यहोशू 9
1 त्यसपछि यर्दन पारिको पहाडी देशहरू र लेबनानपट्टि महासमुद्रको किनारका मैदानहरूमा हित्तीहरू, एमोरीहरू, कनानीहरू, परिज्जीहरू, हिव्वीहरू र यबूसीहरू बस्थे ।
And it came to pass, when all the kings that were on this side of the Jordan, in the mountain, and in the lowlands, and in all the coast of the great sea opposite Lebanon, the Hittites, and the Emorites, the Canaanites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, heard this,
2 यिनीहरू यहोशू र इस्राएलविरुद्ध युद्ध गर्न एउटै समूहमा सहभागी भए ।
That they assembled themselves all together, to fight with Joshua and with Israel, with one accord.
3 जब गिबोनका बासिन्दाहरूले यहोशूले यरीहो र ऐलाई गरेका कुरा सुने,
And when the inhabitants of Gib'on heard what Joshua had done unto Jericho and unto 'Ai,
4 उनीहरूले धूर्त योजना बनाएर काम गरे । उनीहरू समाचारवाहकको रूपमा गए । उनीहरूले फाटिसकेको बोराहरू लिए र उनीहरूका गधामाथि राखे । उनीहरूले पुरानो, फाटेको र मरम्मत गरिएका मशकहरू पनि लिए ।
They also did work wilily, and went and feigned to be messengers, and took old sacks for their asses, and wine-bottles, old, and rent, and bound up;
5 उनीहरूले खुट्टामा पुरानो र टालेका जुत्ताहरू अनि लुगा पनि पुरानो फाटेको नै लगाए । उनीहरूले खानलाई लगेका सबै रोटी सुकिसकेका र ढुसी परेका थिए ।
And [put] old and patched-up shoes upon their feet, and old garments upon themselves; and all the bread of their provision was dry and mouldy.
6 उनीहरू गिलगालमा यहोशूको छाउनीमा गए र तिनलाई र इस्राएलका मानिसहरूलाई भने, “हामी धेरै टाढाको देशबाट आएका हौँ, त्यसैले अहिले हामीसँग सन्धि गर्नुहोस् ।
And they went to Joshua unto the camp at Gilgal, and said unto him, and to the men of Israel, We are come from a far-off country; and now make ye a covenant with us.
7 इस्राएलका मानिसहरूले हिव्वीहरूलाई भने, “सायद तिमीहरू हाम्रो नजकै बस्छौ । हामीले तिमीहरूसँग कसरी सन्धि गर्नु?”
And the men of Israel said unto the Hivites, Peradventure ye dwell in the midst of us; and how can we make a covenant with you:
8 उनीहरूले भने, “हामी तपाईंहरूका दासहरू हौँ ।” यहोशूले उनीहरूलाई भने, “तिमीहरू को हौ? तिमीहरू कहाँबाट आएका हौ?”
And they said unto Joshua, We are thy servants. And Joshua said unto them, Who are ye? and whence come ye!
9 उनीहरूले तिनलाई भने, “परमप्रभु तपाईंका परमेश्वरको नाउँको कारण तपाईंका दासहरू टाढा देशबाट यहाँ आएका छन् । उहाँको बारेमा र उहाँले मिश्रमा गर्नुभएका सबै कुरा,
And they said unto him, From a very far-off country are thy servants come, because of the name of the Lord thy God; for we have heard his fame, and all that he hath done in Egypt;
10 र यर्दन पारिका एमोरी राजाहरू अर्थात् हेश्बोनका राजा सीहोन, अस्तारोतमा बस्ने बाशानका राजा ओगलाई उहाँले गर्नुभएका सबै कुरा हामीले सुनेका छौँ ।
And all that he hath done to the two kings of the Emorites, that were beyond the Jordan, to Sichon the king of Cheshbon, and to 'Og the king of Bashan, who was at 'Ashtaroth.
11 हाम्रा धर्म-गुरुहरू र हाम्रा देशका बासिन्दाहरूले हामीलाई भने, 'यात्राको निम्ति खानेकुराहरू लैजाओ । तिनीहरूलाई भेट्न जाओ र तिनीहरूलाई भन, 'हामी तपाईंका दासहरू हौँ । हामीसँग सन्धि गर्नुहोस् ।'
Wherefore our elders and all the inhabitants of our country said to us, as followeth, Take provisions with you for the journey, and go to meet them, and say unto them, Your servants are we: and now make ye with us a covenant.
12 हामी तपाईंहरूकहाँ आउनलाई हाम्रो घरबाट यात्रा सुरु गरेको दिन यो रोटी तातै थियो । तर अहिले हेर्नुहोस्, यो सुकिसकेको र ढुसी परेको छ ।
This our bread we took hot for our provision out of our houses on the day we came forth to go unto you; and now, behold, it is dry, and it is become mouldy:
13 १३ हामीले मशकहरू भर्दा यिनीहरू नयाँ नै थिए र हेर्नुहोस्, अहिले यी चुहिरहेका छन् । धेरै लामो यात्राको कारण हाम्रा लुगा र जुत्ताहरू फाटिसकेका छन्' ।”
And these wine-bottles, which we filled, when new, — but behold, they are now become rent; and these our garments and our shoes are become worn out by reason of the very long journey.
14 त्यसैले इस्राएलीहरूले उनीहरूका केही खानेकुरा लिए, तर उनीहरूले परमप्रभुको निर्देशनको खोजी गरेनन् ।
And the men took of their provisions, but the decision of the Lord they did not ask.
15 यहोशूले उनीहरूसँग शान्ति सम्झौता गरे, उनीहरूसँग सन्धि गरे र उनीहरूलाई जीवित रहन दिए । मानिसहरूका अगुवाहरूले पनि उनीहरूसँग शपथ खाए ।
And Joshua made peace with them, and made a covenant with them, to let them live; and the princes of the congregation swore unto them.
16 इस्राएलीहरूले उनीहरूसँग यो सन्धि गरेको तिन दिनपछि उनीहरू छिमेकी रहेछन् र उनीहरू नजिकै बस्दा रहेछन् भनी तिनीहरूले थाहा पाए ।
And it came to pass at the end of three days after they had made a covenant with them, that they heard that they were their neighbors, and that they dwelt in the midst of them.
17 त्यसपछि इस्राएलका मानिसहरू निस्के र तेस्रो दिनमा सहरमा आए । उनीहरूका सहरहरू गिबोन, कपीरा, बरोत, किर्यात-यारीम थिए ।
And the children of Israel broke up, and came unto their cities on the third day; and their cities were Gib'on, and Kephirah, and Beeroth, and Kiryath-ye'arim.
18 इस्राएलका मानिसहरूले उनीहरूलाई आक्रमण गरेनन्, किनभने तिनीहरूका अगुवाहरूले परमप्रभु इस्राएलका परमेश्वरको सामु उनीहरूबाट शपथ खाएका थिए । सबै इस्राएलीले तिनीहरूका अगुवाहरूविरुद्ध गनगन गरे ।
And the children of Israel smote them not; because the princes of the congregation had sworn unto them by the Lord, the God of Israel; but all the congregation murmured against the princes.
19 तर सबै अगुवाले मानिसहरूलाई भने, “हामीले उनीहरूको बारेमा परमप्रभु इस्राएलका परमेश्वरद्वारा शपथ खाएका छौँ र अहिले हामी उनीहरूको हानि गर्न सक्दैनौ ।
And all the princes said unto all the congregation, We have sworn unto them by the Lord the God of Israel: and now we cannot touch them.
20 हामी उनीहरूलाई यसो गर्ने छौँ: हामीले उनीहरूसँग शपथ खाएका कारण हामीमाथि आइपर्ने क्रोधबाट बच्न हामी उनीहरूलाई बाँच्न दिने छौँ ।”
This will we do to them, and we will let them live, that there be no wrath upon us, on account of the oath which we have sworn unto them.
21 अगुवाहरूले तिनीहरूका मानिसहरूलाई भने, “उनीहरूलाई बाँच्न देओ ।” त्यसैले अगुवाहरूले तिनीहरूलाई भने झै गिबोनीहरू सबै इस्राएलीका निम्ति पानी बोक्ने र दाउरा काट्ने मानिसहरू भए ।
And the princes said unto them, Let them live: and they became hewers of wood and drawers of water unto all the congregation, as the princes had spoken unto them.
22 यहोशूले उनीहरूलाई बोलाए र भने, “'हामी टाढाबाट आएका हौँ' भनी तिमीहरूले हामीसँग किन छल गर्यौ, जब कि तिमीहरू हाम्रै माझमा बस्दा रहेछौ?
And Joshua called for them, and he spoke unto them, saying, Wherefore have ye deceived us, saying, We are very far from you: whereas ye dwell in the midst of us?
23 अब यसैकारण तिमीहरू श्रापित भएका छौ र तिमीहरूमध्ये केही सधैँको निम्ति मेरा परमेश्वरको भवनमा दाउरा काट्ने र पानी तान्ने दासहरू हुने छौ ।”
And now be ye cursed, and there shall not cease to be of you servants and hewers of wood and drawers of water for the house of my God.
24 उनीहरूले यहोशूलाई जवाफ दिए र भने, “परमप्रभु तपाईंका परमेश्वरले उहाँका दास मोशालाई सबै भूमि दिन र तपाईं सामु भएका भूमिका सबै बासिन्दालाई नष्ट पार्नलाई आज्ञा दिनुभएको तपाईंका दासहरूलाई बताइएको हुनाले तपाईंहरूको कारण हामी हाम्रो जीवनको निम्ति साह्रै भयभीत भएका थियौँ । यसैले हामीले यसो गर्यौँ ।
And they answered Joshua, and said, Because it was certainly told thy servants, how that the Lord thy God had commanded his servant Moses to give unto you all the land, and to destroy all the inhabitants of the land from before you; wherefore we were sore afraid for our lives because of you, and we have done this thing.
25 अब हेर्नुहोस्, हामीलाई तपाईंको शक्तिमा राख्नुहोस् । तपाईंको नजरमा हामीलाई जे गर्न असल र उचित लाग्छ, त्यही गर्नुहोस् ।”
And now, behold, we are in thy hand; as it seemeth good and right in thy eyes to do unto us, so do.
26 त्यसैले यहोशूले उनीहरूका निम्ति यसो गरेः तिनले उनीहरूलाई इस्राएलका मानिसहरूको नियन्त्रणबाट छुटकारा दिए । त्यसैले इस्राएलीहरूले उनीहरूलाई मारेनन् ।
And he did unto them thus; and he delivered them out of the hand of the children of Israel, and they slew them not.
27 त्यस दिन यहोशूले गिबोनीहरूलाई समुदायको निम्ति र परमप्रभुले चुन्नुभएको ठाउँको निम्ति दाउरा काट्ने र पानी बोक्नेहरू बनाए ।
And Joshua appointed them on that day hewers of wood and drawers of water for the congregation, and for the altar of the Lord, even unto this day, for the place which he should choose.
