1 AbaFarisi labaSadusi sebezile, bemlinga bamcela ukuthi abatshengise isibonakaliso esivela ezulwini.
And the Pharisees and Sadducees having come to Him, tempting Him, asked Him to show them a sign from heaven.
2 Kodwa waphendula wathi kubo: Kusihlwa lithi: Umkhathi muhle; ngoba isibhakabhaka sibomvu;
And He responding said to them, It being evening, you say, It will be fair weather: because the sky is red:
3 lekuseni lithi: Umkhathi mubi lamuhla; ngoba isibhakabhaka sibomvu sinyukubele. Bazenzisi, liyakwazi ukwehlukanisa umumo wesibhakabhaka; kodwa izibonakaliso zezikhathi lingeke yini?
and in the morning, It will be stormy to-day: for the lowering sky is red: ye hypocrites, you know how to discern the face of the sky: but are you not able to discern the signs of the times?
4 Isizukulwana esibi lesifebayo sidinga isibonakaliso; kodwa kasiyikunikwa isibonakaliso, ngaphandle kwesibonakaliso sikaJona umprofethi. Wasebatshiya, wahamba.
A wicked and adulterous generation seeks after a sign. And no sign shall be given it, except the sign of the prophet Jonah. And leaving them, He departed.
5 Sebefikile ngaphetsheya abafundi bakhe babekhohliwe ukuthatha izinkwa.
His disciples having come to the other side forgot to take bread.
6 UJesu wasesithi kubo: Nanzelelani liqaphele imvubelo yabaFarisi labaSadusi.
And Jesus said to them; See and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
7 Basebekhulumisana besithi: Ngoba singathathanga izinkwa.
And they were reasoning among themselves, saying, That it is because we did not take bread.
8 UJesu esekwazi wathi kubo: Lina abokholo oluncinyane, kungani likhulumisana ngokuthi alithathanga izinkwa?
And Jesus knowing said to them, Why do you reason among yourselves, O ye of little faith, because you did not take bread?
9 Kalikaqedisisi yini, futhi kalikhumbuli izinkwa ezinhlanu zenkulungwane ezinhlanu, lokuthi labutha izitsha ezingaki?
Do you not yet understand? do you not remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many baskets ye took up?
10 Futhi lezinkwa eziyisikhombisa zenkulungwane ezine, lokuthi labutha izitsha ezingaki?
Nor the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many baskets you took up?
11 Kaliqedisisi njani, ukuthi bekungemayelana lesinkwa ebengikukhuluma kini ukuthi liqaphele imvubelo yabaFarisi labaSadusi?
How do you not understand that I did not speak to you concerning bread, to beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the Sadducees.
12 Basebeqedisisa ukuthi katshongo ukuthi baqaphele imvubelo yezinkwa, kodwa imfundiso yabaFarisi labaSadusi.
Then they understood that He did not say to beware of the leaven of the (bread) of the Pharisees and Sadducees, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
13 Kwathi uJesu esefikile kungxenye zeKesariya yeFiliphu wababuza abafundi bakhe, esithi: Abantu bathi, mina, iNdodana yomuntu, ngingubani?
And Jesus having come into the regions of Caesarea Philippi, asked His disciples, saying, Whom do the people say that I, the Son of man, am?
14 Basebesithi: Abanye bathi: NguJohane uMbhabhathizi; labanye bathi: NguElija; labanye bathi: NguJeremiya, kumbe ngomunye wabaprofethi.
And they said, Some, John the Baptist; and some, Elijah; and others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.
15 Wathi kubo: Lina-ke lithi ngingubani?
And He says to them, But whom do you say that I am?
16 USimoni Petro wasephendula wathi: Wena unguKristu, iNdodana kaNkulunkulu ophilayo.
And Simon Peter responding said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
17 UJesu wasephendula wathi kuye: Ubusisiwe, Simoni ndodana kaJona, ngoba inyama legazi kakukwembulelanga lokhu, kodwa uBaba osemazulwini.
And Jesus responding said to him, Blessed art thou, Simon the son of Jonah: because flesh and blood did not reveal it to thee, but my Father who is in the heavens.
18 Lami-ke ngiyakutshela, ukuthi wena unguPetro; laphezu kwalelidwala ngizalakha ibandla lami, lamasango esihogo kawayikulehlula. (Hadēs g86)
And I say to thee, that thou art Peter, and upon this rock will I build my Church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. (Hadēs g86)
19 Futhi ngizakunika izihluthulelo zombuso wamazulu; njalo loba yini ozayibopha emhlabeni, izakuba ibotshiwe emazulwini; njalo loba yini ozayithukulula emhlabeni, izakuba ithukululwe emazulwini.
And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of the heavens: and whatsoever you may bind on the earth, shall be bound in the heavens; and whatsoever you may loose on earth shall be loosed in the heavens.
20 Wasebalayisisa abafundi ukuthi bangatsheli muntu ukuthi yena unguJesu onguKristu.
Then He commanded His disciples that they should tell no one that He is the Christ.
21 Kusukela kulesosikhathi uJesu waqala ukubatshengisa abafundi bakhe ukuthi umele ukuya eJerusalema, njalo ahlupheke okunengi ngabadala labapristi abakhulu lababhali, abulawe, avuswe ngosuku lwesithathu.
And from this time Jesus began to show to His disciples, that it behooves Him to go away to Jerusalem, and to suffer many things from the elders and the chief priest and the scribes, and to be killed, and rise the third day.
22 UPetro wasesiya laye eceleni waqala ukumkhuza esithi: Kakungabi kuwe, Nkosi; lokhu kakusoze kwenziwa kuwe.
And Peter taking Him to him, began to rebuke Him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord; because this shall not be unto thee.
23 Kodwa yena watshibilika wathi kuPetro: Suka ngemva kwami, Sathane, uyisikhubekiso kimi; ngoba kawucabangi izinto zikaNkulunkulu, kodwa ezabantu.
And turning He said to Peter, Get behind me, adversary: thou art my stumbling-block; because thou art not thinking about the things of God, but those of men.
24 UJesu wasesithi kubafundi bakhe: Uba umuntu ethanda ukuza ngemva kwami, kazidele, athathe isiphambano sakhe, angilandele.
Then Jesus said to His disciples, If any one wishes to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
25 Ngoba loba ngubani othanda ukusindisa impilo yakhe izamlahlekela; kodwa loba ngubani olahlekelwa yimpilo yakhe ngenxa yami uzayithola;
For whosoever may wish to save his soul shall lose it: and whosoever may lose his soul for my sake shall find it.
26 ngoba kuzamsizani umuntu nxa ezuza umhlaba wonke, kodwa alahlekelwe ngumphefumulo wakhe? Kumbe umuntu uzanikani kube lihlawulo lomphefumulo wakhe?
For what is a man profited, if he may gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?
27 Ngoba iNdodana yomuntu izakuza ngenkazimulo kaYise kanye lengilosi zayo, khona izavuza ngulowo lalowo njengokwenza kwakhe.
For the Son of man is about to come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and then He will give to each one according to his works.
28 Ngiqinisile ngithi kini: Bakhona abanye kwabemiyo lapha, abangasoze bezwe ukufa, baze bayibone iNdodana yomuntu isiza embusweni wayo.
Truly I say unto you, There are some of those standing here, who may not taste of death, until they may see the Son of man coming in His kingdom.
