उत्पत्ति 38
1 त्यस समयमा यहूदा आफ्ना दाजुभाइहरूलाई छोडेर हीरा नाउँ भएको कुनै एउटा अदुल्लामवासीकहाँ बस्दथे ।
It came about at that time that Judah left his brothers and stayed with a certain Adullamite, whose name was Hirah.
2 त्यहाँ उनले एउटा कनानी मानिसकी छोरीलाई भेटे जसको नाम शूआ थियो । उनले तिनीसँग विवाह गरे र सहवास गरे ।
He met there a daughter of a Canaanite man whose name was Shua. He married her and slept with her.
3 तिनी गर्भवती भइन् र एउटा छोरो जन्माइन् । त्यसको नाउँ एर् राखियो ।
She became pregnant and had a son. He was named Er.
4 तिनी फेरि गर्भवती भइन् र अर्को छोरो जन्माइन् । तिनले त्यसको नाउँ ओनान राखिन् ।
She became pregnant again and had a son. She called his name Onan.
5 तिनले फेरि अर्को छोरो जन्माइन् र त्यसको नाउँ शेलह राखिन् ।
She again had a son and called his name Shelah. It was at Kezib where she gave birth to him.
6 यहूदाले आफ्नो जेठो छोरा एर्को निम्ति एउटी पत्नी ल्याइदिए । तिनको नाउँ तामार थियो ।
Judah found a wife for Er, his firstborn. Her name was Tamar.
7 तर यहूदाको जेठो छोरो एर् परमप्रभुको दृष्टिमा दुष्ट थियो । यसैकारण परमप्रभुले त्यसको प्राण लिनुभयो ।
Er, Judah's firstborn, was wicked in the sight of Yahweh. Yahweh killed him.
8 यहूदाले ओनानलाई भने, “तँ आफ्नो दाजुकी पत्नीसँग सहवास गर्। आफ्नी भाउजूप्रति देवरको कर्तव्य पूरा गर्, र आफ्नो दाजुको निम्ति एउटा बालक हुर्का ।”
Judah said to Onan, “Sleep with your brother's wife. Do the duty of a brother-in-law to her, and raise up a child for your brother.”
9 त्यो बालक आफ्नो हुनेछैन भनेर ओनानलाई थाहा थियो । आफ्नो दाजुकी पत्नीसँग सहवास गर्दा दाजुको कुनै सन्तान नहोस् भनेर उसले आफ्नो वीर्य भुइँमा पतन गर्थ्यो ।
Onan knew that the child would not be his. Whenever he slept with his brother's wife, he spilled the semen on the ground so he would not have a child for his brother.
10 उसले जे गर्यो त्यो परमप्रभुको दृष्टिमा खराब थियो । परमप्रभुले त्यसको पनि प्राण लिनुभयो ।
What he did was evil in the sight of Yahweh. Yahweh killed him also.
11 त्यसपछि यहूदाले आफ्नी बुहारी तामारलाई भने, “मेरो छोरो शेलह ठुलो नभएसम्म तिम्रा बुबाकै घरमा विधवा नै भएर बस ।” किनभने अरू दाजुहरूझैँ शेलह पनि मर्छ कि भनेर उनी डराए । त्यसैकारण तामार तिनका बुबाकै घरमा बसिन् ।
Then Judah said to Tamar, his daughter-in-law, “Remain a widow in your father's house until Shelah, my son, grows up.” For he feared, “He might also die, just like his brothers.” Tamar left and lived in her father's house.
12 त्यसको धेरै समयपछि शूआकी छोरी यहूदाकी पत्नीको मृत्यु भयो । यहूदाले शोक गरिसकेपछि उनी र उनका मित्र अदुल्लामवासी हीराका साथ आफ्ना भेडा कत्रनेहरूकहाँ तिम्नामा गए ।
After a long time, Shua's daughter, the wife of Judah, died. Judah was comforted and went up to his sheepshearers at Timnah, he and his friend Hirah the Adullamite.
13 तामारलाई यसो भनियो, “हेर, तिम्रा ससुरा आफ्ना भेडा कत्रन तिम्ना जाँदै हुनुहुन्छ ।”
Tamar was told, “Look, your father-in-law is going up to Timnah to shear his sheep.”
14 तिनले विधवाको वस्त्र फुकालिन्, घुम्टोले आफ्नो टाउको र अनुहार ढाकिन् र अरूहरूले तिनलाई नचिनून् भनेर आफैँलाई कपडाले ढाकिन् । तिनी तिम्नाको बाटोमा रहेको एनैमको द्वारमा बसिन् । किनकि शेलह ठुलो भइसकेका तर तिनलाई उनकी पत्नी हुनलाई नदिइएको तिनले देखिन् ।
She took off the clothing of her widowhood and covered herself with her veil and wrapped herself. She sat in the gate of Enaim, which is by the road to Timnah. For she saw that Shelah had grown up but she had not been given to him as a wife.
15 जब यहूदाले तिनलाई देखे तिनले आफ्नो अनुहार ढाकेकी हुनाले तिनलाई एउटा वेश्या ठाने ।
When Judah saw her he thought that she was a prostitute because she had covered her face.
16 तिनी आफ्नी बुहारी हुन् भन्ने थाहा नभएर उनी तिनीकहाँ सडकको किनारमा गए र भने, “आऊ, मलाई तिमीसँग सुत्न देऊ” अनि तिनले भनिन्, “तपाईं मसँग सुत्नका लागि मलाई के दिनुहुन्छ?”
He went to her by the road and said, “Come, please let me sleep with you”—for he did not know that she was his daughter-in-law—and she said, “What will you give me so you can sleep with me?”
17 उनले भने, “म तिम्रो निम्ति बगालबाट एउटा पाठो दिनेछु ।” तिनले भनिन्, “के तपाईंले त्यो मकहाँ नपठाउन्जेल केही बन्धक राख्नुहुनेछ?”
He said, “I will send you a young goat from the flock.” She said, “Will you give me a pledge until you send it?”
18 उनले भने, “म तिमीलाई बन्धकको रूपमा के दिऊँ?” तिनले जवाफ दिइन्, “तपाईंको छाप, त्यसको डोरी, र तपाईंको हातमा भएको त्यो लौरो ।” उनले ती सबै तिनलाई दिए र तिनीसँग सुते, अनि तिनी उनीद्वारा गर्भवती भइन् ।
He said, “What pledge can I give you?” She replied, “Your seal and cord, and the staff that is in your hand.” He gave them to her and slept with her, and she became pregnant by him.
19 त्यसपछि तिनी उठेर गइहालिन् । तिनले आफ्नो घुम्टो हटाएर विधवाको वस्त्र लगाइन् ।
She got up and went away. She took off her veil and put on the clothing of her widowhood.
20 यहूदाले ती स्त्रीका हातबाट बन्धकमा रहेका सामान प्राप्त गर्न आफ्ना मित्र अदुल्लामवासीसँग एउटा पाठो पठाए, तर उनले तिनलाई भेट्टाएनन् ।
Judah sent the young goat by his friend the Adullamite in order that he might receive the pledge back from the woman's hand, but he did not find her.
21 त्यसपछि त्यस अदुल्लामवासीले त्यहाँका मानिसहरूलाई सोधे, “मन्दिरमा सेवा गर्ने त्यो वेश्या कहाँ गई जो सडक नजिक एनैममा थिई?” तिनीहरूले भने, “मन्दिरमा सेवा गर्ने कोही वेश्या यहाँ छैन ।”
Then the Adullamite asked the men of the place, “Where is the cultic prostitute who was at Enaim by the road?” They said, “There has not been a cultic prostitute here.”
22 उनी यहूदाकहाँ फर्के र भने, “मैले त्यसलाई भेट्टाइनँ । र त्यस ठाउँका मानिसहरूले पनि भने, ‘मन्दिरमा सेवा गर्ने कोही वेश्या यहाँ छैन’ ।”
He returned to Judah and said, “I did not find her. Also, the men of the place said, 'There has not been a cultic prostitute here.'”
23 यहूदाले भने, “त्यसले नै ती सामानहरू राखोस्, र हामी शर्ममा पर्नेछैनौँ । मैले त यो पाठो पठाएकै हो, तर तिमीले त्यसलाई भेट्टाएनौ ।”
Judah said, “Let her keep the things, that we not be put to shame. Indeed, I sent this young goat, but you did not find her.”
24 त्यसको करिब तिन महिनापछि यहूदालाई भनियो, “तपाईंकी बुहारी तामारले वेश्याकर्म गरेकी छे, र त्यो गर्भवती भएकी छे ।” यहूदाले भने, “त्यसलाई मकहाँ ल्याओ र त्यसलाई जलाइयोस् ।”
It came about after about three months that it was told to Judah, “Tamar your daughter-in-law has committed prostitution, and indeed, she is pregnant by it.” Judah said, “Bring her here and let her be burned.”
25 जब तिनलाई ल्याइँदै थियो, तिनले आफ्नो ससुरालाई एउटा सन्देश पठाए, “यी सामानहरू जसका हुन् म त्यही मानिसद्वारा गर्भवती भएकी हुँ ।” तिनले भनिन्, “यो छाप, त्यसको डोरी र यो लौरो कसका हुन् कृपया पत्ता लगाइदिनुहोस् ।”
When she was brought out, she sent to her father-in-law a message, “By the man who owns these I am pregnant.” She said, “Determine please whose these are, the seal and cords and staff.”
26 यहूदाले ती सामानहरू चिने र भने, “मैले यिनलाई मेरो छोरो शेलहकी पत्नी हुन नदिएको हुनाले यिनी मभन्दा पनि धेरै धर्मी छिन्, ।” त्यसपछि उनी कहिल्यै तिनीसँग सुतेनन् ।
Judah recognized them and said, “She is more righteous than I am, since I did not give her as a wife to Shelah, my son.” He did not sleep with her again.
27 तिनको बच्चा जन्माउने समय भयो । तिनको गर्भमा जुम्ल्याहा थियो ।
It came about at the time for her to give birth that, behold, twins were in her womb.
28 तिनले बच्चा जन्माइरहँदा एउटाले आफ्नो हात बाहिर निकाल्यो, र सुँडेनीले एउटा गाढा रातो धागो लिएर त्यसको हातमा बाँधिदिएर भनी, “योचाहिँ पहिले बाहिर आयो ।”
It came about as she was giving birth one put out a hand, and the midwife took a scarlet thread and tied it on his hand and said, “This one came out first.”
29 तर त्यसपछि त्यसले आफ्नो हात भित्र लग्यो, र त्यसको भाइ पहिला बाहिर निस्कियो । सुँडेनीले अचम्म मानेर भनी, “यो कसरी पहिला बाहिर आयो!” यसैकारण त्यसको नाउँ फारेस राखियो ।
But then he drew back his hand, and, behold, his brother came out first. The midwife said, “How you have broken out!” So he was named Perez.
30 त्यसपछि हातमा गाढा रातो धागो भएको त्यसको दाजु बाहिर आयो, र त्यसको नाउँ जेरह राखियो ।
Then his brother came out, who had the scarlet thread upon his hand, and he was named Zerah.
