हितोपदेश 14
1 बुद्धिमान् स्त्रीले आफ्नो घर बनाउँछे, तर मूर्ख स्त्रीले आफ्नै हातले त्यो भत्काउँछे ।
The wisdom of women buildeth their house; but folly plucketh it down with her hands.
2 सोझो भएर हिँड्नेले परमप्रभुको भय मान्छ, तर आफ्ना चालहरूमा बेइमान व्यक्तिले उहाँलाई तुच्छ ठान्छ ।
He that walketh in his uprightness feareth Jehovah; but he that is perverted in his ways despiseth him.
3 मूर्खको मुखबाट त्यसको मूर्खताको हाँगा निस्कन्छ, तर बुद्धिमान्को ओठले त्यसको रक्षा गर्छ ।
In the fool's mouth is a rod of pride; but the lips of the wise shall preserve them.
4 गाईवस्तु नभएको ठाउँमा भकारी खाली हुन्छ, तर गोरुको बलद्वारा प्रशस्त फसलको कटनी हुन सक्छ ।
Where no oxen are, the crib is clean; but much increase is by the strength of the ox.
5 विश्वासयोग्य साक्षीले झुट बोल्दैन, तर झुटो साक्षीले झुटा कुराहरू निकाल्छ ।
A faithful witness will not lie; but a false witness uttereth lies.
6 गिल्ला गर्नेले बुद्धिको खोजी गर्छ, तर पाउँदैन, जब कि समझदार व्यक्तिलाई ज्ञान सजिलैसित आउँछ ।
A scorner seeketh wisdom, and there is none [for him]; but knowledge is easy unto the intelligent.
7 मूर्ख मानिसबाट टाढै बस, किनकि तिमीले त्यसको ओठमा ज्ञान पाउने छैनौ ।
Go from the presence of a foolish man, in whom thou perceivest not the lips of knowledge.
8 समझदार मानिसको बुद्धि उसको आफ्नै मार्ग बुझ्नको लागि हो, तर मूर्खहरूको मूर्खता छल हो ।
The wisdom of the prudent is to discern his way; but the folly of the foolish is deceit.
9 दोषबलि चढाइँदा मूर्खहरूले गिल्ला गर्छन्, तर सोझाहरूका बिचमा स्नेह बाँडचुँड गरिन्छ ।
Fools make a mock at trespass; but for the upright there is favour.
10 हृदयले यसको आफ्नै तिक्तता जान्दछ, र कुनै पनि परदेशीले यसको आनन्द बाँडचुँड गर्दैन ।
The heart knoweth its own bitterness, and a stranger doth not intermeddle with its joy.
11 दुष्ट मानिसहरूको घर नष्ट पारिने छ, तर धर्मी मानिसहरूको पालमा फलिफा हुने छ ।
The house of the wicked shall be overthrown; but the tent of the upright shall flourish.
12 कुनै बाटो मानिसलाई सोझोजस्तै लाग्ला, तर अन्त्यमा त्यसले मृत्युमा पुर्याउँछ ।
There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof is the ways of death.
13 हृदयमा हाँसो भए तापनि वेदना हुन सक्छ, र हर्षको अन्तचाहिँ शोकमा हुन सक्छ ।
Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful, and the end of mirth is sadness.
14 विश्वासयोग्य नभएको व्यक्तिले आफ्ना चालहरूको प्रतिफल भोग्ने छ, तर असल व्यक्तिले आफ्नो इनाम पाउने छ ।
The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways, and the good man from what is in himself.
15 बेवकूफ मानिसले हरेक कुरा पत्याउँछ, तर समझदार मानिसले आफ्ना चालहरूबारे विचार गर्छ ।
The simple believeth every word; but the prudent [man] heedeth his going.
16 बुद्धिमान् मानिस डराएर दुष्टताबाट टाढै बस्छ, तर मूर्खले निश्चयतासाथ चेताउनीलाई खारेज गरिदिन्छ ।
A wise [man] feareth and departeth from evil; but the foolish is overbearing and confident.
17 झट्ट रिसाउनेले मूर्ख कुराहरू गर्छ, र दुष्ट योजनाहरू रच्नेलाई घृणा गरिन्छ ।
He that is soon angry dealeth foolishly, and a man of mischievous devices is hated.
18 बेसमझ मानिसले मूर्खता कमाउँछ, तर समझदार मानिसले ज्ञानको मुकुट पहिरिन्छ ।
The simple inherit folly; but the prudent are crowned with knowledge.
19 खराब मानिसहरू असल मानिसहरूका सामु र दुष्ट मानिसहरू धर्मात्माका ढोकाहरूमा झुक्ने छन् ।
The evil bow before the good, and the wicked at the gates of the righteous [man].
20 आफ्नै मित्रहरूबाट समेत गरिब मानिसलाई घृणा गरिन्छ, तर धनी मानिसका धेरै साथीहरू हुन्छन् ।
He that is poor is hated even of his own neighbour; but the rich hath many friends.
21 आफ्नो छिमेकीलाई हेला गर्नेले पाप गरिरहेको हुन्छ, तर गरिबलाई स्नेह देखाउने आशिषित् हुन्छ ।
He that despiseth his neighbour sinneth; but he that is gracious to the afflicted, happy is he.
22 के खराब युक्ति रच्नेहरू बरालिँदैनन् र? तर असल गर्ने योजना बनाउनेहरूले करारको विश्वसनीयता र भरोसा प्राप्त गर्ने छन् ।
Do they not err that devise evil? but loving-kindness and truth are for those that devise good.
23 सबै कडा परिश्रमले लाभ ल्याउँछ, तर कुरा मात्र गर्नाले गरिबीमा पुर्याउँछ ।
In all labour there is profit; but the talk of the lips [tendeth] only to want.
24 बुद्धिमान् मानिसहरूको मुकुट तिनीहरूको सम्पत्ति हो, तर मूर्खहरूको मूर्खताले तिनीहरूमा झन् बढी मूर्खता ल्याउँछ ।
The crown of the wise is their riches; the folly of the foolish is folly.
25 विश्वासयोग्य साक्षीले जीवन बचाउँछ, तर झुटो साक्षीले झुटा कुराहरू ओकल्छ ।
A true witness delivereth souls; but deceit uttereth lies.
26 परमप्रभुको भय मान्नेसित बढी निश्चयता हुन्छ । त्यस मानिसको छोराछोरीका निम्ति यो सुरक्षाको एउटा बलियो स्थानझैँ हुने छ ।
In the fear of Jehovah is strong confidence, and his children shall have a place of refuge.
27 परमप्रभुको भय जीवनको फुहारा हो, जसद्वारा मानिस मृत्युका जालहरूबाट उम्कन्छ ।
The fear of Jehovah is a fountain of life, to turn away from the snares of death.
28 राजाको महिमा तिनका धेरै मानिसहरूको सङ्ख्यामा पाइन्छ, तर मानिसहरूविना राजकुमार नष्ट हुन्छ ।
In the multitude of people is the king's glory; but in the lack of people is the ruin of a prince.
29 धैर्यवान् मानिससित ठुलो समझशक्ति हुन्छ, तर गरम मिजासको मानिसले मूर्खतालाई उचाल्छ ।
He that is slow to anger is of great understanding; but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly.
30 शान्त हृदय शरीरको लागि जीवन हो, तर ईर्ष्याले हड्डीहरूलाई सडाउँछ ।
A sound heart is the life of the flesh; but envy the rottenness of the bones.
31 गरिबलाई थिचोमिचो गर्नेले आफ्नो सृष्टिकर्तालाई सराप्छ, तर खाँचोमा परेकाहरूलाई स्नेह देखाउनेले उहाँको आदर गर्छ ।
He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker; but he that honoureth Him is gracious to the needy.
32 आफ्ना खराब कामहरूद्वारा दुष्ट मानिस तल खसालिन्छ, तर धर्मात्माले मृत्युमा समेत आश्रय पाउँछ ।
The wicked is driven away by his evil-doing; but the righteous trusteth, [even] in his death.
33 बुद्धिले विवेकीको हृदयमा बास गर्छ, र मूर्खहरूका बिचमा समेत त्यसले आफूलाई चिनाउँछ ।
Wisdom resteth in the heart of the intelligent [man]; but that which is in the foolish maketh itself known.
34 धार्मिकताले देशलाई उचाल्छ, तर पाप कुनै पनि मानिसको लागि अपमानको कुरो हो ।
Righteousness exalteth a nation; but sin is a reproach to peoples.
35 समझदारसित काम गर्ने नोकरमाथि राजाको स्नेह हुन्छ, तर लाजमर्दो तरिकाले काम गर्नेमाथि तिनको रिस पर्छ ।
The king's favour is toward a wise servant; but his wrath is [against] him that causeth shame.
