हितोपदेश 21
1 राजाको हृदय परमप्रभुको हातमा भएको खोलाजस्तो हो । उहाँलाई खुसी लागेअनुसार उहाँले त्यसलाई फर्काउनुहुन्छ ।
The king’s heart is a waterway in the hand of the LORD; He directs it where He pleases.
2 हरेक मानिसको बाटो त्यसको आफ्नै दृष्टिमा ठिक छ, तर परमप्रभुले नै हृदयको जाँच गर्नुहुन्छ ।
All a man’s ways seem right to him, but the LORD weighs the heart.
3 बलिदानभन्दा जे ठिक र न्यायसङ्गत छ, त्यही गर्नु परमप्रभुको लागि बढी ग्रहणयोग्य हुन्छ ।
To do righteousness and justice is more desirable to the LORD than sacrifice.
4 अहङ्कारी आँखा, घमण्डी हृदय र दुष्टको बत्ती पाप हुन् ।
Haughty eyes and a proud heart— the guides of the wicked—are sin.
5 परिश्रमीका योजनाहरूले केवल उन्नतितिर लैजान्छन्, तर हतार काम गर्नेचाहिँ केवल दरिद्रतामा पुग्छ ।
The plans of the diligent bring plenty, as surely as haste leads to poverty.
6 झुट बोलेर सम्पत्ति आर्जन गर्नु उडिजाने बाफ र मार्ने पासोजस्तै हो ।
Making a fortune by a lying tongue is a vanishing mist, a deadly pursuit.
7 दुष्टहरूको हिंसाले तिनीहरूलाई तानेर लैजान्छ, किनकि ठिक काम गर्न तिनीहरू इन्कार गर्छन् ।
The violence of the wicked will sweep them away because they refuse to do what is just.
8 दोषी मानिसको बाटो टेडो हुन्छ, तर निर्दोषले ठिक काम गर्छ ।
The way of a guilty man is crooked, but the conduct of the innocent is upright.
9 झगडालु पत्नीसित एउटै घरमा बस्नुभन्दा कौसीको कुनामा बस्नु बेस हुन्छ ।
Better to live on a corner of the roof than to share a house with a quarrelsome wife.
10 दुष्टको भोकले खराबीको लालसा गर्छ । त्यसको छिमेकीले त्यसको आँखामा निगाह देख्दैन ।
The soul of the wicked man craves evil; his neighbor finds no favor in his eyes.
11 खिल्ली गर्नेलाई दण्ड दिइँदा निर्बुद्धि बुद्धिमान् बन्छ, र बुद्धिमान् मानिसलाई अर्ती दिइँदा त्यसले ज्ञानलाई पक्रिराख्छ ।
When a mocker is punished, the simple gain wisdom; and when a wise man is instructed, he acquires knowledge.
12 धर्मात्माले दुष्ट मानिसको घरको निगरानी गर्छ । उहाँले दुष्ट मानिसहरूमाथि विपत्ति ल्याउनुहुन्छ ।
The Righteous One considers the house of the wicked and brings the wicked to ruin.
13 गरिबको पुकारामा कान थुन्नेले पुकारा गर्दा त्यसलाई जवाफ दिइने छैन ।
Whoever shuts his ears to the cry of the poor, he too shall cry out and receive no answer.
14 गुप्तमा दिइएको उपहारले रिस मारिदिन्छ, र लुकाएर दिइएको उपहारले बल्दो क्रोधलाई शान्त पारिदिन्छ ।
A gift in secret soothes anger, and a covert bribe pacifies great wrath.
15 न्याय कायम हुँदा यसले धर्मात्मामा आनन्द ल्याउँछ भने खराबी गर्नेहरूमा त्रास ल्याउँछ ।
Justice executed is a joy to the righteous, but a terror to the workers of iniquity.
16 समझशक्तिको मार्गबाट तर्कने मानिसले मरेकाहरूको सभामा विश्राम पाउने छ ।
The man who strays from the path of understanding will rest in the assembly of the dead.
17 मोजमज्जालाई प्रेम गर्ने गरिब हुनेछ । दाखमद्य र तेललाई प्रेम गर्ने धनी हुने छैन ।
He who loves pleasure will become poor; the one who loves wine and oil will never be rich.
18 दुष्ट मानिस धर्मी मानिसको लागि प्रायश्चित्त हुन्छ, र विश्वासघाती मानिस सोझो मानिसको लागि प्रायश्चित्त हुन्छ ।
The wicked become a ransom for the righteous, and the faithless for the upright.
19 झगडालु र रिसालु पत्नीसित बस्नुभन्दा उजाड्-स्थानमा बस्नु बेस हुन्छ ।
Better to live in the desert than with a contentious and ill-tempered wife.
20 इच्छा गरिएको खजाना र तेल बुद्धिमान्को बासस्थानमा हुन्छन्, तर मूर्खले यी सबै निलिदिन्छन् ।
Precious treasures and oil are in the dwelling of the wise, but a foolish man consumes them.
21 असल काम गर्ने र दयालु मानिसले जीवन, धार्मिकता र इज्जत पाउँछ ।
He who pursues righteousness and loving devotion finds life, righteousness, and honor.
22 बुद्धिमान् मानिसले शक्तिशाली योद्धाहरूको सहरको लेखाजोखा गर्छ, र तिनीहरूले भरोसा गरेको किल्लालाई भत्काइदिन्छ ।
A wise man scales the city of the mighty and pulls down the stronghold in which they trust.
23 आफ्नो मुख र जिब्रोको रखवाली गर्नेले आफैलाई कष्टबाट बचाउँछ ।
He who guards his mouth and tongue keeps his soul from distress.
24 घमण्डी र हठी मानिसको नाउँ “खिल्ली उडाउने” हो र त्यसले अभिमानीसाथ व्यवहार गर्छ ।
Mocker is the name of the proud and arrogant man— of him who acts with excessive pride.
25 अल्छेको इच्छाले त्यसलाई मार्छ, किनकि त्यसको हातले काम गर्न इन्कार गर्छ ।
The craving of the slacker kills him because his hands refuse to work.
26 दिनभरि त्यसले केवल लालसा गर्छ, तर धर्मात्माले मुट्ठी खोलेर दिन्छ ।
All day long he covets more, but the righteous give without restraint.
27 दुष्टको बलिदान घृणित हुन्छ । त्यसले खराब अभिप्राय लिएर ल्याउँदा यो झनै घृणित हुन्छ ।
The sacrifice of the wicked is detestable— how much more so when brought with ill intent!
28 झुटो साक्षी नष्ट हुने छ, तर ध्यान दिएर सुन्नेले बोलिरहने छ ।
A lying witness will perish, but the man who listens to truth will speak forever.
29 दुष्ट मानिस हठी हुन्छ, तर सोझो मानिस आफ्ना मार्गहरूबारे निश्चित हुन्छ ।
A wicked man hardens his face, but the upright man makes his way sure.
30 यस्तो कुनै बुद्धि, समझशक्ति र सरसल्लाह छैन जुन परमप्रभुको विरुद्धमा खडा हुन सक्छ ।
There is no wisdom, no understanding, no counsel that can prevail against the LORD.
31 घोडा युद्धको लागि तयार पारिन्छ, तर विजयचाहिँ परमप्रभुकै हो ।
A horse is prepared for the day of battle, but victory is of the LORD.
