1 Ngakho, bazalwane abangcwele, bahlanganyeli bobizo lwasezulwini, qaphelani umphostoli lompristi omkhulu wovumo lwethu, uKristu Jesu,

Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, attentively consider Jesus, the Apostle and High Priest whom we have confessed;

2 othembeke kulowo owammisayo, njengoMozisi laye wayenjalo endlini yakhe yonke.

who, as well as Moses, is faithful to him that appointed him over all his house.

3 Ngoba kwathiwa lo ufanele udumo olukhulu kuloMozisi, njengoba ulodumo olukhulu kulendlu ayakhileyo.

Indeed, he has been accounted worthy of glory, as far superior to Moses, as that of the builder is superior to the house.

4 Ngoba yonke indlu yakhiwa ngothile; kodwa owakha izinto zonke nguNkulunkulu.

Now every house is built by some one; but he, the builder of all things, is God.

5 UMozisi kambe wayethembekile endlini yonke yakhe njengenceku, kuze kube yibufakazi bezinto ebezizakhulunywa;

And Moses, indeed, as a servant, was faithful in all his house, for a testimony of the things that were to be spoken by him;

6 kodwa uKristu njengendodana phezu kwendlu yakhe; esiyindlu yakhe thina, uba-ke sibambelela ngokuqina isibindi lokuziqhenya kwethemba kuze kube sekupheleni.

but Christ, as a Son, over his own house--whose house we are, if we hold fast our confidence, and the rejoicing of our hope, unshaken to the end.

7 Ngakho njengoba uMoya oyiNgcwele esithi: Lamuhla uba lilizwa ilizwi lakhe,

Wherefore, as the Holy Spirit says, "To-day, if you will hear his voice,

8 lingazenzi zibe lukhuni inhliziyo zenu, njengekucunuleni, ngosuku lokulingwa enkangala,

harden not your hearts, as in the bitter provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness;

9 lapho oyihlo bangilinga, bengihlola, basebebona imisebenzi yami okweminyaka engamatshumi amane;

where your fathers tempted me, and proved me, yet saw my works for forty years.

10 ngakho ngasithukuthelela lesosizukulwana, ngathi: Bayaduha kokuphela enhliziyweni; lalaba kabazazanga indlela zami;

Wherefore, I was displeased with that generation, and said, They always err in heart, and they have not known my ways.

11 ngaze ngafunga ekuthukutheleni kwami ngathi: Kabayikungena ekuphumuleni kwami.

So, I swore, in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest."

12 Nanzelelani, bazalwane, hlezi kuzakuba khona loba nini phakathi komunye wenu inhliziyo embi yokungakholwa, ekuduheni kuNkulunkulu ophilayo;

Brethren, take heed, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, by departing from the living God.

13 kodwa khuthazanani insuku ngensuku, kusathiwa lamuhla, ukuze kungabi khona kini owenziwa lukhuni ngenkohliso yesono;

But, lest any of you be hardened, through the deceitfulness of sin, exhort one another every day, while it is called To-day:

14 ngoba sesibe ngabahlanganyeli bakaKristu, uba-ke sibambisisa isiqalo sokuqiniseka kuze kube sekupheleni;

(for we are all partakers of Christ, if, indeed, we hold fast this first confidence firm to the end; )

15 kusathiwa: Lamuhla uba lilizwa ilizwi lakhe, lingazenzi zibe lukhuni inhliziyo zenu, njengekucunuleni.

with this saying, "To-day, if you will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the bitter provocation."

16 Ngoba abanye sebezwile bathukuthelisa, kodwa kakusibo bonke labo abaphuma eGibhithe ngoMozisi.

For some, when they heard, did bitterly provoke; yet, not all that came out of Egypt by Moses.

17 Kodwa ngobani athukutheliswa yibo okweminyaka engamatshumi amane? Kakusibo labo abonayo yini, abazidumbu zabo zawela enkangala?

Was it not with them who sinned, whose carcasses fell in the wilderness?

18 Ngobani-ke afunga kubo ukuthi kabazukungena ekuphumuleni kwakhe, ngaphandle kwalabo abangalalelanga?

And to whom did he swear, that they should not enter into his rest, but to them who did not believe?

19 Ngakho siyabona ukuthi babengelakungena ngenxa yokungakholwa.

So, we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.
