मूर्खले आफ्ना सबै रिस प्रकट गर्छ, तर बुद्धिमान् मानिसले त्यसलाई थामेर शान्त हुन्छ ।
A fool utters all his mind: but a wise man keeps it in till afterwards.
12 शासकले झुटो कुरोलाई ध्यान दियो भने त्यसका सबै कर्मचारी दुष्‍ट हुने छन् ।
If a ruler hearken to lies, all his servants are wicked.
13 गरिब र थिचोमिचो गर्ने मानिस उस्तै हुन्, किनकि परमप्रभुले नै दुवैका आँखामा दृष्‍टि दिनुहुन्छ ।
The poor and the deceitful man meet together: the LORD lightens both their eyes.
14 राजाले सत्यताद्वारा गरिबको न्याय गर्‍यो भने तिनको सिंहासन सदाको लागि स्थिर रहने छ ।
The king that faithfully judges the poor, his throne shall be established for ever.
15 लट्ठी र सुधारले बुद्धि दिन्छन्, तर अनुशासनविनाको बालकले आफ्नी आमालाई लाजमा पार्छ ।
The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself brings his mother to shame.
16 दुष्‍ट मानिसहरू शक्तिमा पुग्दा अधर्मको वृद्धि हुन्छ, तर धर्मी मानिसहरू ती दुष्‍ट मानिसहरूको पतन देख्‍ने छन् ।
When the wicked are multiplied, transgression increases: but the righteous shall see their fall.
17 आफ्नो छोरोलाई अनुशासनमा राख्, र त्यसले तैलाई चैन दिने छ; त्यसले तेरो जीवनमा आनन्द ल्याउने छ ।
Correct your son, and he shall give you rest; yea, he shall give delight unto your soul.
18 जहाँ अगमवाणीय दर्शन हुँदैन, त्यहाँ मानिसहरू भाँडिन्छन्, तर व्यवस्था पालन गर्नेचाहिँ धन्यको हो ।
Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keeps the law, happy is he.
19 कुराले मात्र नोकरलाई सुधार्न सकिँदैन, किनकि त्यसले बुझे तापनि त्यहाँ कुनै प्रतिक्रिया हुँदैन ।
A servant will not be corrected by words: for though he understand he will not answer.
20 के आफ्नो वचनमा हतारिएर बोल्ने मानिसलाई तँ देख्छस्? त्यसको लागि भन्दा त मूर्खको लागि बढी आशा हुन्छ ।
See you a man that is hasty in his words? there is more hope of a fool than of him.
21 जसले आफ्नो नोकरलाई आफ्नो बाल्यावस्थादेखि पुल्पुल्याउँछ, त्यसले अन्त्यमा कष्‍ट भोग्‍ने छ ।
He that delicately brings up his servant from a child shall have him become his son at the length.
22 रिसाएको मानिसले द्वन्द्व निम्त्याउँछ, र झोँकको मालिकले धेरै पाप गर्छ ।
An angry man stirs up strife, and a furious man abounds in transgression.
23 मानिसले घमण्डले त्यसलाई तल खसाल्छ, तर विनम्र आत्मा भएको मानिसलाई आदर दिइने छ ।
A man's pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.
24 चोरसित बाँडचुँड गर्नेले आफ्नै जीवनलाई घृणा गर्छ । त्यसले श्राप सुन्छ र केही भन्दैन ।
Whoso is partner with a thief hates his own soul: he hears cursing, and betrayed it not.
25 मानिसको डर पासोजस्तै हो, तर परमप्रभुमाथि भरोसा गर्नेचाहिँ सुरक्षित हुने छ ।
The fear of man brings a snare: but whoso puts his trust in the LORD shall be safe.
26 शासकको मुहार खोज्नेहरू धेरै छन्, तर मानिसको लागि न्याय परमप्रभुबाट नै आउँछ ।
Many seek the ruler's favour; but every man's judgment comes from the LORD.
27 अन्यायी मानिस धर्मात्माको लागि घृणित हुन्छ, र सोझो चाल भएको मानिस दुष्‍टको लागि घृणित हुन्छ ।
An unjust man is an abomination to the just: and he that is upright in the way is abomination to the wicked.
