हितोपदेश 28
1 कसैले नलखेट्दा पनि दुष्ट मानिसहरू भाग्छन्, तर धर्मी मानिसहरू जवान सिंहझैँ निर्भीक हुन्छन् ।
The wicked have fled and there is no pursuer. And the righteous as a young lion is confident.
2 देशको अधर्मको कारण त्यहाँ धेरै शासकहरू हुन्छन्, तर समझशक्ति र ज्ञान भएको मानिसले अमनचैन कायम राख्ने छ ।
By the transgression of a land many [are] its heads. And by an intelligent man, Who knoweth right — it is prolonged.
3 एउटा गरिब मानिसमाथि थिचोमिचो गर्ने अर्को गरिब मानिस अन्न सखाप पार्ने मुसलधारे वर्षाजस्तो हो ।
A man — poor and oppressing the weak, [Is] a sweeping rain, and there is no bread.
4 व्यवस्था त्याग्नेहरूले दुष्ट मानिसहरूको प्रशंसा गर्छन्, तर व्यवस्था पालन गर्नेहरू तिनीहरूको विरुद्धमा लड्छन् ।
Those forsaking the law praise the wicked, Those keeping the law plead against them.
5 खराब मानिसले न्यायलाई बुझ्दैन, तर परमप्रभुको खोजी गर्नेहरूले हरेक कुरो बुझ्दछ ।
Evil men understand not judgment, And those seeking Jehovah understand all.
6 आफ्ना मार्गहरूमा टेडो हुने धनी मानिसभन्दा आफ्नो निष्ठामा हिँड्ने गरिब मानिस उत्तम हुन्छ ।
Better [is] the poor walking in his integrity, Than the perverse of ways who is rich.
7 व्यवस्था पालन गर्ने छोरो समझदार हुन्छ, तर घिचावाको सङ्गत गर्नेले चाहिँ आफ्नो बुबालाई लज्जित तुल्याउँछ ।
Whoso is keeping the law is an intelligent son, And a friend of gluttons, Doth cause his father to blush.
8 धेरै ब्याज लगाएर आफ्नो सम्पत्ति बढाउने मानिसको धनलाई अर्कैले कुम्ल्याउँछ र त्यसले गरिबहरूमाथि दया देखाउँछ ।
Whoso is multiplying his wealth by biting and usury, For one favouring the poor doth gather it.
9 कसैले व्यवस्था सुन्नबाट आफ्नो कान तर्कायो भने त्यसको प्रार्थना पनि घृणित हुन्छ ।
Whoso is turning his ear from hearing the law, Even his prayer [is] an abomination.
10 सोझाहरूलाई खराब मार्गमा लैजाने जो कोही पनि आफूले खनेको खाल्डोमा जाकिने छ, तर खोटरहित मानिसले असल पैतृक-सम्पत्ति पाउने छ ।
Whoso is causing the upright to err in an evil way, Into his own pit he doth fall, And the perfect do inherit good.
11 धनी मानिस आफ्नै दृष्टिमा बुद्धिमान् होला, तर समझशक्ति भएको गरिब मानिसले त्यसलाई पत्ता लगाउने छ ।
A rich man is wise in his own eyes, And the intelligent poor searcheth him.
12 धर्मीहरू विजय हुँदा ठुलो महिमा हुन्छ, तर दुष्टहरूको उदय हुँदा मानिसहरू लुक्न थाल्छन् ।
In the exulting of the righteous the glory [is] abundant, And in the rising of the wicked man is apprehensive.
13 आफ्ना पापहरू लुकाउनेको उन्नति हुने छैन, तर तिनलाई स्वीकार गरी त्याग्नेलाई कृपा देखाइने छ ।
Whoso is covering his transgressions prospereth not, And he who is confessing and forsaking hath mercy.
14 सधैँ आदरसाथ जिउने आशिषित् हुने छ, तर आफ्नो हृदयलाई कठोर बनाउनेचाहिँ कष्टमा पर्ने छ ।
O the happiness of a man fearing continually, And whoso is hardening his heart falleth into evil.
15 गर्जने सिंह वा झम्टने भालुझैँ मानिसहरूमाथि शासन गर्ने दुष्ट शासक हुन्छ ।
A growling lion, and a ranging bear, [Is] the wicked ruler over a poor people.
16 समझशक्ति कमी भएको शासक क्रुर हुन्छ, तर बेइमानीलाई घृणा गर्नेचाहिँको आयु लामो हुन्छ ।
A leader lacking understanding multiplieth oppressions, Whoso is hating dishonest gain prolongeth days.
17 कसैको रगत बगाएकोले मानिस दोषी छ भने त्यसको मृत्यु नभएसम्म त्यो भगुवा हुने छ र कसैले त्यसलाई सहायता गर्ने छैन ।
A man oppressed with the blood of a soul, Unto the pit fleeth, none taketh hold on him.
18 निष्ठासहित हिँड्ने सुरक्षित हुने छ, तर टेडो चाल भएको मानिस अकस्मात् पतन हुने छ ।
Whoso is walking uprightly is saved, And the perverted of ways falleth at once.
19 आफ्नो खेतबारी खनजोत गर्नेको प्रशस्त अन्न हुने छ, तर बेकम्मा कोसिसको पछि लाग्नेचाहिँ दरिद्रताले भरिने छ ।
Whoso is tilling his ground is satisfied [with] bread, And whoso is pursuing vanity, Is filled [with] poverty.
20 विश्वासयोग्य मानिसले धेरै आशिष्हरू पाउने छ, तर झट्टै धनी हुनेचाहिँ दण्डविना उम्कने छैन ।
A stedfast man hath multiplied blessings, And whoso is hasting to be rich is not acquitted.
21 पक्षपात गर्नु राम्रो होइन, तरै पनि एक टुक्रा रोटीको लागि मानिसले गलत काम गर्छ ।
To discern faces is not good, And for a piece of bread doth a man transgress.
22 कन्जुस मानिस धनको पछि लाग्छ, तर दरिद्रता त्यसमाथि आइपर्ने छ भनी त्यसलाई थाहै हुँदैन ।
Troubled for wealth [is] the man [with] an evil eye, And he knoweth not that want doth meet him.
23 फुर्क्याउने जिब्रो भएकोले भन्दा अनुशासनमा राख्नेले नै पछि बढी निगाह पाउँछ ।
Whoso is reproving a man afterwards findeth grace, More than a flatterer with the tongue.
24 आफ्ना बुबा र आमालाई लुटेर “त्यो पाप होइन” भनी बताउने मानिस बर्बादी ल्याउनेको मित्र हुन्छ ।
Whoso is robbing his father, or his mother, And is saying, 'It is not transgression,' A companion he is to a destroyer.
25 लोभी मानिसले द्वन्द्व निम्त्याउँछ, तर परमप्रभुमा भरोसा गर्नेको उन्नति हुने छ ।
Whoso is proud in soul stirreth up contention, And whoso is trusting on Jehovah is made fat.
26 आफ्नै हृदयमा भरोसा गर्ने मानिस मूर्ख हो, तर बुद्धिमा चल्नेचाहिँ खतराबाट टाढै बस्छ ।
Whoso is trusting in his heart is a fool, And whoso is walking in wisdom is delivered.
27 गरिबलाई दिनेलाई कुनै कुराको अभाव हुँदैन, तर तिनीहरूप्रति आँखा चिम्लनेले धेरै श्राप पाउने छ ।
Whoso is giving to the poor hath no lack, And whoso is hiding his eyes multiplied curses.
28 दुष्टहरूको उदय हुँदा मानिसहरू लुक्छन्, तर तिनीहरू नष्ट हुँदा धर्मीहरूको वृद्धि हुन्छ ।
In the rising of the wicked a man is hidden, And in their destruction the righteous multiply!
