हितोपदेश 12
1 अनुशासनलाई प्रेम गर्नेले ज्ञानलाई प्रेम गर्दछ, तर सुधारलाई घृणा गर्नेचाहिँ अबुझ हो ।
Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge. But whoever hates correction is unwise.
2 परमप्रभुले असल मानिसलाई स्नेह देखाउनुहुन्छ, तर दुष्ट योजनाहरू रच्ने मानिसलाई उहाँले दोषी ठहराउनुहुन्छ ।
Whoever is good shall draw grace from the Lord. But whoever trusts in his own thoughts acts impiously.
3 दुष्टताद्वारा मानिस स्थापित हुन सक्दैन, तर धर्मी मानिसहरूलाई जरैदेखि उखेल्न सकिँदैन ।
Man will not be made strong from impiety. And the root of the just shall not be moved.
4 चरित्रवान् पत्नी आफ्नो पतिको मुकुट हो, तर लाज ल्याउने पत्नीचाहिँ आफ्नो हड्डी सडाउने रोगजस्तै हो ।
A diligent woman is a crown to her husband. And she who acts with confusion as to which things are worthy is decay to his bones.
5 धर्मीका योजनाहरू न्यायपूर्ण हुन्छन्, तर दुष्टको सल्लाह छलपूर्ण हुन्छ ।
The thoughts of the just are judgments. And the counsels of the impious are dishonest.
6 दुष्ट मानिसका वचनहरू हत्या गर्ने मौकाको प्रतीक्षा गर्ने पासो हुन्, तर धर्मीहरूका वचनहरूले तिनीहरूलाई सुरक्षित राख्छन् ।
The words of the impious lie in wait for blood. The mouth of the just shall free them.
7 दुष्ट मानिसहरू फालिन्छन्, र तिनीहरू रहँदैनन्, तर धर्मी मानिसहरूको घर खड रहने छ ।
Turn from the impious, and they will not be. But the house of the just shall stand firm.
8 मानिसलाई त्यसको बुद्धिअनुसार प्रशंसा गरिन्छ, तर टेडो रोजाइ गर्नेचाहिँ तुच्छ ठानिन्छ ।
A man will be known by his doctrine. But whoever is vain and heartless will suffer contempt.
9 आफ्नो प्रतिष्ठाबारे घमण्ड गरेर भोजन नहुनुभन्दा बरु नोकर भएर महत्वहीन पदमा बस्नु बेस हो ।
Better is a pauper who has what he needs, than someone glorious and in need of bread.
10 धर्मात्माले आफ्नो पशुका आवश्यकताहरूको वास्ता गर्छ, तर दुष्टको दया पनि क्रुर हुन्छ ।
The just one knows the lives of his beasts. But the inner most parts of the impious are cruel.
11 आफ्नो खेतबारी खनजोत गर्नेले प्रशस्त अन्न उब्जाउने छ, तर बेकामको कामको पछि कुद्नेचाहिँ बेसमझको हुन्छ ।
Whoever works his land shall be satisfied with bread. But whoever continually pursues leisure is most foolish. Whoever is soothed by lingering over wine leaves behind contempt in his strongholds.
12 दुष्टले खराब मानिसहरूले अरूबाट चोरेको वस्तुको इच्छा गर्छ, तर धर्मी मानिसहरूको फल तिनीहरू आफैबाट आउँछ ।
The desire of the impious is the fortification of what is most wicked. But the root of the just shall prosper.
13 दुष्ट व्यक्ति त्यसकै खराब बोलीवचनबाट पासोमा पर्छ, तर धर्मी व्यक्तिचाहिँ सङ्कष्टबाट उम्कन्छ ।
For the sins of the lips draw ruin to the evil. But the just shall escape from distress.
14 जसरी आफ्नो हातको कामले मानिसलाई इनाम दिन्छ, त्यसै गरी आफ्नै वचनको फलबाट ऊ असल थोकहरूले भरिन्छ ।
By the fruit of his own mouth, each one shall be filled with good things, and according to the works of his own hands, it will be distributed to him.
15 मूर्खको बाटो त्यसको आफ्नै दृष्टिमा ठिक हुन्छ, तर बुद्धिमान् मानिसले सरसल्लाह सुन्छ ।
The way of the foolish is right in his own eyes. But whoever is wise listens to counsels.
16 मूर्खले आफ्नो रिस तुरुन्तै देखाउँछ, तर अपमानलाई बेवास्ता गर्नेचाहिँ विवेकी मानिस हो ।
The senseless immediately reveals his anger. But whoever ignores injuries is clever.
17 सत्य बोल्नेले ठिक कुरा बोल्छ, तर झुटो साक्षीले झुटो कुरा बोल्छ ।
He is a sign of justice, who speaks what he knows. But whoever deceives is a dishonest witness.
18 असावधानसाथ बोल्नेका वचनहरू तरवारको घोचाइझैँ हुन्छन्, तर बुद्धिमान्को बोलीले चङ्गाइ ल्याउँछ ।
He who makes promises is also jabbed, as if with a sword, in conscience. But the tongue of the wise is reasonable.
19 सत्य बोल्ने ओठ सधैँभरि रहिरहन्छ, तर झुट बोल्ने जिब्रो केही क्षण मात्र टिक्छ ।
The lips of truth shall be steadfast forever. But a hasty witness readies a lying tongue.
20 खराबी गर्ने योजना बनाउनेहरूको हृदयमा छल हुन्छ, तर शान्तिका परामर्शदाताहरूमा आनन्द आउँछ ।
Deceit is in the heart of those who devise evils. But gladness follows those who take up counsels of peace.
21 धर्मात्मामाथि कुनै हानि आइपर्दैन, तर दुष्टचाहिँ कठिनाइहरूले भरिएको हुन्छ ।
Whatever may befall the just, it will not discourage him. But the impious will be filled with disasters.
22 परमप्रभुले झुट बोल्ने ओठलाई घृणा गर्नुहुन्छ, तर विश्वासयोग्यसाथ जिउनेहरू उहाँका आनन्द हुन् ।
Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord. But whoever acts faithfully pleases him.
23 विवेकशील मानिसले आफ्नो ज्ञान लुकाएर राख्छ, तर मूर्खहरूको हृदयले मूर्खता प्रकट गर्छ ।
A resourceful man conceals knowledge. And the heart of the unwise provokes foolishness.
24 परिश्रमीको हातले शासन गर्ने छ, तर अल्छे मानिसलाई जबरजस्ती काम लगाइने छ ।
The hand of the strong will rule. But anyone who is neglectful will pay tribute.
25 मानिसको हृदयमा भएको चिन्ताले उसलाई कमजोर तुल्याउँछ, तर असल वचनले उसलाई प्रसन्न पार्छ ।
Grief in the heart of a man humbles him. And with a good word he shall be made glad.
26 धर्मात्मा उसको मित्रको लागि पथ-प्रदर्शक हो, तर दुष्टहरूको चालले तिनीहरूलाई बरालिदिन्छ ।
He who ignores a loss for the sake of a friend is just. But the way of the impious will deceive them.
27 अल्छे मानिसले आफ्नो सिकार फेला पार्दैन, तर परिश्रमी मानिसले बहुमूल्य सम्पत्ति पाउने छ ।
The dishonest will not discover gain. But the substance of a man will be like precious gold.
28 ठिक मार्गमा हिँड्नेहरूले जीवन पाउने छ, र त्यस मार्गमा मृत्यु हुँदैन ।
In the path of justice, there is life. But the devious way leads to death.
