1 Ngoqotho, umphefumulo wami uyamlindela uNkulunkulu ngokuthula; luvela kuye usindiso lwami.
God is the only one who can give me peace in my inner being, and he is the one who saves me [from my enemies].
2 Nguye kuphela olidwala lami losindiso lwami, inqaba yami; kangiyikunyikinywa kakhulu.
Only he is like an [overhanging] rock [under which I can be safe] [MET]; he will be [like] a shelter, [with the result that] I will never be defeated [MET].
3 Koze kube nini liceba ububi limelene lomuntu? Lonke lizabulawa, njengomduli otshekileyo, uthango oludilikayo.
When will you, [my enemies], stop attacking me [RHQ]? I feel that I am [as useless against you as] a wall that is about to fall over or a broken-down fence [MET].
4 Baceba kuphela ukumwisa ekuphakameni kwakhe, bathokoza ngamanga; ngomlomo wabo bayabusisa, kodwa ngaphakathi kwabo bayathuka. (Sela)
My enemies plan to remove me from my important position so that people no longer honor me. They delight in telling lies. They bless people by what they say [MTY], but in their inner beings they curse [those people].
5 Mphefumulo wami, lindela ngokuthula kuNkulunkulu kuphela; ngoba ithemba lami livela kuye.
God is the only one who gives me peace in my inner being; he is the one whom I confidently expect [to help me].
6 Nguye kuphela olidwala lami losindiso lwami, inqaba yami; kangiyikunyikinywa.
Only he is [like an overhanging] rock [under which I can be safe] [MET]; he is [like] a shelter, and [as a result] I will never be defeated.
7 LukuNkulunkulu usindiso lwami lodumo lwami, idwala lamandla ami, isiphephelo sami, kukuNkulunkulu.
God is the one who saves me and honors me. He is [like an overhanging] strong rock under which I [can] find shelter [MET].
8 Thembani kuye isikhathi sonke, lina bantu; lithulule inhliziyo yenu phambi kwakhe; uNkulunkulu uyisiphephelo sethu. (Sela)
[You my] people, always trust in him. Tell him all your troubles, because he is (our refuge/the one who protects us) [MET].
9 Ngoqotho, abantukazana bayize, izikhulu ziyinkohliso; esilinganisweni balula kuleze bebonke.
People who are considered to be unimportant are [as worthless/unreliable as] a breath of air; people who are considered to be important [also] really (amount to nothing/cannot be trusted [to help us)]. If you put them all on a scale, [it would be as if] they weighed less than a puff of air.
10 Lingathembeli embandezelweni, lingamisi ithemba eliyize ekuphangeni; uba inotho isanda, lingabeki inhliziyo kuyo.
Do not trust in money gained by extorting it from others; do not try to gain anything by robbing others. If you become very wealthy, do not trust in [IDM] your money.
11 UNkulunkulu ukhulumile kwaba kanye, ngikuzwile lokhu kabili, ukuthi amandla angakaNkulunkulu.
I have heard God say more than once that he is the one who [really] has power,
12 Lomusa ungowakho, Nkosi; ngoba wena uyamphindisela wonke umuntu njengokomsebenzi wakhe.
and that he is the one who faithfully loves [us]. He rewards every one [of us] according to the deeds that we do.
