1 UPawuli, umphostoli kaJesu Kristu njengokomlayo kaNkulunkulu uMsindisi wethu, loweNkosi uJesu Kristu ithemba lethu,
Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the commandment of God our Saviour, and of Christ Jesus our hope:
2 kuTimothi umntanami weqiniso ekholweni: Umusa, isihawu, ukuthula okuvela kuNkulunkulu uBaba wethu loJesu Kristu iNkosi yethu.
To Timothy, his beloved son in faith. Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father, and from Christ Jesus our Lord.
3 Njengoba ngakukhuthaza ukuthi uhlale eEfesu, ngisiya eMakedoniya, ukuze ulaye abathile ukuthi bangafundisi imfundiso eyehlukileyo,
As I desired thee to remain at Ephesus when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some not to teach otherwise,
4 futhi bangananzeleli izinganekwane lendaba zosendo olokuzalana ezingapheliyo, ezibanga ukuphikisana kulokwakha kukaNkulunkulu okusekholweni.
Not to give heed to fables and endless genealogies: which furnish questions rather than the edification of God, which is in faith.
5 Kodwa injongo yomlayo luthando oluvela enhliziyweni emhlophe lakusazela esihle lekholweni olungelakuzenzisa;
Now the end of the commandment is charity, from a pure heart, and a good conscience, and an unfeigned faith.
6 kulokhu abathile abaduhe kukho baphambukela ekukhulumeni okuyize,
From which things some going astray, are turned aside unto vain babbling:
7 befuna ukuthi babe ngabafundisi bomlayo, bengaqedisisi lezinto abazitshoyo, kumbe langezinto abaziqinisayo.
Desiring to be teachers of the law, understanding neither the things they say, nor whereof they affirm.
8 Kodwa siyazi ukuthi umlayo ulungile, uba umuntu ewusebenzisa ngokomlayo,
But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully:
9 esazi lokhu, ukuthi umlayo kawubekelwa olungileyo, kodwa abangelamlayo labangalaleliyo, abeyisa uNkulunkulu labayizoni, abangangcwele labangakholwayo, ababulala oyise lababulala onina, ababulala abantu,
Knowing this, that the law is not made for the just man, but for the unjust and disobedient, for the ungodly, and for sinners, for the wicked and defiled, for murderers of fathers, and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,
10 izifebe, abesilisa abalalanayo, abathumba abantu, abaqambimanga, abephula izifungo, njalo nxa kukhona okunye okuphambene lemfundiso ephilileyo,
For fornicators, for them who defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and whatever other thing is contrary to sound doctrine,
11 njengokwevangeli lenkazimulo kaNkulunkulu obusisiweyo, engaphathiswa lona.
Which is according to the gospel of the glory of the blessed God, which hath been committed to my trust.
12 Ngiyambonga-ke owanginika amandla, uKristu Jesu iNkosi yethu, ukuthi wangibona ngithembekile, wangimisa enkonzweni,
I give thanks who hath strengthened me, even to Christ Jesus our Lord, for that he hath counted me faithful, putting me in the ministry;
13 engangikade ngingumhlambazi lomzingeli lomthuki; kodwa ngahawukelwa, ngoba ngangikwenza ngokungazi ekungakholweni;
Who before was a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and contumelious. But I obtained the mercy of God, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.
14 kodwa umusa weNkosi yethu wengezelelwa kakhulu kanye lokholo lothando olukuKristu Jesu.
Now the grace of our Lord hath abounded exceedingly with faith and love, which is in Christ Jesus.
15 Lithembekile lelilizwi njalo lifanele ukwemukelwa konke, ukuthi uKristu Jesu weza emhlabeni ukusindisa izoni, engiyinduna yazo mina;
A faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into this world to save sinners, of whom I am the chief.
16 kodwa ngenxa yalokhu ngahawukelwa, ukuze kimi engiyinduna uJesu Kristu abonakalise konke ukubekezela, ngibe yisibonelo kwabazakholwa kuye empilweni ephakade. (aiōnios g166)
But for this cause have I obtained mercy: that in me first Christ Jesus might shew forth all patience, for the information of them that shall believe in him unto life everlasting. (aiōnios g166)
17 Kuyo-ke iNkosi eyisimakade, engabhubhiyo, engelakubonwa, uNkulunkulu yedwa ohlakaniphileyo, kakube udumo lobukhosi kuze kube nini lanininini. Ameni. (aiōn g165)
Now to the king of ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen. (aiōn g165)
18 Lumlayo ngiwunika wena, mntanami Timothi, njengeziprofetho ezenzakala kuqala ngawe, ukuze ngazo ulwe ukulwa okuhle,
This precept I commend to thee, O son Timothy; according to the prophecies going before on thee, that thou war in them a good warfare,
19 ubamba ukholo lesazela esihle, abanye abasininayo, bachithekelwa ngumkhumbi mayelana lokholo;
Having faith and a good conscience, which some rejecting have made shipwreck concerning the faith.
20 okukubo uHimeneyo loAleksandro, engibanikele kuSathane, ukuze bafunde ukuthi bangahlambazi.
Of whom is Hymeneus and Alexander, whom I have delivered up to Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme.
