UJohane 13
1 Kwathi ungakafiki umkhosi wephasika, uJesu esazi ukuthi ihola lakhe laselifikile ukuthi asuke kulumhlaba aye kuYise, esebathandile abakhe abasemhlabeni, wabathanda kwaze kwaba sekupheleni.
Now before the feast of the Passover, Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart from this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.
2 Ukudla kwantambama sekwenziwe, udiyabhola esekufakile enhliziyweni kaJudasi Iskariyothi, kaSimoni, ukuthi amnikele,
By the time supper ended, the devil had put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, to betray Jesus.
3 uJesu ekwazi ukuthi uYise unikele izinto zonke ezandleni zakhe, lokuthi wavela kuNkulunkulu njalo uya kuNkulunkulu,
Jesus knew that the Father had put all things into his hands, and that he had come from God and was going back to God,
4 wasukuma ekudleni kwantambama, wakhupha izembatho zakhe, wathatha ilembu wazithandela ngalo.
so he rose from supper, laid aside his outer garments, took a towel, and wrapped it around his waist.
5 Emva kwalokhu wathela amanzi emganwini, waqala ukugezisa inyawo zabafundi, lokuzesula ngelembu ayezithandele ngalo.
After that, he put water into the washbasin and began to wash his disciples' feet and to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around his waist.
6 Wasefika kuSimoni Petro; yena wasesithi kuye: Nkosi, wena ugezisa inyawo zami yini?
When he came to Simon Peter, Peter said to him, “Lord, are yoʋ going to wash my feet?”
7 UJesu waphendula wathi kuye: Engikwenzayo mina, kawukwazi khathesi, kodwa uzakwazi emva kwalezizinto.
Jesus answered him, “What I am doing yoʋ do not now understand, but afterward yoʋ will understand.”
8 UPetro wathi kuye: Kawusoze ugezise inyawo zami kuze kube laphakade. UJesu wamphendula wathi: Uba ngingakugezisi, kawulasabelo lami. (aiōn g165)
Peter said to him, “Yoʋ shall never wash my feet.” Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash yoʋ, yoʋ have no part with me.” (aiōn g165)
9 USimoni Petro wathi kuye: Nkosi, kakungabi zinyawo zami zodwa, kodwa lezandla lekhanda.
Simon Peter said to him, “Lord, then wash not only my feet, but also my hands and my head.”
10 UJesu wathi kuye: Ogezisiweyo kasweli lutho ngaphandle kokugeziswa inyawo, kodwa uhlambulukile ngokupheleleyo; lina-ke lihlambulukile, kodwa-ke kakusini lonke.
Jesus said to him, “He who has bathed has no need to wash, except for his feet, but is completely clean. And you are clean, but not all of you.”
11 Ngoba wayemazi lowo owayezamnikela; ngenxa yalokhu wathi: Kalihlambulukanga lonke.
(For he knew who would betray him; that is why he said, “You are not all clean.”)
12 Esegezisile inyawo zabo, wathatha izembatho zakhe, wabuya wahlala phansi, wathi kubo: Liyakwazi yini engikwenze kini?
When Jesus had washed their feet and collected his garments, he reclined again at the table and said to them, “Do you know what I have done for you?
13 Lina lingibiza lithi: Mfundisi, lokuthi Nkosi; likutsho kuhle, ngoba ngiyikho.
You call me Teacher and Lord, and rightly so, for that is what I am.
14 Ngakho uba mina, iNkosi loMfundisi, ngigezise inyawo zenu, lani-ke lifanele ukugezisana inyawo.
So if I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet.
15 Ngoba ngilinikile isibonelo, ukuze lenze lani njengoba mina ngenzile kini.
For I have given you an example so that you should do as I have done for you.
16 Ngiqinisile, ngiqinisile, ngithi kini: Inceku kayinkulu kulenkosi yayo, lothunyiweyo kamkhulu kulomthumileyo.
Truly, truly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him.
17 Uba lisazi lezizinto, libusisiwe uba lizenza.
Now that you know these things, you are blessed if you do them.
18 Kangikhulumi ngani lonke; mina ngiyabazi engibakhethileyo; kodwa ukuze kugcwaliseke umbhalo othi: Odla lami isinkwa ungiphakamisele isithende sakhe.
I am not speaking about all of you; I know whom I have chosen. But this Scripture must be fulfilled: ‘He who eats bread with me has lifted up his heel against me.’
19 Sengilitshela kusukela khathesi kungakenzeki, ukuze, nxa sekusenzeka, likholwe ukuthi nginguye.
I am telling you now before it happens, so that when it does happen, you will believe that I am he.
20 Ngiqinisile, ngiqinisile, ngithi kini: Owemukela loba ngubani engimthumileyo, wemukela mina; lowemukela mina, wemukela ongithumileyo.
Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever receives the one I send receives me, and whoever receives me receives him who sent me.”
21 UJesu esetshilo lezizinto wakhathazeka emoyeni, wafakaza wathi: Ngiqinisile, ngiqinisile, ngithi kini, omunye wenu uzanginikela.
After saying these things, Jesus was troubled in his spirit and declared, “Truly, truly, I say to you, one of you will betray me.”
22 Ngakho abafundi bakhangelana, bengaqondi ukuthi ukhuluma ngobani.
So the disciples began looking at one another, perplexed as to whom he was speaking about.
23 Kwakweyeme esifubeni sikaJesu omunye wabafundi bakhe, uJesu ayemthanda;
One of his disciples, the one whom Jesus loved, was reclining on Jesus' chest.
24 ngakho uSimoni Petro wamqhweba ukubuza ukuthi ngubani akhuluma ngaye.
So Simon Peter motioned to him to ask Jesus whom he was talking about.
25 Yena-ke eqamela esifubeni sikaJesu, wathi kuye: Nkosi, ngubani?
Leaning back on Jesus' chest, he said to him, “Lord, who is it?”
26 UJesu waphendula wathi: Ngulowo mina engizamnika ucezu sengilutshebile. Kwathi eselutshebile ucezu, walunika uJudasi Iskariyothi kaSimoni.
Jesus answered, “It is the one to whom I give this morsel after I have dipped it.” Then he dipped the morsel and gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon.
27 Futhi emva kocezu, uSathane wasengena kuye. UJesu wasesithi kuye: Okwenzayo, kwenze masinyane.
After Judas took the morsel, Satan entered into him. Then Jesus said to him, “What yoʋ are about to do, do quickly.”
28 Kodwa kakho kwababehlezi ekudleni owayekwazi ukuthi ukutsholoni kuye.
(Now no one at the table knew why he said this to him.
29 Ngoba abanye bacabanga ukuthi, njengoba uJudasi wayelesikhwama, uJesu wathi kuye: Thenga esikuswelayo emkhosini; loba ukuthi kanike abayanga okunye.
Some were thinking, since Judas had the moneybag, that Jesus was saying to him, “Buy what we need for the feast,” or that he should give something to the poor.)
30 Lowo wathi eselwemukele ucezu, wahle waphuma; kwakusebusuku.
As soon as Judas took the morsel, he went out. And it was night.
31 Ngakho kwathi esephumile, uJesu wathi: Khathesi iNdodana yomuntu idunyisiwe, loNkulunkulu udunyisiwe kuyo.
When Judas had gone out, Jesus said, “Now the Son of Man is glorified, and God is glorified in him.
32 Uba uNkulunkulu edunyiswe kuyo, loNkulunkulu uzayidumisa kuye ngokwakhe, njalo uzahle ayidumise.
And if God is glorified in him, God will also glorify the Son in himself, and will glorify him immediately.
33 Bantwanyana, ngiselani isikhatshana. Lizangidinga, futhi njengalokhu ngatsho kumaJuda ukuthi: Lapho mina engiya khona, lingeze leza lina; ngitsho lakini khathesi.
Little children, I am with you for a little while longer. You will seek me, and just as I said to the Jews, now I say to you also, ‘Where I am going, you cannot come.’
34 Ngilinika umlayo omutsha, ukuthi lithandane; njengalokhu ngilithandile, lani-ke lithandane.
I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, so you must love one another.
35 Ngalokhu bonke bazakwazi ukuthi lingabafundi bami, uba lilothando omunye komunye.
By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
36 USimoni Petro wathi kuye: Nkosi, uya ngaphi? UJesu wamphendula wathi: Lapho engiya khona, ungengilandele khathesi, kodwa uzangilandela emva kwalokhu.
Simon Peter said to him, “Lord, where are yoʋ going?” Jesus answered him, “Yoʋ cannot follow me now to the place where I am going, but afterward yoʋ will follow me.”
37 UPetro wathi kuye: Nkosi, ngingekulandele khathesi ngani? Impilo yami ngizayibekela wena phansi.
Peter said to him, “Lord, why can I not follow yoʋ now? I will lay down my life for yoʋ.”
38 UJesu wamphendula wathi: Impilo yakho uzayibekela mina phansi yini? Ngiqinisile, ngiqinisile, ngithi kuwe: Iqhude kalisoze likhale uze ungiphike kathathu.
Jesus answered him, “Yoʋ will lay down yoʋr life for me? Truly, truly, I say to yoʋ, a rooster will certainly not crow until yoʋ have denied me three times.”
