हितोपदेश 26
1 ग्रिष्म ऋतुमा हिउँ वा फसलको समयमा झरी परेझैँ मूर्ख आदरको योग्य हुँदन ।
Honoring someone stupid is as inappropriate as snow in the summer or rain during harvest.
2 भुर्र उड्ने भँगेरो र हानिएर जाने गौँथलीझैँ कारणविनाको श्राप पनि लाग्दैन ।
A curse that isn't deserved won't land on the person, like a fluttering sparrow or a flitting swallow.
3 कोर्रा घोडाको लागि हो; लगाम गधाको लागि हो र लट्ठी मूर्खहरूको पिठिउँको लागि हो ।
Horses need a whip, donkeys need a bridle, and stupid people need a rod on their backs!
4 मूर्खलाई त्यसको मूर्खताअनुसार जवाफ नदे, नत्रता तँ त्योजस्तै हुने छस् ।
Don't answer stupid people following their stupidity, or you'll become as bad as them.
5 मूर्खलाई जवाफ दे र त्यसको मूर्खतामा मिल् ताकि त्यो त्यसको आफ्नै दृष्टिमा बुद्धिमान् नहोस् ।

6 मूर्खको हातमा सन्देश पठाउने मानिसले आफ्नै खुट्टामा बन्चरो हानेर हिंसा पिउँछ ।

7 पक्षाघातीका झुण्डिएका खुट्टाहरूझैँ मूर्खको मुखमा भएको हितोपदेश हुन्छ ।

8 मूर्खलाई आदन दिनु घुयेँत्रोमा ढुङ्गा बाँध्नुजस्तै हो ।

10 मूर्ख वा बटुवालाई ज्यालामा काम लगाउनु धनुर्धारीले त्यसको वरिपरि भएका सबैलाई काँड हानी चोट पुर्याउनुजस्तै हो ।

11 जसरी कुकुर आफ्नै बान्तामा फर्केर आउँछ, त्यसै गरी मूर्खले आफ्नो मूर्खता दोहोर्याउँछ ।

13 अल्छे मानिसले भन्छ, “सडकमा सिंह छ । खुला ठाउँहरूका बिचमा सिंह छ ।”

14 ढोका आफ्नो कब्जामा यताउता हल्लेझैँ अल्छे मानिस आफ्नो खाटमा पल्टन्छ ।
A lazy person turns in bed like a door turns on its hinge.
15 अल्छे मानिसले आफ्नो हात थालमा गाड्छ, र त्यसलाई आफ्नो मुखसम्म पुर्याउन पनि त्योसित शक्ति हुँदैन ।
Lazy people put their hands in a dish, but are too tired to lift the food to their mouths.
16 सही न्यायसहित प्रतिक्रिया दिने सात जना मानिसभन्दा अल्छे मानिस त्यसको आफ्नै दृष्टिमा बुद्धिमान् हुन्छ ।
In their own eyes lazy people are wiser than many sensible advisors.
17 कुकुरको कान समात्ने मानिस आफूसित सम्बन्धित नभएको झगडामा रिसाउने बटुवाजस्तै हो ।
Interfering in someone else's quarrel is like grabbing a stray dog by the ears.
18 त्यो घातक काँड हान्ने बौलाहा मानिसजस्तो हो,
You're like a crazy person firing off blazing arrows and killing people
19 जसले आफ्नो छिमेकीलाई धोका दिइसकेपछि भन्छ, “के मैले ठट्टा गर्दै थिइनँ र?”
if you lie to your friend and then say, “I was only joking!”
20 दाउराको कमीले आगो निभ्छ, र जहाँ कुरौटो हुँदैन त्यहाँ झगडाको अन्त्य हुन्छ ।
Without wood, the fire goes out; and without gossips, arguments stop.
21 जसरी भुङ्ग्रोको लागि कोइला र आगोको लागि दाउरा हो, त्यसै गरी झगडालु मानिस कलह सल्काउनको लागि हो ।
An argumentative person fires up quarrels like putting charcoal on hot embers or wood on a fire.
22 कुरौटेका वचनहरू स्वादिष्ट गाँसजस्तै हुन्छन् । ती शरीरको भित्री भागसम्म प्रवेश गर्छन् ।
Listening to gossip is like gulping down bites of your favorite food—they go deep down inside you.
23 माटोको भाँडामा चल्काउने जलप लाएझैँ आघात पुर्याउने ओठ र दुष्ट हृदय हुन्छ ।
Smooth talking with evil intent is like a shiny lead glaze on an earthenware pot.
24 अरूहरूलाई घृणा गर्नेले आफ्नो ओठले आफ्ना भावना लुकाउँछ, तर भित्रपट्टि भने त्यसले छलछामलाई आश्रय दिन्छ ।
People say nice things to you even though they hate you; deep down they're just lying to you.
25 त्यसले अनुग्रही भएर बोले तपानि त्यसमाथि विश्वास नगर्, किनकि त्यसको हृदयमा सातवटा घृणित कुरा छन् ।
When people talk nicely to you, don't believe them—their minds are full of hate for you.
26 त्यसको घृणालाई छलले ढाकिएको भए तापनि त्यसको दुष्टता सभामा खुला हुने छ ।
Even though their hatred may be hidden by cunning tricks, their evil will be revealed to everyone.
27 खाडल खन्ने मानिस त्यसभित्र जाकिन्छ, र ढुङ्गा गुडाउने मानिसमा नै त्यो ढुङ्गा फर्केर आउने छ ।
Those who dig pits to trap others will fall in themselves, and those who start boulders rolling will be crushed themselves.
28 झुट बोल्ने जिब्रोले पीडामा परेकाहरूलाई घृणा गर्छ, र चापलुसी घस्ने मुखले विनाश ल्याउँछ ।
If you tell lies, you show you hate your victims; if you flatter people, you cause disaster.
