1 Kwasekusithi uJesu eseqedile lawomazwi, wasuka eGalili, weza emikhawulweni yeJudiya ngaphetsheya kweJordani.
It came about after Jesus had finished these teachings, that he removed from Galilee, and went to that part of Judea which lay across the Jordan.
2 Amaxuku amakhulu asemlandela, wasewasilisa lapho.
A great multitude followed him, and he healed them there.
3 Basebesiza kuye abaFarisi bemlinga, bathi kuye: Kuvunyelwe yini ukuthi indoda yale umkayo ngaso sonke isizatho?
Presently some of the Pharisees came up to him, and made test of him by asking, "Is it right for a man to divorce his wife for every cause?"
4 Wasephendula wathi kubo: Kalifundanga yini ukuthi owabadabula kusukela ekuqaleni wabenza owesilisa lowesifazana?
"Have you not read." he answered, "that He who created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said,
5 Wasesithi: Ngenxa yalokhu indoda izatshiya uyise lonina, inamathele kumkayo; labo ababili bazakuba nyamanye.
"For this cause shall a man leave his father and his mother and shall cleave to his wife; and the two shall be one flesh?
6 Ngakho kabasebabili, kodwa sebenyamanye. Ngakho lokho uNkulunkulu akuhlanganisileyo kakungabi lamuntu okwehlukanisayo.
"Thus they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate."
7 Bathi kuye: Pho uMozisi walayelani ukunika incwadi yesehlukaniso, lokumala?
They answered, "Why then did Moses command the husband to give her’a written bill of divorce,’ and so to put her away?"
8 Wathi kubo: Ngenxa yobulukhuni benhliziyo zenu uMozisi walivumela ukwala omkenu; kodwa kusukela ekuqaleni kwakungenjalo.
"Moses," said Jesus, "permitted you to divorce your wives on account of the hardness of your hearts, but from the beginning it was not so.
9 Kodwa ngithi kini: Loba ngubani owala umkakhe, ngaphandle kokufeba, abesethatha omunye, uyafeba; futhi othatha owaliweyo uyafeba.
"And I tell you that any man who divorces his wife for any cause except her unfaithfulness, and marries another woman, commits adultery."
10 Abafundi bathi kuye: Uba udaba lomuntu lomfazi lunjalo, akusizi ukuthatha.
"If that is the position of a man in relation to his wife," answered the disciples, "it is better not to marry."
11 Kodwa wathi kubo: Kakusibo bonke abangalemukela lelilizwi, ngaphandle kwabakunikiweyo.
He answered them. "Not all are accepting this teaching, but only those to whom it has been granted.
12 Ngoba kukhona abathenwa, abazalwa benjalo kusukela esiswini sikanina; njalo kukhona abathenwa, abathenwa ngabantu; kukhona futhi abathenwa, abazithenileyo ngenxa yombuso wamazulu. Lowo ongakwemukela lokho kakwamukele.
"For there are eunuchs who have been such from birth; others who have been made such by men; and others who have made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of God. He who is able to receive this, let him receive it."
13 Khona kwalethwa kuye abantwana abancane, ukuze abeke izandla zakhe phezu kwabo, akhuleke; kodwa abafundi babakhuza.
Then young children were brought to him, that he might lay his hands on them and pray. His disciples interfered, but Jesus said to them.
14 Kodwa uJesu wathi: Vumelani abantwana abancane, lingabenqabeli ukuza kimi; ngoba umbuso wamazulu ungowabanje.
"Let the little children come to me, and forbid them not; for it is to the childlike that the kingdom of heaven belongs."
15 Wasebeka izandla phezu kwabo, wasuka lapho.
So he laid his hands upon them, and departed from that place.
16 Njalo khangela, kwasondela omunye wathi kuye: Mfundisi olungileyo, ngizakwenzani okulungileyo, ukuze ngibe lempilo elaphakade? (aiōnios g166)
But look! a certain man came up to him and asked, "Teacher, what good thing shall I do to inherit eternal life?" (aiōnios g166)
17 Wasesithi kuye: Ungibizelani ngokuthi olungileyo? Kakho olungileyo, ngaphandle koyedwa, uNkulunkulu. Kodwa uba uthanda ukungena ekuphileni, gcina imilayo.
"Why do you ask me about what is good?" asked Jesus. "There is but One who is good. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments."
18 Wathi kuye: Yiyiphi? UJesu wasesithi: Ungabulali; ungafebi; ungebi; ungafakazi amanga;
"Which commandments?" asked the man. Jesus replied. "Thou shalt not kill; Thou shalt not commit adultery; Thou shalt not steal; Thou shalt not bear false witness;
19 hlonipha uyihlo lonyoko; njalo, wothanda umakhelwane wakho njengalokhu uzithanda wena.
"Honor thy father and thy mother; and, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself."
20 Ijaha lathi kuye: Konke lokhu ngikugcinile kusukela ebutsheni bami; ngisaswelani?
The young man answered. "I have carefully kept them all. What yet do I lack?"
21 UJesu wathi kulo: Uba uthanda ukuphelela, hamba uthengise impahla zakho uphe abayanga, njalo uzakuba lempahla eligugu ezulwini; njalo uze lapha, ungilandele.
"If you want to be perfect," said Jesus, "go, sell your property, give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me."
22 Kodwa selizwile lelilizwi ijaha lasuka lidanile; ngoba lalilempahla ezinengi.
But when the young man heard this teaching, he went away sorrowful, for he was one who had much property.
23 UJesu wasesithi kubafundi bakhe: Ngiqinisile ngithi kini: Onothileyo uzangena ngokulukhuni embusweni wamazulu.
So Jesus said to his disciples. "In solemn truth I tell you that a rich man will find it difficult to enter the kingdom of heaven.
24 Njalo futhi ngithi kini: Kulula ukuthi ikamela lingene ngentunja yenalithi, kulokuthi onothileyo angene embusweni wezulu.
"I tell you again, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven."
25 Sebezwile abafundi bakhe bamangala kakhulu, bathi: Pho kungasindiswa bani?
When they heard this the disciples were utterly astounded. "Who then can be saved?" they exclaimed. Jesus looked at them.
26 Kodwa uJesu wabakhangela wathi kubo: Kubantu kakulakwenzeka, kodwa kuNkulunkulu zonke izinto zingenzeka.
"With men this is impossible," he said, "but with God all things are possible."
27 Khona uPetro waphendula wathi kuye: Khangela, thina sitshiye konke sakulandela; pho sizazuzani?
Whereupon Peter said to Jesus. "Look, Master, we have forsaken everything and followed you. Now what shall be our reward?"
28 UJesu wasesithi kubo: Ngiqinisile ngithi kini: Lina elingilandeleyo, ekuvuselelweni lapho iNdodana yomuntu isihlezi esihlalweni sobukhosi senkazimulo yayo, lani lizahlala ezihlalweni zobukhosi ezilitshumi lambili lahlulele izizwe ezilitshumi lambili zakoIsrayeli.
"In solemn truth I tell you," Jesus answered, "that in the New Creation, when the Son of man shall sit on the throne of his glory, you also who have followed me shall sit on twelve thrones, to govern the twelve tribes of Israel.
29 Laye wonke otshiye izindlu, kumbe abafowabo, kumbe odadewabo, kumbe uyise, kumbe unina, kumbe umkakhe, kumbe abantwana, kumbe amasimu, ngenxa yebizo lami, uzakwemukela ngekhulu, adle ilifa lempilo elaphakade. (aiōnios g166)
"And every one who has left houses, or brothers, or sisters, or father, or mother, or children, or lands, for my sake, shall many times as much, and fall heir to eternal life. (aiōnios g166)
30 Kodwa abanengi abokuqala bazakuba ngabokucina, labokucina ngabokuqala.
"But many who are first shall be last, and many who are last shall be first.
