1 Ngakho, sizakuthini na? Sizaqhubeka sisenza isono ukuze umusa wande na?
What shall we then say? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
2 Akunjalo! Safa ngenxa yesono; pho singaphila kanjani kuso futhi na?
Far be it: for if we are persons that have died to sin, how can we again live in it?
3 Kumbe njalo kalazi yini ukuthi sonke thina esabhaphathizelwa kuJesu Khristu sabhaphathizelwa ekufeni kwakhe na?
Or do ye not know, that we who are baptized into Jesus Messiah, are baptized into his death?
4 Ngakho sangcwatshwa laye ngokubhaphathizelwa ekufeni, ukuze kuthi njengoba uKhristu wavuswa kwabafileyo ngobukhosi bukaYise, lathi siphile ukuphila okutsha.
For we are buried with him in baptism unto death; that as Jesus Messiah arose from the dead into the glory of his Father, so also we, to walk in a new life.
5 Nxa sihlanganiswe laye kanje ekufeni kwakhe, ngempela sizahlanganiswa laye futhi ekuvukeni kwakhe.
For if we have been planted together with him into the likeness of his death, so shall we be also into his resurrection.
6 Ngoba siyakwazi ukuthi ubuntu bethu obudala babethelwa laye ukuze umzimba wesono ulahlwe, khona singezukuba yizigqili zesono futhi,
For we know, that our old man is crucified with him; that the body of sin might be abolished, and we be no more servants to sin:
7 ngoba lowo osefile usekhululwe esonweni.
for he that is dead to it, is emancipated from sin.
8 Nxa safa loKhristu, siyakholwa ukuthi sizaphila laye.
If then we are dead with Messiah, let us believe that we shall live with the same Messiah.
9 Ngoba siyazi ukuthi njengoba uKhristu wavuswa kwabafileyo, angeke afe futhi; ukufa akuselawo amandla phezu kwakhe.
For we know that Messiah rose from the dead, and no more dieth; death hath no dominion over him.
10 Ukufa akufayo wakufela bonke kanye ngenxa yesono; kodwa ukuphila akuphilayo, ukuphilela uNkulunkulu.
For in dying, he died for sin, once; and in living, he liveth unto God.
11 Ngokufanayo, zibaleni njengabafileyo esonweni, kodwa abaphilayo kuNkulunkulu ngoKhristu uJesu.
So also do ye account yourselves as being dead to sin, and alive to God, through our Lord Jesus Messiah.
12 Ngakho lingavumeli isono ukuba sibuse imizimba yenu efayo ukuba livumele izinkanuko zaso ezimbi.
Therefore let not sin reign in your dead body, so that ye obey its lusts.
13 Linganikeli izitho zemizimba yenu esonweni njengezikhali zobubi, kodwa zinikeleni kuNkulunkulu njengabavuswe kwabafileyo balethwa ekuphileni; linikele izitho zemizimba yenu kuye njengezikhali zokulunga.
And also give not up your members as instruments of evil unto sin, but give up yourselves to God, as those who have been resuscitated from the dead; and let your members be instruments for the righteousness of God.
14 Ngoba isono kasiyikuba ngumbusi wenu, ngoba lina kalikho ngaphansi komthetho, kodwa ngaphansi komusa.
And sin shall not have dominion over you; for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
15 Pho-ke, sizakwenza isono ngoba kasikho ngaphansi komthetho, kodwa ngaphansi komusa na? Akunjalo!
What then? Shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? Far be it.
16 Kalazi yini ukuthi nxa lizinikela komunye umuntu ukuba njengezigqili ezilaleyo, liyizigqili kulowo elimlalelayo, langabe liyizigqili zesono, okuholela ekufeni, loba ezokulalela, okuholela ekulungeni na?
Know ye not, that to whomsoever ye give up yourselves to serve in bondage, his servants ye are, whom ye serve; whether it be to sin, or whether it be to righteousness, that ye give ear?
17 Kodwa-ke, kabongwe uNkulunkulu ngokuthi lanxa laliyizigqili zesono, layilalela ngezinhliziyo ezipheleleyo indlela yemfundiso elabekwa kuyo.
But thanks be to God, that ye were once the servants of sin but have now from the heart obeyed that form of doctrine to which ye are devoted.
18 Lakhululwa esonweni laselisiba yizigqili zokulunga.
And when ye were emancipated from sin, ye became servants to righteousness.
19 Lokhu ngikubeka ngamazwi abantu ngoba libuthakathaka ngokwemvelo yobuntu benu. Njengoba lalinikela izitho zemizimba yenu njengezigqili emanyaleni lekuxhwaleni okwandayo, ngakho khathesi zinikeleni njengezigqili ekulungeni okuholela ebungcweleni.
-(I speak as among men, because of the infirmity of your flesh.)-As ye once gave up your members to the servitude of pollution and iniquity, so also now give ye up your members to the servitude of righteousness and sanctity.
20 Lapho laliyizigqili zesono, lalikhululekile emandleni okulunga.
For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were emancipated from righteousness.
21 Ngumvuzo bani elawutholayo ngalesosikhathi ezintweni eseliyangeka ngazo khathesi? Lezozinto ziphetha ngokufa!
And what harvest had ye then, in that of which ye are now ashamed? For the result thereof is death.
22 Kodwa njengoba khathesi selikhululwe esonweni laba yizigqili kuNkulunkulu, umvuzo eliwutholayo uholela ebungcweleni, lesiphetho yikuphila okungapheliyo. (aiōnios g166)
And now, as ye have been emancipated from sin, and have become servants to God, your fruits are holy; and the result thereof is life everlasting. (aiōnios g166)
