हितोपदेश 19
1 बोलीवचनमा कुटिल भई मूर्ख हुनुभन्दा आफ्नो सत्यनिष्ठामा हिँड्ने गरिब मानिस उत्तम हो ।
Better is the poor who walks in his simplicity, than the rich who twists his lips and is unwise.
2 ज्ञानविनाको इच्छा राम्रो हुँदैन, र हतार गर्नेले बाटो बिराउँछ ।
Where there is no knowledge of the soul, there is no good. And whoever hurries with his feet will stumble.
3 मान्छेको मूर्खताले त्यसको जीवन बर्बाद पार्छ, र त्यसको हृदय परमप्रभुको विरुद्धमा क्रोधित हुन्छ ।
The foolishness of a man undermines his steps. And then he seethes in his soul against God.
4 धनले धेरै मित्रहरू बनाउँछ, तर गरिब मानिसचाहिँ आफ्ना मित्रहरूबाट त्यागिन्छ ।
Riches add many friends. But from the pauper, even those whom he had become separated.
5 झुटो साक्षी दण्डविना उम्कने छैन, र झुटो कुरो बोल्ने फुत्कने छैन ।
A false witness shall not go unpunished. And whoever speaks lies will not escape.
6 धेरैले उदार मानिसबाट निगाहको लागि बिन्ति गर्ने छन्, र हरेक व्यक्ति उपहार दिनेको मित्र बन्छ ।
Many honor the character of one who is powerful, and there are friends for a giver of gifts.
7 गरिब मानिसका सबै दाजुभाइले त्यसलाई घृणा गर्छन् भने, त्यसका टाढा जाने मित्रहरूले त झन् कति धेरै त्यसलाई त्याग्लान्! त्यसले तिनीहरूलाई बोलाउँछन्, तर तिनीहरू गइसकेका हुन्छन् ।
The brothers of the poor man hate him. Moreover, even his friends have withdrawn far from him. Whoever pursues only words shall have nothing.
8 बुद्धि प्राप्त गर्नेले आफ्नो जीवनलाई प्रेम गर्छ । समझशक्तिलाई जोगाउनेले जे असल छ, त्यो पाउने छ ।
But whoever possesses reason loves his own soul. And one who guards prudence shall discover good things.
9 झुटो साक्षी दण्डविना उम्कने छैन, तर झुटो कुरो बोल्नेचाहिँ नष्ट हुने छ ।
A false witness shall not go unpunished. And whoever speaks lies will perish.
10 मूर्खलाई भोग-विलासमा जिउनु सुहाउँदैन भने कमाराले राजकुमारहरूमाथि शासन चलाउनु झन् कति नराम्रो हो!
Fine things are not fitting for the foolish, nor is it fitting for a servant to rule over princes.
11 विवेकले मानिसलाई रिसाउन धिमा बनाउँछ, र चित्त दुखाइलाई बेवास्ता गर्नु त्यसको महिमा हो ।
The doctrine of a man is known through patience. And his glory is to pass beyond iniquities.
12 राजाको क्रोध जवान सिंहको गर्जनजस्तै हुन्छ, तर तिनको निगाह घाँसमाथिको शीतजस्तै हुन्छ ।
Like the roaring of a lion, so also is the wrath of a king. And his cheerfulness is like the dew upon the grass.
13 मूर्ख छोरो त्यसको बुबाको लागि विनाश हो, र झगडा गर्ने पत्नीचाहिँ नित्य परिरहने तपतपे झरीजस्तै हो ।
A foolish son is the grief of his father. And an argumentative wife is like a roof that is continually leaking.
14 घर र धन-सम्पत्ति बुबाआमाबाट आएका हुन्छन्, तर विवेकी पत्नीचाहिँ परमप्रभुबाट आउँछ ।
A house and its riches are given by parents. But a prudent wife is particularly from the Lord.
15 अल्छीपनले मानिसलाई घोर निद्रामा पुर्याउँछ, र काम गर्न अनिच्छुकचाहिँ भोकभोकै हुने छ ।
Laziness sends one into a deep sleep, and a dissolute soul will go hungry.
16 आज्ञा पालन गर्नेले त्यसको जीवनको रखवाली गर्छ, तर आफ्ना मार्गहरूबारे नसोच्नेचाहिँ मर्ने छ ।
Whoever guards a commandment guards his own soul. But whoever neglects his own way will die.
17 गरिबप्रति दयालु हुनेले परमप्रभुलाई सापट दिन्छ, र उहाँले त्यसले गरेको कामको प्रतिफल दिनुहुने छ ।
Whoever is merciful to the poor lends to the Lord. And he will repay him for his efforts.
18 आशा बाँकी छँदै आफ्नो छोरोलाई अनुशासनमा राख, र त्यसलाई मृत्युण्ड दिने इच्छा नबना ।
Teach your son; do not despair. But do not set your soul toward putting him to death.
19 गरम मिजास भएको मानिसले जरिवाना तिर्नैपर्छ । त्यसलाई छुटकारा दिइस् भने तैँले दोस्रो पटक त्यसै गर्नुपर्ने हुन्छ ।
Whoever is impatient will sustain damage. And when it has been taken away, he will set up another.
20 सरसल्लाह सुन् र अर्तीलाई स्वीकार गर्, ताकि तेरो जीवनको अन्त्यसम्ममा तँ बुद्धिमान् बन्न सक्छस् ।
Listen to counsel and take up discipline, so that you may be wise in your latter days.
21 मानिसको हृदयमा धेरै योजनाहरू हुन्छन्, तर परमप्रभुको उद्धेश्य नै स्थिर रहने छ ।
There are many intentions in the heart of a man. But the will of the Lord shall stand firm.
22 मानिसले भक्तिको चाह गर्छ, र झुटो बोल्नेभन्दा त गरिब मानिस उत्तम हो ।
An indigent man is merciful. And a pauper is better than a deceitful man.
23 परमप्रभुप्रतिको आदरले मानिसहरूलाई जीवनमा डोर्याउँछ । यो हुने कुनै पनि व्यक्ति सन्तुष्ट हुने छ, र त्यसलाई नोक्सानीले छुँदैन ।
The fear of the Lord is unto life. And he shall linger in plentitude, without being visited by disaster.
24 अल्छेले आफ्नो हात थालमा गाड्छ, र त्यसलाई आफ्नो मुखसम्म पनि ल्याउँदैन ।
The lazy conceals his hand under his arm, and he will not so much as bring it to his mouth.
25 गिल्ला गर्नेलाई हिर्का, र निर्बुद्धि मानिस विवेकी बन्ने छ । समझदार मानिसलाई अनुशासनमा राख्, र त्यसले ज्ञान प्राप्त गर्ने छ ।
When the pestilent are scourged, the foolish will become wiser. But if you chastise the wise, he will understand discipline.
26 आफ्नो बुबालाई लुट्ने र आफ्नी आमालाई लखेट्ने छोरोले लाज र बेइज्जत ल्याउँछ ।
Whoever afflicts his father and flees from his mother is disreputable and unhappy.
27 हे मेरो छोरो, तैँले अर्ती सुन्न छाडिस् भने तँ ज्ञानका वचनहरूबाट बहकिने छस् ।
Son, do not cease listening to doctrine, and do not be ignorant of the sermons of knowledge.
28 भ्रष्ट साक्षीले न्यायको खिल्ली उडाउँछ, र दुष्टको मुखले अधर्मलाई निलिदिन्छ ।
An unjust witness ridicules judgment. And the mouth of the impious devours iniquity.
29 गिल्ला गर्नेहरूका लागि दण्डाज्ञा र मूर्खहरूको पिठिउँको लागि कोर्रा तयार छ ।
Judgments are prepared for those who ridicule. And striking hammers are prepared for the bodies of the foolish.
