O Lord of hosts, how long is your anger to smoke, despite the prayer of your people?
5 Usubafunzile ngesinkwa sezinyembezi; ubenze banatha inyembezi ezigcwele umganu.
You have fed them with bread of tears, you have made them drink tears by the measure.
6 Ususenze saba yimbangela yengxabano kubomakhelwane bethu, lezitha zethu ziyasihleka.
The scorn of our neighbours you make us, the laughing-stock of our foes.
7 Sivuselele, Oh Nkulunkulu Somandla; khanyisa ubuso bakho kithi, ukuze sisindiswe.
God of hosts, restore us: show us the light of your face, so we may be saved.
8 Waletha ivini ulisusa eGibhithe; wazixotsha izizwe waligxumeka,
A vine out of Egypt you brought; you did drive out the nations, and plant her;
9 walicentela indawo labamba emhlabathini lagcwala ilizwe.
in the ground you did clear she struck root, and she filled all the land.
10 Izintaba zagcwala umthunzi walo, imisedari emikhulu yathi silikici ngamagatsha alo.
The shade of her covered the mountains, her branches the cedars of God.
11 Lakhulisa amagatsha alo anabela oLwandle, amahlumela alo afika kude eMfuleni.
She sent forth her shoots to the sea, and her branches as far as the River.
12 Kungani na usudilize imiduli yalo ukuze bonke abedlulayo baziqhululele izithelo zalo?
Why have you torn down her fences, and left her to be plucked at by all who pass by,
13 Ingulungunda ziyalivadlaza, lezidalwa zeganga zizitika ngalo.
to be gnawed by the boar from the forest, and devoured by the beasts of the field?
14 Buya kithi, Oh Nkulunkulu Somandla! Khangela phansi usezulwini ubone! Nakekela ivini leli,
O God of hosts, return: look down from heaven and see and visit this vine, and restore her
15 impande ehlanyelwe yisandla sakho sokunene, indodana ozondlele yona wena.
the vine which your right hand has planted.
16 Ivini lakho seliqunyiwe, selitshiswe ngomlilo; ngokukhuza kwakho abantu bayabhubha.
She is burned with fire and cut down before your stern face they are perishing.
17 Yeyamisa isandla sakho emuntwini ongakwesokunene kwakho, indodana yomuntu ozondlele yona.
Support the one you have chosen, the one you have raised for yourself;
18 Yikho asiyikukufulathela, sivuselele, ukuze sibize ibizo lakho.
then from you we will never draw back. Preserve us, and we will call on your name.
