1 Ngizaphakamisela amehlo ami ezintabeni, lapho usizo lwami oluzavela khona.

“A song for the degrees.” I lift up my eyes unto the mountains: whence shall come my help?

2 Usizo lwami luvela eNkosini, eyenza amazulu lomhlaba.

My help is from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth.

3 Kayiyikuvuma ukuthi unyawo lwakho lutshelele; umlondolozi wakho kayikuwozela.

He will not suffer thy foot to slip: thy keeper doth not slumber.

4 Khangela, umlondolozi kaIsrayeli kayikuwozela njalo kayikulala.

Behold, he slumbereth not, and he sleepeth not—the keeper of Israel.

5 INkosi ingumlondolozi wakho; iNkosi ingumthunzi wakho esandleni sakho sokunene.

The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade, he is on thy right hand.

6 Ilanga kaliyikukutshaya emini, lenyanga ebusuku.

By day the sun shall not strike thee, nor the moon by night.

7 INkosi izakulondoloza kukho konke okubi; izalondoloza umphefumulo wakho.

The Lord will guard thee against all evil: he will guard thy soul.

8 INkosi izalondoloza ukuphuma kwakho lokungena kwakho, kusukela khathesi kuze kube phakade.

The Lord will guard thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth and for evermore.
