1 Sasesiphenduka, sasuka saya enkangala, indlela yoLwandle oluBomvu, njengokutsho kweNkosi kimi; njalo sayibhoda intaba yeSeyiri insuku ezinengi.
Then we turned, and took our journey into the wilderness by the way to the Red Sea, as the LORD spoke to me; and we encircled Mount Seir many days.
2 INkosi yasikhuluma kimi isithi:
The LORD spoke to me, saying,
3 Selibhode intaba le okweneleyo; phendukelani lina enyakatho.
"You have encircled this mountain long enough. Turn northward.
4 Balaye-ke abantu usithi: Lidabula umngcele wabafowenu, abantwana bakaEsawu abahlala eSeyiri. Njalo bazalesaba, ngakho lizinanzelele kakhulu,
Command the people, saying, 'You are to pass through the border of your brothers the descendants of Esau, who dwell in Seir; and they will be afraid of you: take good heed to yourselves therefore;
5 lingalwi labo; ngoba kangiyikulinika okwelizwe labo, lelingangokunyathela kwangaphansi konyawo, ngoba ngimnikile uEsawu intaba yeSeyiri ibe yilifa.
do not contend with them; for I will not give you of their land, no, not so much as for the sole of the foot to tread on; because I have given Mount Seir to Esau for a possession.
6 Lizathenga ukudla kubo ngemali ukuze lidle, lithenge kubo lamanzi ngemali ukuze linathe.
You shall purchase food of them for money, that you may eat; and you shall also buy water of them for money, that you may drink.'"
7 Ngoba iNkosi uNkulunkulu wakho ikubusisile emsebenzini wonke wesandla sakho; iyazi ukuhamba kwakho kulinkangala enkulu. Le iminyaka engamatshumi amane iNkosi uNkulunkulu wakho ibilawe, kawuswelanga lutho.
For the LORD your God has blessed you in all the work of your hand; he has known your walking through this great wilderness: these forty years the LORD your God has been with you; you have lacked nothing.
8 Uba sisedlula sisuka kubafowethu, abantwana bakaEsawu abahlala eSeyiri, ngendlela yegceke sisuke eElathi njalo sisuka eEziyoni-Geberi, saphenduka, sadlula ngendlela yenkangala yakoMowabi.
So we passed by from our brothers the descendants of Esau, who dwell in Seir, from the way of the Arabah from Eilat and from Ezion Geber. We turned and passed by the way of the wilderness of Moab.
9 INkosi yasisithi kimi: Ungahlukuluzi uMowabi, ungalwi labo empini; ngoba kangiyikukunika okwelizwe labo kube yilifa, ngoba ngibanikile abantwana bakaLothi iAri ibe yilifa.
The LORD said to me, "Do not bother Moab, neither contend with them in battle; for I will not give you of his land for a possession; because I have given Ar to the descendants of Lot for a possession."
10 Kwakuhlala khona endulo amaEmi, abantu abakhulu, labanengi, labade, njengamaAnaki;
(The Emim lived there before, a people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakim:
11 babebalwa njengeziqhwaga labo njengamaAnaki, kodwa amaMowabi ababiza ngokuthi ngamaEmi.
these also are accounted Rephaim, as the Anakim; but the Moabites call them Emim.
12 LamaHori ayehlala eSeyiri endulo, kodwa abantwana bakaEsawu bawakhupha emfuyweni yabo, bawachitha phambi kwabo, bahlala endaweni yawo, njengokwenza kukaIsrayeli elizweni lelifa lakhe, iNkosi eyabanika lona.
The Horites also lived in Seir before, but the descendants of Esau succeeded them; and they destroyed them from before them, and lived in their place; as Israel did to the land of his possession, which the LORD gave to them.)
13 Khathesi, sukumani lina lichaphe isifula iZeredi. Ngakho sachapha isifula iZeredi.
"Now rise up, and cross over the Wadi Zered." So we went over the Wadi Zered.
14 Lensuku esahamba ngazo sisuka eKadeshi-Bhaneya saze sachapha isifula iZeredi zaziyiminyaka engamatshumi amathathu lesificaminwembili, kwaze kwaphela isizukulwana sonke samadoda empi sisuka phakathi kwenkamba, njengokufunga kweNkosi kuwo.
The days in which we came from Kadesh Barnea, until we had come over the Wadi Zered, were thirty-eight years; until all the generation of the men of war were consumed from the midst of the camp, as the LORD swore to them.
15 Ngoba isibili isandla seNkosi sasimelene lawo, ukuwachitha esuka phakathi kwenkamba, aze aphela.
Moreover the hand of God was against them, to destroy them from the midst of the camp, until they were consumed.
16 Kwasekusithi lapho wonke amadoda empi esephelile esifa esuka phakathi kwabantu,
So it happened, when all the men of war were consumed and dead from among the people,
17 INkosi yasikhuluma kimi isithi:
that the LORD spoke to me, saying,
18 Lamuhla uzakwedlula iAri, umngcele wakoMowabi,
"You are this day to pass over Ar, the border of Moab:
19 lapho ususondele maqondana labantwana bakoAmoni, ungabahlukuluzi, ungalwi labo, ngoba kangiyikukunika okwelizwe labantwana bakoAmoni kube yilifa, ngoba ngilinike abantwana bakaLothi libe yilifa.
and when you come near over against the people of Ammon, do not bother them, nor contend with them; for I will not give you of the land of the people of Ammon for a possession; because I have given it to the people of Lot for a possession."
20 Lalelo labalwa njengelizwe leziqhwaga. Iziqhwaga zahlala kulo endulo, kodwa amaAmoni bazibiza ngokuthi ngamaZamuzumu;
(That also is accounted a land of Rephaim: Rephaim lived in it before; but the Ammonites call them Zamzummim,
21 abantu abakhulu, labanengi, labade, njengamaAnaki; kodwa iNkosi yabachitha phambi kwabo, babakhupha emfuyweni yabo, bahlala endaweni yabo,
a people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakim; but the LORD destroyed them before them; and they succeeded them, and lived in their place;
22 njengalokho eyakwenzela abantwana bakaEsawu, ababehlala eSeyiri, lapho yawachitha amaHori esuka phambi kwabo, bawakhupha emfuyweni yabo, bahlala endaweni yawo kuze kube lamuhla.
as he did for the descendants of Esau, who dwell in Seir, when he destroyed the Horites from before them; and they succeeded them, and lived in their place even to this day:
23 LamaAvi, ayehlala eHazerimi kuze kube seGaza; amaKafitori, aphuma eKafitori, awachitha, ahlala endaweni yawo.
and the Avvim, who lived in villages as far as Gaza, the Caphtorim, who came forth out of Caphtor, destroyed them, and lived in their place.)
24 Sukumani, lisuke lichaphe isifula iArinoni. Bona, nginikele esandleni sakho uSihoni, inkosi yeHeshiboni, umAmori, lelizwe lakhe; qala ukudla ilifa lalo, ulwe laye empini.
"Rise up, take your journey, and pass over the Valley of the Arnon: look, I have given into your hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his land; begin to possess it, and contend with him in battle.
25 Lamuhla ngizaqalisa ukufaka uvalo ngawe lokwesabeka kwakho phezu kobuso bezizwe, ngaphansi kwamazulu wonke, ezizakuzwa umbiko ngawe, zithuthumele, ziqhaqhazele ngenxa yakho.
This day will I begin to put the dread of you and the fear of you on the peoples who are under the whole sky, who shall hear the report of you, and shall tremble, and be in anguish because of you."
26 Ngasengithuma izithunywa zisuka enkangala yeKedemothi kuSihoni inkosi yeHeshiboni, zilamazwi okuthula, zisithi:
I sent messengers out of the wilderness of Kedemoth to Sihon king of Heshbon with words of peace, saying,
27 Ake ngidabule elizweni lakho; ngizahamba ngomgwaqo kuphela, ngingaphambukeli ngakwesokunene loba ngakwesokhohlo.
"Let me pass through your land: I will go along by the highway, I will turn neither to the right hand nor to the left.
28 Uzangithengisela ukudla ngemali ukuze ngidle, ungiphe amanzi ngemali ukuze nginathe; kuphela ngizadabula ngenyawo zami,
You shall sell me food for money, that I may eat; and give me water for money, that I may drink: only let me pass through on my feet,
29 njengalokhu abantwana bakaEsawu abahlala eSeyiri lamaMowabi ahlala eAri benza kimi, ngize ngichaphe iJordani, ngingene elizweni iNkosi uNkulunkulu wethu esinika lona.
as the people of Esau who dwell in Seir, and the Moabites who dwell in Ar, did to me; until I shall pass over the Jordan into the land which the LORD our God gives us."
30 Kodwa uSihoni inkosi yeHeshiboni kasivumelanga ukuthi sidlule kuye; ngoba iNkosi uNkulunkulu wakho yenza umoya wakhe waba lukhuni, yenza lenhliziyo yakhe yaba lenkani, ukuze imnikele esandleni sakho, njengalamuhla.
But Sihon king of Heshbon would not let us pass by him; for the LORD your God hardened his spirit, and made his heart obstinate, that he might deliver him into your hand, as at this day.
31 INkosi yathi kimi: Bona, sengiqalisile ukunikela phambi kwakho uSihoni lelizwe lakhe; qalisa ukudla ilifa, ukuze udle ilifa lelizwe lakhe.
The LORD said to me, "Look, I have begun to deliver up Sihon and his land before you: begin to possess, that you may inherit his land."
32 Kwasekuphuma uSihoni ukumelana lathi, yena labantu bakhe bonke, ukulwa eJahazi.
Then Sihon came out against us, he and all his people, to battle at Jahaz.
33 INkosi uNkulunkulu wethu yasimnikela phambi kwethu; sasesimtshaya lamadodana akhe labantu bakhe bonke.
The LORD our God delivered him up before us; and we struck him, and his sons, and all his people.
34 Ngalesosikhathi sasesithumba yonke imizi yakhe, satshabalalisa wonke umuzi, abesilisa labesifazana labantwanyana; kasitshiyanga insali;
We took all his cities at that time, and utterly destroyed every inhabited city, with the women and the little ones; we left none remaining:
35 sazithumbela izifuyo kuphela, lempango yemizi esayithumbayo.
only the livestock we took for a prey to ourselves, with the spoil of the cities which we had taken.
36 Kusukela eAroweri esekhunjini lwesifula iArinoni, lomuzi osesifuleni, kuze kube seGileyadi kwakungekho muzi owawuphakeme kakhulu kithi. INkosi uNkulunkulu wethu yayinikela yonke phambi kwethu.
From Aroer, which is on the edge of the Valley of the Arnon, and the city that is in the valley, even to Gilead, there was not a city too high for us; the LORD our God delivered up all before us:
37 Kuphela kawusondelanga elizweni labantwana bakoAmoni, endaweni yonke yesifula iJaboki, lemizini esezintabeni, lakukuphi iNkosi uNkulunkulu wethu esenqabela khona.
only to the land of the people of Ammon you did not come near; all the side of the river Jabbok, and the cities of the hill country, and wherever the LORD our God forbade us.
