१ राजाहरू 18
1 धेरै दिन बितेपछि खडेरीको तेस्रो वर्षमा परमप्रभुको वचन एलियाकहाँ आयो, “आहाबकहाँ गएर आफैलाई प्रकट गर्, र म देशमा वृष्टि ल्याउने छु ।”
And it came to pass, after many days, that, the word of Yahweh, came unto Elijah, in the third year, saying, —Go, shew thyself unto Ahab, that I may send rain upon the face of the ground.
2 आफैलाई आहाबकहाँ प्रकट गर्न एलिया गए । सामरियामा घोर अनिकाल परेको थियो ।
And Elijah went, to show himself unto Ahab. Now, the famine, was severe in Samaria.
3 आहाबले राजदरबारको जिम्मावाल ओबदियालाई बोलाए । ओबदियाले परमप्रभुलाई अत्यन्तै आदर गर्थे ।
And Ahab had called for Obadiah, who was over his house. Now, Obadiah, was one who revered Yahweh, exceedingly.
4 किनकि ईजेबेलले परमप्रभुका अगमवक्ताहरूलाई मार्दा ओबदियाले एक सय अगमवक्तालाई लिएर तिनीहरूलाई पचास-पचास गरी एउटा गुफामा लुकाई तिनीहरूलाई रोटी र पानी खुवाएका थिए ।
And so it came to pass, when Jezebel was cutting off the prophets of Yahweh, that Obadiah took a hundred prophets, and hid them by fifties in caves, and sustained them, with bread and water.
5 आहाबले ओबदियालाई भने, “देशको चारैतिर भएका खोलानाला र त्यसका मुहानहरूमा जाऊ । सायद हामीले घाँस पाउनेछौँ अनि घोडा र खच्चरहरूलाई जीवितै राख्न सक्छौँ । यसरी हामीले सबै पशु गुमाउने छैनौँ ।
So then Ahab said unto Obadiah, Go, and let us pass throughout the land, unto all the fountains of water, and unto all the ravines, peradventure we may find grass, and save alive horse and mule, and not have more of the beasts cut off.
6 त्यसैले निरीक्षण र पानीको खोजीको लागि तिनीहरूले देश विभाजन गरे । आहाब एकलै एकातिर गए, र ओबदिया अर्कोतिर गए ।
So they divided to them the land, to pass through it, —Ahab, went one way, by himself, and, Obadiah, went another way, by himself.
7 ओबदिया बाटोमा जाँदै गर्दा एलियाले अकस्मात् तिनलाई भेटे । ओबदियाले तिनलाई चिनिहाले र भुइँतिर शिर निहुराए । तिनले भने, “के तपाईं मेरा मालिक एलिया हुनुहुन्न र?”
And so it was, as Obadiah was on the road, that lo! Elijah, met him, —and he recognised him, and fell upon his face, and said—Now art, thou, my lord Elijah?
8 एलियाले तिनलाई जवाफ दिए, “म नै हुँ । 'हेर, एलिया यहीँ छन्' भनी गएर तिम्रो मालिकलाई बताइदेऊ ।”
And he said to him—I, am! Go, say to thy lord: Here, is, Elijah!
9 ओबदियाले भने, “मैले के पाप गरेको छु, कि तपाईं आफ्ना दासलाई आहाबको हातमा मर्नलाई सुम्पनुहुन्छ?”
And he said—How have I sinned, —that, thou, art delivering thy servant into the hand of Ahab, to put me to death?
10 परमप्रभु तपाईंका परमेश्वरको नाउँमा म भन्दछु, कि यस्तो कुनै जाति वा राज्य छैन जहाँ मेरा मालिकले तपाईंलाई फेला पार्न मानिसहरू पठाएका छैनन् । 'एलिया यहाँ छैनन्' भनी कुनै जाति वा राज्यले बताउँदा तिनीहरूले फेला पार्न सकेनन् भनी आहाबले तिनीहरूलाई भाकल गर्न लगाउँछन् ।
By the life of Yahweh thy God, there is no nation or kingdom, whither my lord hath not sent to seek thee, and, when they have said—Nay! he hath taken an oath of the kingdom or the nation, that no one could find thee;
11 तथापि अहिले तपाईं भन्नुहुन्छ, 'जाऊ, र एलिया यहाँ छन् भनी आफ्नो मालिकलाई बताइदेऊ ।'
and, now, thou, art saying, —Go say to thy lord, Here, is, Elijah;
12 म यहाँबाट जानेबित्तिकै परमप्रभुका आत्माले तपाईंलाई मैले नचिनेको ठाउँमा लैजानुहुने छ । तब मैले आहाबलाई गएर बताउँदा तिनले तपाईंलाई फेला नपारेपछि तिनले मलाई मार्ने छन् । तापनि म तपाईंका दासले त मेरो बाल्यकालदेखि नै परमप्रभुको आराधना गरेको छु ।
so shall it come to pass, as soon as, I, go from thee, that, the spirit of Yahweh, shall carry thee away—whither I know not, and so, when I go in to tell Ahab, and he cannot find thee, then will he slay me, —and yet, thy servant, hath revered Yahweh, from my youth.
13 हे मेरा मालिक, ईजेबेलले परमप्रभुका अगमवक्ताहरूलाई मार्दा मैले परमप्रभुका एक सय जना अगमवक्तालाई पचास-पचास गरी कसरी एउटा गुफामा लुकाई तिनीहरूलाई रोटी र पानी खुवाएँ भन्ने कुरो तपाईंलाई बताइएको छैन र?
Was it not told my lord, what I did when Jezebel was slaying the prophets of Yahweh, —how I hid, of the prophets of Yahweh, a hundred men—by fifties—in caves, and sustained them with bread and water?
14 अहिले तपाईं मलाई भन्नुहुन्छ, 'जाऊ, र एलिया यहाँ छन् भनी आफ्नो मालिकलाई बताइदेऊ ।' तिनले मलाई मार्ने छन् ।”
and yet, now, thou, art saying, Go, tell thy lord—Here, is, Elijah; and so he will slay me!
15 तब एलियाले जवाफ दिए, “सर्वशक्तिमान् परमप्रभु जसको अगि म खडा छु, उहाँको नाउँमा शपथ खाएर म भन्दछु, कि निश्चय नै म आजै आहाबकहाँ देखा पर्ने छु ।”
Then said Elijah—By the life of Yahweh of hosts, before whom I stand, to-day, will I show myself unto him.
16 त्यसैले ओबदिया आहाबलाई भेट्न गए, र एलियाले भनेका कुरा तिनलाई बताए ।
So Obadiah went to meet Ahab, and told him, —and, Ahab, went to meet, Elijah.
17 तब राजा एलियालाई भेट्न गए । जब आहाबले एलियालाई देखे, तिनले तिनलाई भने, “तिमी नै एलिया हौ? इस्राएलमा कष्ट ल्याउने तिमी नै हौ!”
And it came to pass, when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said unto him, Now, art, thou, troubling Israel?
18 एलियाले जवाफ दिए, “मैले इस्राएलमा कष्ट ल्याएको छैनँ, तर तपाईं र तपाईंको परिवारले परमप्रभुका आज्ञाहरू त्यागेर बाल देवताको पछि लागी कष्ट ल्याउनुभएको छ ।
And he said—I have not troubled Israel, but, thou and the house of thy father, —in that ye have forsaken the commandments of Yahweh, and followed Baal.
19 अब मलाई कर्मेल डाँडामा भेट गर्न सारा इस्राएलीलाई बोलाउनुहोस् । ईजेबेलको टेबुलमा बसेर खाने बालका चार सय पचास अगमवक्ता र अशेराका चार सय अगमवक्तालाई पनि ल्याउनुहोस् ।”
Now, therefore, send, gather unto me all Israel, unto Mount Carmel, —and the prophets of Baal, four hundred and fifty, and the prophets of the Sacred Stem, four hundred, who do eat at the table of Jezebel.
20 त्यसैले आहाबले सारा इस्राएलीलाई भेल हुन खबर पठाए, र तिनीहरू अगमवक्ताहरूसँगै कर्मेल डाँडामा जम्मा भए ।
So Ahab sent among all the sons of Israel, —and gathered the prophets unto Mount Carmel.
21 एलिया सबै मानिसका नजिक आई भने, “कहिलेसम्म तिमीहरू आफ्नो मन बद्लिरहन्छौ? परमप्रभु नै परमेश्वर हुनुहुन्छ भने उहाँको पछि लाग । तर बाल परमेश्वर हो भने त्यसको पछि लाग ।” तापनि मानिसहरूले तिनलाई जवाफ दिएनन् ।
And Elijah drew near unto all the people, and said—How long are ye limping on the two divided opinions? If, Yahweh, be GOD, follow, him, but, if, Baal, follow, him. But the people answered him, not a word.
22 तब एलियाले मानिसहरूलाई भने, “परमप्रभुको अगमवक्ताको रूपमा म एकलै छाडिएको छु, तर बालका अगमवक्ताहरू ४५० जना छन् ।
Then said Elijah unto the people—I, am left, Yahweh’s, only, prophet, —but, the prophets of Baal, are four hundred and fifty men.
23 तिनीहरूले हामीलाई दुईवटा साँढे देऊन् । तिनीहरू आफैले एउटा साँढेको छनोट गरी त्यसलाई टुक्राटुक्रा पारून्, अनि त्यसलाई दाउरामाथि राखून्, तर त्यसको मुनि आगो भने नलगाऊन् । त्यसपछि म अर्को साँढेलाई तयार पार्ने छु, र त्यसलाई दाउरामाथि राख्ने छु, तर त्यसको मुनि आगो भने लगाउँदिनँ ।
Let there be given us, therefore, two bullocks, and let them choose for themselves one bullock, and cut it in pieces, and lay it upon the wood, but, fire, shall they not put, —then, I, will make ready the other bullock, and place upon the wood, but, fire, will I not put.
24 तिमीहरूले आफ्नो देवतालाई पुकार गर, र म परमप्रभुलाई पुकार्ने छु । जसले आगोद्वारा जवाफ दिनुहुन्छ उहाँ नै परमेश्वर हुनुहुने छ ।” सबै मानिसले भने, “यो असल कुरो हो ।”
Then shall ye call on the name of your god, and, I, will call on the name of Yahweh, and it shall be, the God that respondeth by fire, he, is GOD. And all the people responded—Well spoken!
25 त्यसैले एलियाले बालका अगमवक्ताहरूलाई भने, “तिमीहरूले एउटा साँढे छनोट गरी त्यसलाई तयार पार किनकि तिमीहरू सङ्ख्यामा धेरै छौ । त्यसपछि आफ्नो देवतालाई पुकार गर, तर साँढेको मुनि आगो नलगाओ ।”
Then said Elijah to the prophets of Baal—Choose for yourselves one bullock, and make ye ready, first, for, ye, are many, —and call ye on the name of your god, but, fire, shall ye not put.
26 तिनीहरूले तिनीहरूलाई दिइएको एउटा साँढे लिएर त्यसलाई तयार पारे, र बिहानदेखि दिउँसोसम्म यसो भन्दै बाललाई पुकार गरे, “हे बाल, हाम्रा कुरा सुन्नुहोस् ।” तर त्यहाँ कुनै आवाज आएन, न त कसैले जवाफ दियो । तिनीहरूले बनाएका वेदीको वरिपरि तिनीहरू नाचे ।
So they took the bullock which was given them, and made ready, and called on the name of Baal—from the morning even until the noon, saying—O Baal! answer us. But them was no voice, nor any that answered. And they leaped about by the altar which had been made.
27 मध्यान्हमा एलियाले तिनीहरूको खिसी गर्दै भने, “अझै चर्को गरी कराओ । त्यो पो देवता हो! उसले सोचविचार गर्दै होला वा काममा व्यस्त होला वा यात्रामा होला वा सुतिहरको छ होला । त्यसैले उसलाई ब्युँझाइनुपर्छ ।”
And it came to pass, at noon, that Elijah mocked them, and said—Cry with a loud voice, for, a god, he is, either he hath, a meditation, or an occasion to retire, or he hath, a journey, —peradventure, he, sleepeth, and must be awaked.
28 त्यसैले तिनीहरू अझै चर्को गरी चिच्च्याए, र तिनीहरूको आदतअनुसार तिनीहरूले आ-आफूलाई तरवार र भालाले प्रहार गरे ।
And they cried, with a loud voice, and cut themselves, after their custom, with swords, and with lances, —until the blood gushed out upon them.
29 मद्यदिन बितेर गयो, र तिनीहरू साँझको बलिदान चढाउने बेलासम्म तिनीहरू बरबराउँदै थिए, तर त्यहाँ कुनै आवाज सुनिएन न त कसैले जवाफ दियो । तिनीहरूका बिन्तीलाई ध्यान दिने कोही भएन ।
And so it was, when noon was passed, that although they prophesied until the offering up of the evening gift, yet was there no voice nor any that answered, nor any that hearkened.
30 तब एलियाले मानिसहरूलाई भने, “मेरो नजिक आओ ।” सबै मानिस तिनको नजिक आए । त्यसपछि तिनले परमप्रभुको भत्केको वेदी मर्मत गरे ।
Then said Elijah unto all the people: Draw near unto, me. And all the people drew near unto, him. Then repaired he the broken-down altar of Yahweh; yea Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, —
31 एलियाले बाह्रवटा ढुङ्गा लिए । प्रत्येकले याकूबका बाह्र छोराको प्रतिनिधित्व गर्थ्यो । यी तिनै याकूब हुन् जसकहाँ परमप्रभुको यस्तो वचन आएको थियो, “तेरो नाउँ इस्राएल हुने छ ।”
unto whom the word of Yahweh came, saying—Israel, shall be thy name;
32 ती ढुङ्गाहरूले तिनले परमप्रभुको नाउँमा एउटा वेदी बनाए, र त्यस वेदीको वरिपरि पन्ध्र लिटर जति बिउ जाने ठुलो खाडल खने ।
and built, with the stones, an altar, in the name of Yahweh, —and he made a trench, as large as would contain two measures of seed, round about the altar;
33 तिनले आगो लगाउन दाउराको बन्दोवस्त गरे, साँढेलाई टुक्राटुक्रा पारे, र ती टुक्राहरूलाई दाउरामाथि राखे । तिनले भने, “चार गाग्रा पानी भरेर यो बलि र दाउरामाथि खन्याइदेओ ।”
and he put in order the wood, —and cut in pieces the bullock, and laid upon the wood. Then said he—Fill four pitchers with water, and pour out upon the ascending-sacrifice, and upon the wood. And they did so.
34 त्यसपछि तिनले भने, “दोस्रो पटक पनि यसै गर ।” तिनीहरूले दोस्रो पटक पनि त्यसै गरे । फेरि एक पटक तिनले भने, “तेस्रो पटक पनि यसै गर ।” तिनीहरूले तेस्रो पटक पनि त्यसै गरे ।
And he said—Do it the second time. And they did it the second time. And he said—Do it the third time. And they did it the third time.
35 पानी वेदीको चारैतिर पोखियो र खाडल भरियो ।
And the water ran round about the altar, —moreover also, the trench, filled he with water.
36 साँझको बलिदान चढाउने समयमा एलिया अगमवक्ता नजिक आएर भने, “हे परमप्रभु, अब्राहाम, इसहाक र इस्राएलका परमेश्वर, तपाईं इस्राएलका परमेश्वर हुनुहुन्छ र म तपाईंका दास हुँ र यी सबै कुरा मैले तपाईंको वचनअनुसार गरेको छु भनी आज थाहा होस् ।
And it came to pass, at the time of the offering of the gift, that Elijah the prophet drew near, and said, O Yahweh, God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel! To-day, let it be known—That, thou, art God in Israel, and that, I, am thy servant, —and that, by thy word, have I done all these things.
37 हे परमप्रभु, मेरो कुरा सुन्नुहोस्, तपाईं परमप्रभु नै परमेश्वर हुनुहुन्छ र तपाईंले नै यी मानिसहरूका ह्रदय फर्काउनुभएको छ भनी यी मानिसहरूले जानून् ।”
Answer me, O Yahweh! answer me, That this people may know, that, thou—Yahweh, art GOD, —so shalt, thou thyself, have turned their heart back again.
38 तब परमप्रभुको आगो खसी होमबलि, दाउरा, ढुङ्गाहरू, धूलोलाई नष्ट पार्यो, र खाडलको पानी पनि सुकाइदियो ।
Then fell fire from Yahweh, and consumed the ascending-sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, —even the water that was in the trench, it licked up.
39 जब सबै मानिसले यो देखे तिनीहरूले आ-आफ्ना शिर झुकाई भने, “परमप्रभु नै परमेश्वर हुनुहुन्छ! परमप्रभु नै परमेश्वर हुनुहुन्छ!”
And, when all the people saw it, they fell upon their faces, —and said, Yahweh, he, is GOD, Yahweh, he, is GOD.
40 त्यसैले एलियाले तिनीहरूलाई भने, “बालका अगमवक्ताहरूलाई पक्र । एउटै पनि भाग्न नपाओस् ।” त्यसैले तिनीहरूले बालका अगमवक्कताहरूलाई पक्रे र तिनीहरूलाई कीशोन खोलामा ल्याई मारे ।
And Elijah said unto them—Seize ye the prophets of Baal—let not, a man, of them escape. So they seized them. And Elijah took them down unto the ravine of Kishon, and slaughtered them there.
41 एलियाले आहाबलाई भने, “उठ्नुहोस्, खानपान गर्नुहोस् र पिउनुहोस् किनकि ठुलो झरीको आवाज आउँदै छ ।”
Then said Elijah unto Ahab, Go up, eat and drink, —for there is a sound of a downpour of rain.
42 त्यसैले आहाब खानपान गर्न र पिउनलाई गए । तब एलिया कर्मेल डाँडाको टाकुरामा उक्ले, भुइँमा आफ्नो शिर झुकाई आफ्ना घुँडाहरूका बिचमा आफ्नो मुहार राखे ।
So Ahab went up, to eat and to drink, —but, Elijah, went up to the top of Carmel, and bowed himself to the earth, and put his face between his knees.
43 तिनले आफ्नो नोकरलाई भने, “गएर समुद्रतिर गएर हेर् ।” तिनको नोकर गएर हेर्यो र फर्केर आई भन्यो, “त्यहाँ केही छैन ।” त्यसैले एलियाले भने, “सातपल्ट गएर हेर् ।”
Then said he unto his young man—Go up, I pray thee, and look about in the direction of the sea. So he went up, and looked about, and said—There is, nothing whatever. Then said he—Go again, seven times.
44 सातौँ पटकमा नोकरले भन्यो, “हेर्नुहोस्, मानिसको हातजस्तै समुद्रबाट सानो बादल उठिरहेको छ ।” एलियाले जवाफ दिए, “गएर आहाबलाई भन्, 'आफ्नो रथ तयार गरेर तल जानुहोस् नत्रता पानीले तपाईंलाई रोक्ने छ ।”
And it came to pass, at the seventh time, that he said, Lo! a little cloud, like a man’s hand coming up from the sea. Then he said—Go up, say unto Ahab—Harness, and get thee down, lest the rain shut thee in.
45 केही क्षणमा नै बादल कालो भयो र हुरी चल्यो, अनि त्यहाँ ठुलो झरी पर्यो । आहाब रथमा चढेर यिजरेलमा गए,
And it came to pass, meanwhile, that, the heavens, had enshrouded themselves with clouds and wind, and there came a great rain, and Ahab rode, and went to Jezreel;
46 तर परमप्रभुको हात एलियामाथि थियो । तिनले आफ्नो खास्टो पटुकामा कसे, र यिजरेलको प्रवेशद्वारसम्मै आहाबको अगिअगि कुदे ।
but, the hand of Yahweh, came upon Elijah, so he girded his loins, —and ran before Ahab, until thou enterest Jezreel.
