< UJohane 2 >
1 Kwathi ngosuku lwesithathu kwaba khona umtshado eKana yeGalili; lonina kaJesu wayekhona lapho;
On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and Jesus' mother was there.
2 njalo uJesu laye wayenxusiwe labafundi bakhe emtshadweni.
Jesus was also invited to the wedding, and so were his disciples.
3 Kwathi iwayini selisweleka, unina kaJesu wathi kuye: Kabalalo iwayini.
When the wine ran out, Jesus' mother said to him, “They have no wine.”
4 UJesu wathi kuye: Mama, ngilani lawe? Ihola lami kalikafiki.
Jesus said to her, “Woman, what concern is that to yoʋ or to me? My hour has not yet come.”
5 Unina wathi kuzinceku: Yenzani loba yikuphi azalitshela khona.
But his mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”
6 Kwakukhona lapho imbiza zamanzi ezamatshe zimiswe njengokokuhlambulula kwamaJuda, inye ingena amaphoco amabili kumbe amathathu.
Now six stone water jars had been set there for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty to thirty gallons.
7 UJesu wathi kuzo: Gcwalisani imbiza zamanzi ngamanzi. Zasezizigcwalisa zathi kliki.
Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water.” So they filled them up to the brim.
8 Wasesithi kuzo: Khanini khathesi, lise kumphathi wokudla. Zasezikusa.
Then he said to them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the feast.” So they took it,
9 Umphathi wokudla esizwa amanzi asebe liwayini, engazi ukuthi livela ngaphi (kodwa inceku ezaziwakhile amanzi zazisazi), umphathi wokudla wabiza umyeni,
and the master of the feast tasted the water, which had been turned into wine. He did not know where it had come from, but the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then the master of the feast called the bridegroom aside
10 wasesithi kuye: Wonke umuntu uletha iwayini elimnandi kuqala, kuthi lapho sebenathile kakhulu, abeseletha elibi; wena ugcinile iwayini elimnandi kwaze kwaba khathesi.
and said to him, “Everyone else serves the good wine first, and then the inferior wine after the guests have drunk freely; but yoʋ have kept the good wine until now.”
11 Lokho kuyikuqala kwezibonakaliso uJesu akwenza eKana yeGalili wabonakalisa inkazimulo yakhe; labafundi bakhe bakholwa kuye.
Jesus did this in Cana of Galilee as the first of his signs. He revealed his glory, and his disciples believed in him.
12 Emva kwalokho wehlela eKapenawume, yena, lonina, labafowabo, labafundi bakhe; njalo bahlala khona kungeyisikho okwensuku ezinengi.
After this he went down to Capernaum with his mother, his brothers, and his disciples, and they stayed there for a few days.
13 Iphasika lamaJuda laselisondele, uJesu wasesenyukela eJerusalema.
Now the Passover of the Jews was near, so Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
14 Wafica ethempelini labo abathengisa inkabi lezimvu lamajuba, labantshintshi bemali behlezi.
In the temple courts he found those who were selling oxen, sheep, and doves, and he also found the money changers sitting at their tables.
15 Esenze isiswepu sezintambo wabaxotsha bonke ethempelini, izimvu kanye lenkabi; wachitha imali yabantshintshisayo, wagenqula amatafula;
So he made a whip of cords and drove them all out of the temple courts, along with their sheep and oxen. He also poured out the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables.
16 wasesithi kwabathengisa amajuba: Susani lezizinto lapha; lingenzi indlu kaBaba indlu yokuthengisela.
Then he said to those who were selling doves, “Take these things away from here; stop making my Father's house a marketplace.”
17 Abafundi bakhe basebekhumbula ukuthi kulotshiwe ukuthi: Ukutshisekela indlu yakho kungidlile.
And his disciples remembered that it is written, “Zeal for yoʋr house will consume me.”
18 Ngakho amaJuda aphendula athi kuye: Usitshengisa isibonakaliso bani, sokuthi wenze lezizinto?
In response the Jews said to him, “What sign can yoʋ show us to prove yoʋr authority to do these things?”
19 UJesu waphendula wathi kuwo: Dilizani lelithempeli, njalo ngensuku ezintathu ngizalivusa.
Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”
20 AmaJuda asesithi: Okweminyaka engamatshumi amane lesithupha lelithempeli lakhiwa, wena-ke uzalivusa ngensuku ezintathu yini?
The Jews said, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and will yoʋ raise it up in three days?”
21 Kodwa yena wayekhuluma ngethempeli lomzimba wakhe.
But he was speaking about the temple of his body.
22 Ngakho, kwathi esevukile kwabafileyo, abafundi bakhe bakhumbula ukuthi wayekutshilo lokhu kubo; bakholwa umbhalo, lelizwi ayelitshilo uJesu.
So when he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this, and they believed the Scripture and the word that Jesus had spoken.
23 Njalo kwathi eseJerusalema ngephasika, emkhosini, abanengi bakholwa ebizweni lakhe, bebona izibonakaliso zakhe azenzayo;
While Jesus was in Jerusalem during the feast of the Passover, many believed in his name because they saw the signs he was doing.
24 kodwa uJesu ngokwakhe kazinikelanga yena kubo, ngoba yena wayebazi bonke,
But Jesus did not entrust himself to them, for he knew all men.
25 langenxa yokuthi wayengasweli ukuthi loba ngubani afakaze ngomuntu; ngoba yena wayekwazi okusemuntwini.
He did not need anyone to testify about man, for he himself knew what was in man.
