हितोपदेश 25
1 यी सोलोमनका थप हितोपदेश हुन् जसलाई यहूदाका राजा हिजकियाका मानिसहरूले प्रतिलिपि गरे ।
These are also proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah transcribed.
2 कुनै विषय गोप्य राख्नुमा परमेश्वरको महिमा हुन्छ, तर यसको खोजी गर्नु राजाहरूको महिमा हो ।
It is the glory of God to conceal a thing; but the glory of kings is to search out a thing.
3 जसरी आकाशहरू उचाइका लागि हुन्, र पृथ्वी गहिराइको लागि हो, त्यसै गरी राजाहरूको हृदय खोजी गर्न नसकिने खालको हुन्छ ।
The heavens for height, and the earth for depth, and the heart of kings is unsearchable.
4 चाँदीबाट कसर निकालिदे, र धातुको काम गर्नेले त्यसलाई चाँदीलाई आफ्नो शिल्पकृतिमा प्रयोग गर्न सक्छ ।
Take away the dross from the silver, and there cometh forth a vessel for the refiner:
5 त्यसै गरी, राजाको उपस्थितिबाट दुष्ट मानिसहरूलाई हटाइदे, र तिनको सिंहासन ठिक काम गरेर स्थापित हुने छ ।
take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.
6 राजाको उपस्थितिमा आफैलाई नउचाल्, र उच्च मानिसहरूलाई तोकिएको ठाउँमा नबस् ।
Put not thyself forward in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of the great;
7 उच्च मानिसहरूको सामु तेरो अपमान हुनुभन्दा त बरु तँलाई “यहाँ माथि आऊ” भन्नु उत्तम हुन्छ ।
for better it is that it be said unto thee, Come up hither, than that thou shouldest be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thine eyes see.
8 तैँले जे देखेको छस्, त्यसलाई झट्टै अदालतमा नलैजा । किनकि तेरो छिमेकीले तँलाई लाजमा पार्दा अन्त्यमा तँ के गर्ने छस्?
Go not forth hastily to strive, lest [thou know not] what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbour hath put thee to shame.
9 तेरो मुद्दालाई तँ र तेरो छिमेकीको बिचमा बहस गर्, र अर्कोको गुप्त कुरोलाई प्रकट नगर् ।
Debate thy cause with thy neighbour, but reveal not the secret of another;
10 नत्रता सुन्ने व्यक्तिले तँमाथि लाज र तेरो विषयमा भएको खराब प्रतिवेदन ल्याउने छ जसलाई चुप गराउन सकिँदैन ।
lest he that heareth [it] disgrace thee, and thine evil report turn not away.
11 ठिक अवस्थामा बोलिएको वचन चाँदीमा जडान गरिएको सुनका स्याउहरूजस्तै हुन्छन् ।
[As] apples of gold in pictures of silver, is a word spoken in season.
12 सुनको औँठी वा निखुर सुनबाट बनेको गहना सुन्ने कानको लागि बुद्धिमान् हप्कीझैँ हो ।
An ear-ring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, is a wise reprover upon an attentive ear.
13 कटनीको समयमा हिउँको शीतलझैँ विश्वासयोग्य दूत त्यसलाई पठाउनेहरूका लागि हुन्छ । त्यसले आफ्ना मालिकहरूको जीवन फर्काएर ल्याउँछ ।
As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, [so] is a faithful messenger to them that send him: for he refresheth the soul of his masters.
14 आफूले नदिएको उपहारबारे धाक लगाउने मानिस पानीविनाको बादल र बतासझैँ हुन्छ ।
Clouds and wind without rain, [so] is a man that boasteth himself of a false gift.
15 धैर्यताले शासकलाई पनि मनाउन सकिन्छ, र कोमल जिब्रोले हड्डीलाई गलाउन सक्छ ।
By long forbearing is a ruler persuaded, and a soft tongue breaketh the bone.
16 मह पाइस् भने चाहिँदो मात्रामा खा । नत्रता अत्यधिक खाइस् भने तैँले बान्ता गर्छस् ।
Hast thou found honey? Eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be surfeited therewith, and vomit it.
17 आफ्नो छिमेकीको घरमा अक्सर जाने नगर् । त्यो तँदेखि वाक्क भएर तँलाई घृणा गर्छ ।
Let thy foot be seldom in thy neighbour's house; lest he be weary of thee and hate thee.
18 आफ्नो छिमेकीको विरुद्धमा झुटो साक्षी दिने मानिस युद्धमा प्रयोग गरिने लट्ठी, तरवार वा तिखो काँडजस्तै हो ।
A maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow, is a man that beareth false witness against his neighbour.
19 तैँले कष्टको समयमा भरोसा गर्ने अविश्वासयोग्य मानिस दुःखेको दाँत वा चिप्लने खुट्टाजस्तै हो ।
A broken tooth, and a tottering foot, is confidence in an unfaithful [man] in the day of trouble.
20 जाडो मौसममा खास्टो खोसेर लैजाने मानिस वा सोडामा सिर्का खन्याएझैँ दुःखित हृदय भएकोलाई गीत गाउने मानिसझैँ हुन्छ ।
[As] he that taketh off a garment in cold weather, [and as] vinegar upon nitre, so is he that singeth songs to a sad heart.
21 तेरो शत्रु भोकाएको छ भने त्यसलाई खानलाई भोजन दे, र त्यो तिर्खाएको छ भने त्यसलाई पिउनलाई पानी दे ।
If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink:
22 किनकि त्यसो गर्नाले तैँले त्यसको टाउकोमा आगोको भुङ्ग्रो खन्याउने छस्, र परमप्रभुले तँलाई इनाम दिनुहुने छ ।
for thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and Jehovah shall reward thee.
23 जसरी उत्तरी बतासले पक्कै वृष्टि ल्याउँछ, त्यसै गरी गुप्त कुराहरू बताउने जिब्रोले क्रुद्ध अनुहार ल्याउँछ ।
The north wind bringeth forth rain, and the angry countenance a backbiting tongue.
24 झगडालु पत्नीसँग एउटै घरमा बस्नुभन्दा कौसीको कुनामा बस्नु बेस हुन्छ ।
It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a contentious woman, and a house in common.
25 तिर्खाएको मानिसलाई चिसो पानी जस्तो हुन्छ, टाढाको देशबाट आएको शुभ खबर त्यस्तै हुन्छ ।
[As] cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.
26 हिलोको फुहारा वा दूषित कुवाझैँ दुष्ट मानिसको सामु लर्खराउँदै हिँड्ने धर्मी मानिस हुन्छ ।
A troubled fountain, and a defiled well, is a righteous [man] that giveth way before the wicked.
27 अत्यधिक मह खानु राम्रो हुँदैन । त्यसो गर्नु भनेको मान-सम्मान खोजीरहनुजस्तै हो ।
It is not good to eat much honey; and to search into weighty matters is [itself] a weight.
28 आत्मसंयमविनाको मानिस दरार भएको वा पर्खालविनाको सहरजस्तै हो ।
He that hath no rule over his own spirit is [as] a city broken down, without walls.
