1 Bantwanyana bami, ngilibhalela lezizinto, ukuze lingoni. Njalo loba ngubani nxa esona, siloMmeli kuYise, uJesu Kristu olungileyo;
My little children, I write these things unto you, that ye may not sin. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.
2 njalo yena uyinhlawulo yokuthula yezono zethu; futhi kungeyisizo ezethu zodwa, kodwa lezomhlaba wonke.
And He is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
3 Langalokho siyakwazi ukuthi siyamazi, uba sigcina imilayo yakhe.
And by this we know that we have known Him, if we keep his commandments.
4 Lowo othi: Ngiyamazi, futhi engagcini imilayo yakhe, ungumqambimanga, leqiniso kalikho kuye;
He that saith, I know Him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
5 kodwa lowo ogcina ilizwi lakhe, ngeqiniso uthando lukaNkulunkulu luphelelisiwe kuye. Ngalokho siyazi ukuthi sikuye.
But whosoever keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: and by this we know that we are in Him.
6 Lowo othi uhlala kuye ufanele laye uqobo ahambe kanje, njengoba laye wahamba.
He that saith, he abideth in Him, ought himself also so to walk even as He walked.
7 Bazalwane, kangilibhaleli umlayo omutsha, kodwa umlayo omdala, elalilawo kusukela ekuqaleni; umlayo omdala uyilizwi elalizwayo kusukela ekuqaleni.
Brethren, I write not a new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning: the old commandment is the word which ye have heard from the beginning:
8 Ngiphinda ngilibhalele umlayo omutsha, into eliqiniso kuye, lakini; ngoba ubumnyama buyadlula, lokukhanya kweqiniso sekukhanya.
though I write it again as a new commandment, which is truth in Him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth.
9 Lowo othi usekukhanyeni, futhi ezonda umzalwane wakhe, usemnyameni kuze kube lakhathesi.
Now he that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is still in darkness:
10 Othanda umzalwane wakhe, uhlala ekukhanyeni, njalo kakulasikhubo kuye.
whereas, he that loveth his brother, abideth in the light, and is in no danger of stumbling.
11 Kodwa ozonda umzalwane wakhe usebumnyameni, njalo uhamba ebumnyameni, futhi kakwazi lapho aya khona, ngoba ubumnyama buwaphumputhekisile amehlo akhe.
But he, that hateth his brother, is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not where he goeth, because the darkness hath blinded his eyes.
12 Ngiyalibhalela, bantwanyana, ngoba izono zenu lizithethelelwe ngenxa yebizo lakhe.
I write unto you, little children, because for his sake your sins are forgiven you:
13 Ngiyalibhalela, bobaba, ngoba limazile yena okhona kusukela ekuqaleni. Ngiyalibhalela lina, majaha, ngoba limnqobile omubi. Ngiyalibhalela lina, bantwanyana, ngoba limazile uYise.
I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known Him that is from the beginning: and I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one. Yea I have written to you, little children, because ye have known the Father:
14 Ngilibhalele, bobaba, ngoba limazile okhona kusukela ekuqaleni. Ngilibhalele, majaha, ngoba lilamandla lelizwi likaNkulunkulu lihlala kini njalo limnqobile omubi.
I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known Him that is from the beginning: and I have written to you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one---
15 Lingawuthandi umhlaba loba izinto ezisemhlabeni. Uba umuntu ethanda umhlaba, uthando lukaYise kalukho kuye;
Love not the world, nor the things that are in the world; for if any one love the world to excess, the love of the Father is not in him.
16 ngoba konke okusemhlabeni, inkanuko yenyama, lenkanuko yamehlo, lokuzigqaja kwempilo, kakuveli kuYise kodwa kuvela emhlabeni.
For all that is in the world, the desire of the flesh, and the desire of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but of the world.
17 Lomhlaba uyedlula, lenkanuko zawo; kodwa owenza intando kaNkulunkulu uhlala kuze kube nininini. (aiōn g165)
And the world passeth away, and the desire of it: but he, that doth the will of God, abideth for ever. (aiōn g165)
18 Bantwanyana, kuyisikhathi sokucina; njalo njengalokhu lezwa ukuthi umphikuKristu uyeza, lakhathesi abanengi sebengabaphikuKristu; ngalokhu siyazi ukuthi kuyisikhathi sokucina.
Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that an antichrist will come, there are even now many antichrists, whereby we know that it is the last time.
19 Baphuma kithi, kodwa babengesibo abakithi; ngoba uba babengabakithi, ngabe bahlala lathi; kodwa baphuma ukuze babonakalise ukuthi kabasibo bonke abakithi.
They went out from us, but they were not of us: for if they had been indeed of us, they would have continued with us; but this was done that they might be made manifest, because all, that are with us, are not indeed of us.
20 Kodwa lina lilokugcotshwa okuvela koNgcwele, njalo liyazi izinto zonke.
And ye have an unction from the holy One, and know all.
21 Kangilibhalelanga ngoba lingalazi iqiniso, kodwa ngoba liyalazi, njalo ngoba kakulamanga lakanye avela eqinisweni.
I have not therefore written to you, because ye know not the truth; but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth.
22 Ngubani ongumqambimanga ngaphandle kwalowo ophikayo ukuthi uJesu unguKristu? Yena ungumphikuKristu, ophika uYise leNdodana.
Who is a liar, if not he who denieth that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, that denieth the Father as well as the Son;
23 Wonke ophika iNdodana laye kalaye uYise; ovuma iNdodana uloYise laye.
for whosoever denieth the Son, hath not the Father: but he that confesseth the Son acknowledgeth the Father also.
24 Lina-ke elakuzwayo kusukela ekuqaleni kakuhlale kini. Uba kuhlala kini elakuzwayo kusukela ekuqaleni, lani lizahlala eNdodaneni lakuBaba.
Let that therefore, which ye have heard from the beginning, abide in you: for if that, which ye heard from the beginning, remain in you, ye also will remain in the Son and in the Father.
And this is the promise which He hath promised us, even eternal life. (aiōnios g166)
26 Lezizinto ngalibhalela ngalabo abalikhohlisayo.
These things have I written unto you concerning those who would seduce you.
27 Lina-ke ukugcotshwa elakwemukela kuye kuhlala kini, njalo kalisweli ukuthi umuntu alifundise; kodwa njengoba lokhu ukugcotshwa kuyalifundisa ngakho konke, futhi kuqinisile, njalo kayisiwomanga, futhi njengoba kwalifundisa, lizahlala kuye.
But the unction, which ye have received from Him, abideth in you; and therefore ye have no need that any should teach you: since this very unction teacheth you concerning all things, and is truth and not falshood; even as that hath taught you, abide in Him.
28 Khathesi-ke, bantwanyana, hlalani kuye; ukuze kuthi lapho ebonakala sibe lesibindi, singabi lenhloni phambi kwakhe ekufikeni kwakhe.
And now, little children, abide, I say, in Him; that, when He shall appear, we may have confidence, and may not be ashamed before Him at his coming.
29 Uba lisazi ukuthi ulungile, liyazi ukuthi wonke owenza ukulunga uzelwe nguye.
If ye know that He is righteous, ye know that every one, who practiseth righteousness, is born of Him.
