1 Nkosi, Nkosi yethu, lilenkazimulo kangakanani ibizo lakho emhlabeni wonke! Omise ubukhosi bakho ngaphezu kwamazulu.

O Jehovah, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth, who has set thy glory upon the heavens!

2 Emlonyeni wezingane lowabamunyayo umisile amandla ngenxa yezitha zakho, ukuze uthulise isitha lomphindiseli.

Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou have perfected praise, because of thine adversaries, that thou might still the enemy and the avenger.

3 Lapho ngikhangela amazulu akho, umsebenzi weminwe yakho, inyanga lenkanyezi owazimisayo,

When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou have ordained,

4 uyini umuntu ukuthi umkhumbule, lendodana yomuntu ukuthi uyihambele?

what is man that thou remember him? And the son of man that thou succor him?

5 Kanti wamenza waba ngaphansi kancinyane kulengilosi, wamethwesa umqhele wobukhosi lodumo.

For thou have made him but little lower than agents, and crowned him with glory and honor.

6 Wamenza wabusa phezu kwemisebenzi yezandla zakho, konke wakubeka ngaphansi kwenyawo zakhe,

Thou make him to have dominion over the works of thy hands. Thou have put all things under his feet.

7 izimvu lenkabi zonke, kanye lezinyamazana zeganga,

All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field,

8 inyoni zamazulu, lezinhlanzi zolwandle, okudlula ezindleleni zenlwandle.

the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea, whatever passes through the paths of the seas.
