1 Ngakho wena, mntanami, qiniswa emuseni okuKristu Jesu.

Yoʋ then, my child, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.

2 Lezinto owazizwa kimi phakathi kwabafakazi abanengi, zinikele ebantwini abathembekileyo, abazakuba lamandla okufundisa labanye.

Entrust what yoʋ have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses to faithful men who will be competent to teach others also.

3 Ngakho wena hlupheka ngobunzima, njengebutho elihle likaJesu Kristu.

Endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.

4 Kakho osebenza njengebutho okhanywa zindaba zempilo, ukuze amkholise lowo ombuthileyo.

No one serving as a soldier entangles himself in the affairs of civilian life, since he seeks to please the one who enlisted him.

5 Futhi nxa umuntu laye encintisana, kanikwa umqhele ngaphandle kokuthi encintisana ngokomthetho.

Similarly, an athlete is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules.

6 Kufanele umlimi osebenza kakhulu emukele kuqala izithelo.

The hardworking farmer ought to receive the first share of the crops.

7 Nakana ngezinto engizitshoyo; njalo sengathi iNkosi ingakunika ukuqedisisa ezintweni zonke.

Think about what I am saying. May the Lord give yoʋ understanding in everything.

8 Khumbula ukuthi uJesu Kristu wavuswa kwabafileyo, owenzalo kaDavida, njengokwevangeli lami;

Remember Jesus Christ, the offspring of David, who was raised from the dead according to my gospel.

9 engihlupheka kulo okubi kuze kube kuzibopho, njengomenzi wobubi; kanti ilizwi likaNkulunkulu kalibotshwanga.

For this gospel I suffer to the point of being chained like a criminal, but the word of God is not chained.

10 Ngakho ngikubekezelele konke ngenxa yabakhethiweyo, ukuze labo bazuze usindiso olukuKristu Jesu, kanye lobukhosi obuphakade. (aiōnios g166)

Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the chosen, so that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory. (aiōnios g166)

11 Lithembekile ilizwi elithi: Ngoba uba safa kanye laye, sizaphila kanye laye futhi;

This saying is trustworthy: If we died with him, we will also live with him;

12 uba sibekezela, lathi sizabusa kanye laye; uba simphika, laye uzasiphika;

if we endure, we will also reign with him; if we deny him, he will also deny us;

13 uba singathembeki, yena uhlala ethembekile; angeziphike yena.

if we are unfaithful, he remains faithful; he cannot deny himself.

14 Bakhumbuze lezizinto, ulayisise phambi kweNkosi ukungaphikisi ngamazwi kokungasizi lutho, kodwa ekuduhisweni kwabezwayo.

Remind the people of these things, solemnly charging them before the Lord not to quarrel about words, which does no good but only leads to the ruin of those who are listening.

15 Khuthalela ukuthi uziveze kuNkulunkulu uthembekile, isisebenzi esingelambangela yokuba lenhloni, esiqondisa kuhle ilizwi leqiniso.

Be diligent to present yoʋrself to God as a proven worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly teaches the word of truth.

16 Kodwa xwaya ukukhuluma okungcolileyo okuyize; ngoba bazaqhubeka ekungamesabini uNkulunkulu okukhulu,

Avoid profane chatter, for those who engage in such talk will stray further and further into ungodliness,

17 lelizwi labo lizabhibhidla okwemvukuzane; okukubo uHimeneyo loFileto;

and their message will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus,

18 abaduhileyo eqinisweni, besithi ukuvuka kwabafileyo sekudlule, begenqula ukholo lwabanye.

who have strayed from the truth, saying that the resurrection has already happened. They are undermining the faith of some.

19 Loba kunjalo isisekelo sikaNkulunkulu simi siqinile, silaloluphawu lokuthi: INkosi iyabazi abangabayo, lokuthi: Wonke obiza ibizo likaKristu kehlukane lokungalungi.

Nevertheless, the foundation of God stands firm, having this seal: “The Lord knows those who are his,” and, “Everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord must depart from unrighteousness.”

20 Kodwa endlini enkulu kakukho izitsha zegolide lezesiliva kuphela, kodwa lezesihlahla lezebumba, njalo ezinye ngezenhlonipho, kodwa ezinye ngezokungahlonitshwa.

Now in a large house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for honorable use and some for dishonorable use.

21 Ngakho uba umuntu ezihlambulula kulezizinto, uzakuba yisitsha senhlonipho, esingcwelisiweyo, njalo esilosizo kumninindlu, sesilungiselwe wonke umsebenzi omuhle.

Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master, and prepared for every good work.

22 Balekela-ke inkanuko yobutsha, kodwa udingisise ukulunga, ukholo, uthando, ukuthula kanye labo ababiza iNkosi kuvela enhliziyweni emhlophe.

Flee youthful lusts and pursue righteousness, faithfulness, love, and peace, along with those who call upon the Lord from a pure heart.

23 Kodwa yala ukuphikisana okobuthutha lokokungafundi, usazi ukuthi kubanga ukulwa.

Have nothing to do with foolish and ignorant controversies, knowing that they breed quarrels.

24 Inceku yeNkosi-ke kayifanele ukulwisa, kodwa ukuba mnene kubo bonke, ibe lelisu lokufundisa, ibekezele,

A servant of the Lord ought not to quarrel, but to be kind to everyone, able to teach, and patient,

25 ibeluleke ngobumnene abalenkani; mhlawumbe uNkulunkulu angabanika ukuphenduka baye kulwazi lweqiniso,

instructing his opponents with gentleness. Perhaps God will grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth.

26 njalo basanguluke kumjibila kadiyabhola, ababanjwe nguye entandweni yakhe.

Then they will come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.
