1 Ngenxa yalokhu kufanele siqaphelisise izinto esizizwileyo, hlezi mhlawumbe sikhukhulwe.
For this reason we must pay the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, for fear we should drift away.
2 Ngoba uba ilizwi elakhulunywa zingilosi laqiniseka, lakho konke ukuphambuka lokungalaleli kwemukela ukuphindisela ngokufaneleyo,
For if the word uttered through angels stood firm, so that every transgression and act of disobedience met with its just retribution, how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation?
3 thina sizaphepha njani uba sidelela usindiso olungaka? Olwaqala ukukhulunywa yiNkosi, lwaqiniswa kithi yilabo abayizwayo,
Which having begun to be spoken by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him;
4 uNkulunkulu efakaza kanye labo ngezibonakaliso lezimangaliso, lemisebenzi yamandla eyizinhlobonhlobo, lokwabelwa kukaMoya oNgcwele, njengokwentando yakhe.
God himself corroborating their testimony by signs and wonders and a variety of miraculous powers, and by gifts of the Holy Spirit imparted in accordance with his own will.
5 Ngoba kehliselanga ngaphansi kwezingilosi ilizwe elizayo, esikhuluma ngalo.
It is not to angels that God subjected the age to be, of which we are speaking.
6 Kodwa omunye ufakazile endaweni ethile esithi: Umuntu uyini, ukuthi umkhumbule, kumbe indodana yomuntu, ukuthi uyinanze?
But some one, somewhere, testified, saying. What is Man, that thou art mindful of him? Or any man, that thou carest for him?
7 Wamenza waba phansi kancinyane kulezingilosi; wamethwesa umqhele wenkazimulo lodumo; wammisa phezu kwemisebenzi yezandla zakho;
Thou hast made him only a little lower that the angels; With glory and honor hast thou crowned him; And hast set him to govern the works of thy hands;
8 izinto zonke wazehlisela ngaphansi kwenyawo zakhe. Ngoba ekwehliseni izinto zonke ngaphansi kwakhe, katshiyanga lutho olungehliselwanga kuye. Kodwa khathesi kasikaziboni izinto zonke zehliselwe kuye.
Thou hast put all things under his feet. For this putting all things under man means leaving nothing not subject to him. But we do not yet see all things subject to him.
9 Kodwa siyambona uJesu, owenziwa waba phansi kancinyane kulezingilosi, ngenxa yenhlupheko yokufa, etheswe umqhele wobukhosi lodumo, ukuze ngomusa kaNkulunkulu azwele wonke ukufa.
What we do see is Jesus, who was made for a time a little lower than the angels, now crowned with glory and honor, because of the suffering of death, in order that through God’s grace he might taste death for every man.
10 Ngoba kwakumfanele, ezikhona zonke izinto ngenxa yakhe, lezikhona zonke ngaye, ukuthi, lapho eletha abantwana abanengi enkazimulweni, amphelelise umkhokheli wosindiso lwabo ngezinhlupheko.
For it befitted him, for whom and through whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the Pioneer of their salvation perfect through sufferings.
11 Ngoba lalowo ongcwelisayo labangcwelisiweyo, bonke bavela koyedwa; ngalesosizatho kalanhloni ukubabiza ngokuthi ngabafowabo,
For both he who sanctifies and those whom he is sanctifying are all from One; for which reason he is not ashamed to call them brothers, saying.
12 esithi: Ngizatshumayela ibizo lakho kubafowethu, ngizakuhlabelela indumiso phakathi kwebandla.
I will proclaim thy name to my brothers; In the midst of the Church I will hymn thy praises.
13 Futhi-ke: Mina ngizathemba kuye. Futhi-ke: Khangela mina labantwana uNkulunkulu anginike bona.
And again, I myself will put my trust in God. And again, Lo, I and the children God has given me.
14 Ngakho njengoba abantwana behlanganyele inyama legazi, laye uqobo wahlanganyela khona lokho, ukuze ngokufa amchithe yena obelamandla okufa, ongudiyabhola,
Therefore, since the children are sharers in flesh and blood, he also similarly partook of the same, in order that through death he might render powerless him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;
15 abakhulule labo bonke abathi ngokwesaba ukufa impilo yabo yonke babebanjwe ebugqilini.
And might deliver those who through fear of death had been subject to life-long bondage.
16 Ngoba isibili kazithatheli izingilosi, kodwa uzithathela inzalo kaAbrahama.
For assuredly it is not angels, nay, it is the offspring of Abraham, whom he is ever taking by the hand.
17 Ngenxa yalokho kwamfanela ukuthi abe njengabafowabo kuzo zonke izinto, ukuze abe ngumpristi omkhulu olesihawu lothembekileyo ezintweni ezimayelana loNkulunkulu, ukuze enze inhlawulo yokuthula ngezono zabantu.
And so it was necessary that he should in all points be made like his brothers, so that he might become a compassionate and faithful high priest, in all that relates to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.
18 Ngoba kulokhu ahlupheke kukho yena uqobo elingwa, ulamandla okusiza abalingwayo.
For inasmuch as he himself has suffered, being tempted, he is also able instantly to succor those who are tempted, he is also able instantly to succor those who are tempted.
