1 Abadala abaphakathi kwenu ngiyabakhuthaza engingomdala kanye labo lomfakazi wenhlupheko zikaKristu, lomhlanganyeli wenkazimulo ezakwembulwa:
The elders who are among you I exhort, I, the fellow elder and witness of Christ's sufferings; also the partaker of the glory that is to be revealed:
2 Yelusani umhlambi kaNkulunkulu ophakathi kwenu, liwubonise kungabi ngokubanjwa ngamandla, kodwa ngesihle; njalo kungabi ngenxa yenzuzo elihlazo, kodwa ngokuvuma,
Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers willingly, not under compulsion; not for dishonest gain but freely;
3 futhi lingabi njengababusi kulabo elabelwa bona, kodwa libe yizibonelo zomhlambi.
neither as lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock.
4 Kuzakuthi lapho uMelusi omkhulu esebonakele lizakwemukela umqhele wobukhosi ongabuniyo.
And when the Chief Shepherd is revealed you will receive the unfading crown of glory.
5 Ngokunjalo, batsha, zehliseleni ngaphansi kwabadala; njalo lonke zehliseni omunye komunye, zembathiseni ukuthobeka; ngoba uNkulunkulu umelana labazigqajayo, kodwa abathobekileyo uyabapha umusa.
Similarly, you younger ones, submit to elders. Yes, all of you clothe yourselves with humility, submitting to one another, because ‘God resists proud ones, but gives grace to humble ones.’
6 Ngakho zehliseleni ngaphansi kwesandla sikaNkulunkulu esilamandla, ukuze aliphakamise ngesikhathi esifaneleyo,
Therefore, humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time;
7 liphosela phezu kwakhe inkathazo zenu zonke, ngoba yena uyalikhathalela.
casting all your care upon Him, because He does the caring for you.
8 Qondani, lilinde, ngoba isitha senu, udiyabhola, siyabhoda njengesilwane esibhongayo sidinga esingamginya;
Be sober, stay alert! Because your enemy the devil, like a roaring lion, is circling you, looking for someone to devour;
9 limelane laye liqinile ekholweni, lisazi ukuthi zona lezonhlupho zapheleliswa kubazalwane benu abasemhlabeni.
withstand him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world.
10 Kodwa uNkulunkulu womusa wonke, owasibizela ebukhosini bakhe obuphakade kuKristu Jesu, sesihlupheke okwesikhatshana, sengathi yena angaliphelelisa, aliqinise, alinike amandla, alisekele. (aiōnios g166)
Now may the God of all grace, who called you into His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, Himself perfect, establish, strengthen and ground you—after you have suffered a while. (aiōnios g166)
To Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen. (aiōn g165)
12 NgoSilivanu ongumzalwane othembekileyo kini, ngokubona kwami, ngibhale ngokufitshane, ngikhuthaza njalo ngifakaza ukuthi lo ngumusa oqotho kaNkulunkulu, elimi kuwo.

14 Bingelelanani ngokwanga kothando. Ukuthula kakube kini lonke elikuKristu Jesu. Ameni.
Greet one another with a kiss of love. Peace be to you, all who are in Christ Jesus. Amen.
