1 Oh Thixo, uNkulunkulu ophindiselayo, Oh Nkulunkulu ophindiselayo, khanya uvele.
O God, of vengeance, Lord! O God of vengeance, shine forth.
2 Phakama, awu Mahluli womhlaba; baphindisele abazigqajayo ngokubafaneleyo.
Lift up thyself, O judge of the Earth! bring a recompense upon the proud.
3 Koze kube nini ababi, Oh Thixo, koze kube nini ababi beklamasa na?
How long shall the wicked, O Lord—how long shall the wicked exult?
4 Bathulula amazwi okukloloda; zonke izigangi zifuthelene ngokuzikhukhumeza.
They sputter, they speak hard things: all the workers of wickedness boast themselves.
5 Ziyabanyathezela abantu bakho, Oh Thixo; zincindezela ilifa lakho.
Thy people, O Lord! they crush, and thy heritage they afflict.
6 Zibulala umfelokazi kanye lowezizweni; zibulala intandane.
The widow and the stranger they slay, and the fatherless they murder.
7 Zithi, “UThixo kaboni; uNkulunkulu kaJakhobe kananzi.”
And they say, The Lord will not see, and the God of Jacob will not take notice of it.
8 Limukani, lina elingelangqondo phakathi kwabantu; lina ziphukuphuku, lizahlakanipha nini?
Understand, ye brutish among the people: and ye fools, when will ye become intelligent!
9 Yena lowo owayigxumekayo indlebe kezwa yini? Yena lowo owabumba ilihlo kaboni na?
He that hath planted the ear, shall he not hear? or he that hath formed the eye, shall he not see?
10 Yena lowo oqondisa izizwe kajezisi yini? Yena lowo ofundisa umuntu kalalwazi na?
He that admonisheth nations, shall he not correct? is it not he that teacheth man knowledge!
11 UThixo uyayazi imicabango yomuntu; uyayazi ukuthi iyize nje.
The Lord knoweth the thoughts of man, that they are nought.
12 Ubusisiwe umuntu omqondisayo, Oh Thixo, umuntu omfundisa okomthetho wakho;
Happy is the man whom thou admonisheth, O Lord, and teachest him out of thy law:
13 uyamphumuza ensukwini zokuhlupheka, kuze kuthi ababi bembelwe igodi.
That thou mayest grant him repose from the days of evil, until the pot be dug for the wicked.
14 Ngoba uThixo kazukwala abantu bakhe; kasoze lanini afulathele ilifa lakhe.
For the Lord will not cast off his people, and his inheritance will he not forsake.
15 Ukwahlulela kuzaphinda njalo kumiswe ngokulunga, kuthi bonke abaqotho ngenhliziyo bakulandele.
For unto righteousness will justice return; and it shall be followed by all the upright in heart.
16 Ngubani ozangimela ekulweni lababi na? Ngubani ozangelekelela ekulweni lezigangi na?
Who will rise up for me against evil-doers? or who will stand forward for me against the workers of wickedness?
17 Aluba uThixo wayengangelulekanga, ngabe ngahle ngahlala ngathula zwi ekufeni.
Unless the Lord had been a help unto me, but a little would have been wanting that my soul had dwelt in the silence of death.
18 Lapho ngasengisithi, “Unyawo lwami selutshelela,” uthando lwakho, Oh Thixo, lwangisekela.
When I said, My foot hath slipped: thy kindness, O Lord, sustained me.
19 Nxa ukunqineka kwase kungikhulela, induduzo yakho yaletha intokozo emphefumulweni wami.
In the multitude of my [painful] thoughts within me, thy consolations delight my soul.
20 Kambe isihlalo sobukhosi esixhwalileyo singema lawe yini leso esiletha inhlupheko ngezimemezelo zaso?
Can there be associated with thee the throne of destructive wickedness, which frameth mischief as a law?
21 Bayahlangana ukumelana labalungileyo ongelacala agwetshelwe ukufa.
They band themselves together against the soul of the righteous, and innocent blood do they condemn.
22 Kodwa uThixo useyinqaba yami, loNkulunkulu wami ulidwala engiphephela kulo.
But the Lord is become my defence, and my God, the rock of my refuge.
23 Uzabaphindisela ngenxa yezono zabo ababhubhise ngenxa yobubi babo; uThixo uNkulunkulu wethu uzababhubhisa.
And he will bring back upon them their own injustice, and in their own wickedness will he destroy them: [yea], he will destroy them—the Lord our God.
