1 Ngemva kwesifo uThixo wathi kuMosi lo-Eliyazari indodana ka-Aroni, umphristi,
And it came to pass, after the plague, that Yahweh spake unto Moses, and unto Eleazar son of Aaron the priest, saying:
2 “Balani abantu bonke abako-Israyeli ngezimuli zabo bonke abaleminyaka esukela kwengamatshumi amabili yokuzalwa kusiya phezulu abangaba libutho lako-Israyeli.”
Reckon ye up the sum of all the assembly of the sons of Israel from twenty years old and upwards, by their ancestral houses, —every one able to go forth to war in Israel.
3 Ngakho uMosi lo-Eliyazari umphristi batshela abantu basemagcekeni aseMowabi eduze lomfula uJodani ngaphetsheya kweJerikho bathi kubo,
So then Moses and Eleazar the priest spake with them, in the waste plains of Moab, —by the Jordan near Jericho saying:
4 “Balani amadoda aleminyaka yokuzalwa esukela kwengamatshumi amabili kusiya phezulu, njengokulaywa kukaMosi nguThixo.” Laba ngabako-Israyeli abaphuma eGibhithe:
From twenty years old and upwards, As Yahweh commanded Moses, and the sons of Israel, who had come forth out of the land of Egypt.
5 Izizukulwane zikaRubheni izibulo lika-Israyeli, kwakuyilezi: uHanokhi, wadabula abosendo lwamaHanokhi; uPhalu, wadabula abosendo lwamaPhalu;
Reuben, the firstborn of Israel, —the sons of Reuben, To Hanoch, pertained the family of the Hanochites; To Pallu, the family of the Palluites;
6 uHezironi wadabula abosendo lwamaHezironi; uKhami wadabula abosendo lwamaKhami.
To Hezron, the family of the Hezronites, —To Carmi, the family of the Carmites.
7 Laba babengabezinsendo zikaRubheni; inani labo lalizinkulungwane ezingamatshumi amane lantathu, lamakhulu ayisikhombisa alamatshumi amathathu.
These, are the families of the Reubenites, —and they who were numbered of them were found to be—forty-three thousand, and seven hundred, and thirty.
8 Indodana kaPhalu kwakungu-Eliyabi,
Now, the sons of Pallu, were Eliab;
9 njalo amadodana ka-Eliyabi kwakunguNemuweli, uDathani kanye lo-Abhiramu. Bona laba uDathani lo-Abhiramu yibo ababeyizikhulu zabantu abahlamukela uMosi lo-Aroni njalo babengabanye babalandeli bakaKhora ngesikhathi behlamukela uThixo.
and the sons of Eliab, Nemuel, and Dathan and Abiram, —The same, Dathan and Abiram, notable men of the assembly, who contended against Moses and against Aaron in the assembly of Korah, when they contended against Yahweh;
10 Umhlaba wavuleka wabaginya kanye loKhora, kanye labalandeli babo abafa beqothulwa ngumlilo bengamadoda angamakhulu amabili alamatshumi amahlanu. Njalo baba yisixwayiso.
and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up—with Korah also, when the assembly died, —when the fire consumed two hundred and fifty men, and they became a warning;
11 Loba kunjalo, inzalo kaKhora kayibhubhanga yonke, yaphela.
But, the sons of Korah, died not.
12 Izizukulwane zikaSimiyoni ngokwensendo zazo kwakuyilezi: uNemuweli wadabula abosendo lwamaNemuweli; uJamini wadabula abosendo lwamaJamini; uJakhini wadabula abosendo lwamaJakhini;
The sons of Simeon, by their families, To Nemuel, pertained the family of the Nemuelites, To Jamin, the family of the Jaminites, —To Jachin, the family of the Jachinites:
13 uZera wadabula abosendo lwamaZera; uShawuli wadabula abosendo lwamaShawuli.
To Zerah, the family of the Zerahites, —To Shaul, the family of the Shaulites:
14 Laba babengabezinsendo zikaSimiyoni; inani labo lalingamadoda azinkulungwane ezingamatshumi amabili lambili, lamakhulu amabili.
These, are the families of the Simeonites, —two and twenty thousand and two hundred.
15 Izizukulwane zikaGadi ngokwensendo zazo kwakuyilezi: uZifoni wadabula abosendo lwamaZifoni; uHagi wadabula abosendo lwamaHagi; uShuni wadabula abosendo lwamaShuni;
The sons of Gad, by their families, To Zephon, pertained the family of the Zephonites; To Haggi, the family of the Haggites, —To Shuni, the family of the Shunites;
16 u-Ozini wadabula abosendo lwama-Ozini; u-Eri wadabula abosendo lwama-Eri;
To Ozni, the family of the Oznites, —To Eri, the family of the Erites;
17 u-Arodi wadabula abosendo lwama-Arodi; u-Areli wadabula abosendo lwama-Areli.
To Arod, the family of the Arodites, —To Arelites, the family of the Arelites:
18 Laba bengabensendo zikaGadi; inani labo lalizinkulungwane ezingamatshumi amane lamakhulu amahlanu.
These, are the families of the sons of Gad, as to them who were numbered of them, —forty thousand and five hundred.
19 U-Eri lo-Onani babengamadodana kaJuda, kodwa bafela eKhenani.
The sons of Judah, Er and Onan, —but Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan.
20 Izizukulwane zikaJuda ngokwensendo zazo kwakuyilezi: uShela wadabula abosendo lwakoShela; uPherezi wadabula abosendo lwamaPherezi; uZera wadabula abosendo lwamaZera.
And so, as to the sons of Judah, by their families, it was found that—To Shelah, pertained the family of the Shelanites, To Perez, the family of the Perezites, —To Zerah, the family of the Zerahites;
21 Izizukulwane zikaPherezi kwakuyilezi: uHezironi wadabula abosendo lwamaHezironi; uHamuli wadabula abosendo lwamaHamuli.
And, as to the sons of Perez, it was found that—To Hezron, pertained the family of the Hezronites, —To Hamul, the family of the Hamulites:
22 Laba babezinsendo zikaJuda; inani labo lalizinkulungwane ezingamatshumi ayisikhombisa lesithupha, lamakhulu amahlanu.
These, are the families of Judah, as to them who were numbered of them, —seventy-six thousand, and five hundred,
23 Izizukulwane zika-Isakhari ngokwensendo zazo kwakuyilezi: uThola wadabula abosendo lwamaThola; uPhuwa wadabula abosendo lwamaPhuwa;
The sons of Issachar, by their families, Unto Tola, pertained the family of the Tolaites, —To Puvah, the family of the Puvites;
24 uJashubi wadabula abosendo lwamaJashubi; uShimroni wadabula abosendo lwamaShimroni.
To Jashub, the family of the Jashubites, —To Shimron, the family of the Shimronites:
25 Laba ngabensendo zika-Isakhari; inani labo lalizinkulungwane ezingamatshumi ayisithupha lane, lamakhulu amathathu.
These, are the families of Issachar. as to them who were numbered of them, —sixty-four thousand, and three hundred.
26 Izizukulwane zikaZebhuluni ngokwensendo zazo kwakuyilezi: uSeredi wadabula abosendo lwamaSeredi; u-Eloni wadabula abosendo lwama-Eloni; uJaliyeli wadabula abosendo lwamaJahileli.
The sons of Zebulun, by their families, To Sered, pertained the family of the Seredites, To Elon, the family of the Elonites, —To Jahleel, the family of the Jahleelites:
27 Laba ngabensendo zikaZebhuluni, inani labo lalizinkulungwane ezingamatshumi ayisithupha lamakhulu amahlanu.
These are the families of the Zebulunites as to them who were numbered of them, —sixty thousand, and five hundred.
28 Izizukulwane zikaJosefa ngokwensendo zabo bezalwa nguManase lo-Efrayimi kwakuyilezi:
The sons of Joseph by their families, —Manasseh, and Ephraim.
29 Izizukulwane zikaManase ngokwensendo zazo kwakuyilezi: uMakhiri wadabula abosendo lwamaMakhiri (uMakhiri wayenguyise kaGiliyadi); uGiliyadi wadabula abosendo lwamaGiliyadi.
The sons of Manasseh, To Machir, pertained the family of the Machirites, and, Machir, begat Gilead, —To Gilead, pertained the family of the Gileadites.
30 Laba yizizukulwane zikaGiliyadi: u-Iyezeri wadabula abosendo lwama-Iyezeri; uHelekhi wadabula abosendo lwamaHeleki;
These are the sons of Gilead: Iezer, the family of the Iezerites, —To Helek, the family of the Helekites;
31 u-Asiriyeli wadabula abosendo lwama-Asiriyeli; uShekhemu wadabula abosendo lwamaShekhemu;
And Asriel, the family of the Asrielites; And, Shechem, the family of the Shechemites;
32 uShemida wadabula abosendo lwamaShemida; uHeferi wadabula abosendo lwamaHeferi.
And Shemida, the family of the Shemidaites; And, Hepher, the family of the Hepherites.
33 (UZelofehadi indodana kaHeferi wayengelamadodana; wayelamadodakazi wodwa, amabizo awo ayenguMahila, uNowa, uHogila, uMilikha kanye loThiza.)
Now Zelophehad, son of Hepher, had no sons, but only, daughters, —and, the names of the daughters of Zelophehad, were Mahlah and Noah, Hoglah Milcah, and Tirzah.
34 Laba kwakungabensendo zikaManase; inani labo lalizinkulungwane ezingamatshumi amahlanu lambili, lamakhulu ayisikhombisa.
These, are the families of Manasseh, —and, they who were numbered of them, —fifty-two thousand, and seven hundred.
35 Laba kwakuyizizukulwane zika-Efrayimi ngokwensendo zazo: uShuthela wadabula abosendo lwamaShuthela; uBhekheri wadabula abosendo lwamaBhekheri; uThahani wadabula abosendo lwamaThahani.
These are the sons of Ephraim by their families, To Shuthelah, pertained the family of the Shuthelahites, To Becher, the family of the Becherites, —To Tahan, the family of the Tahanites.
36 Laba kwakuyizizukulwane zikaShuthela: u-Erani wadabula abosendo lwama-Erani.
And, these, are the sons of Shuthelah, To Eran, pertained the family of the Eranites.
37 Laba kwakungabensendo zika-Efrayimi; inani labo lalizinkulungwane ezingamatshumi amathathu lambili, lamakhulu amahlanu. Laba kwakuyizizukulwane zikaJosefa ngokwensendo zazo.
These, are the families of the sons of Ephraim, as to them who were numbered of them, —thirty-two thousand, and five hundred, These, are the sons of Joseph by their families.
38 Izizukulwane zikaBhenjamini ngokwensendo zazo kwakuyilezi: uBhela wadabula abosendo lwamaBhela; u-Ashibheli wadabula abosendo lwama-Ashibheli; u-Ahirami wadabula abosendo lwama-Ahirami;
The sons of Benjamin by their families, To Bela, pertained the family of the Belaites, To Ashbel, the family of the Ashbelites, —To Ahiram, the family of the Ahiramites;
39 uShufamu wadabula abosendo lwamaShufamu; uHufamu wadabula usendo lwamaHufamu
To Shephupham, the family of the Shuphamites, —To Hupham, the family of the Huphamites.
40 Izizukulwane zikaBhela ezazalwa ngu-Adi kanye loNamani yilezi: u-Adi wadabula abosendo lwama-Adithe; uNamani wadabula abosendo lwamaNamani.
And the sons of Bela were Ard and Naaman, —[To Ard, pertained] the family of the Ardites, To Naaman, the family of the Naamites.
41 Laba kwakungabensendo zikaBhenjamini; inani labo lalizinkulungwane ezingamatshumi amane lanhlanu, lamakhulu ayisithupha.
These, are the sons of Benjamin by their families, —and they who were numbered of them, —were forty-five thousand and six hundred.
42 Laba babeyizizukulwane zikaDani ngokwensendo zazo: uShuhamu wadabula abosendo lwamaShuhamu. Laba babengabezinsendo zikaDani:
These, are the sons of Dan, by their families: To Shuham, pertained the family of the Shuhamites, —These, are the families of Dan by their families:
43 Bonke babengabosendo lwamaShuhamu; njalo inani labo lalizinkulungwane ezingamatshumi ayisithupha lane, lamakhulu amane.
All the families of the Shuhamites, as to them who were numbered of them, were, sixty-four thousand, and four hundred.
44 Izizukulwane zika-Asheri ngokwensendo zazo kwakuyilezi: u-Imna wadabula abosendo lwama-Imna; u-Ishivi wadabula abosendo lwama-Ishivi; uBheriya wadabula abosendo lwamaBheriya;
The sons of Asher, by their families: To Imnah, pertained the family of the Imnites, To Ishvi, the family of the Ishvites, —To Beriah, the family of the Beriites;
45 njalo izizukulwane ezadatshulwa nguBheriya yilezi: uHebheri wadabula abosendo lwamaHebheri; uMalikhiyeli wadabula abosendo lwamaMalikhiyeli.
To the sons of Beriah, To Heber, pertained the family of the Heberites, To Malchiel, the family of the Malchielites;
46 (U-Asheri wayelendodakazi okwakuthiwa nguSera.)
And, the name of the daughter of Asher, was Serah.
47 Laba babengabezinsendo zika-Asheri; inani labo lalizinkulungwane ezingamatshumi amahlanu lantathu, lamakhulu amane.
These, are the families of the sons of Asher as to them who were numbered of them, —fifty-three thousand and four hundred.
48 Izizukulwane zikaNafithali ngokwensendo zazo kwakuyilezi: uJaziyeli wadabula abosendo lwamaJaziyeli; uGuni wadabula abosendo lwamaGuni;
The sons of Naphtali, by their families, To Jahzeel, pertained the family of the Jahzeelites; To Guni, the family of the Gunites:
49 uJezeri wadabula abosendo lwamaJezeri; uShilemu wadabula abosendo lwamaShilemu.
To Jezer, the family of the Jezerites; To Shillem, the family of the Shillemites.
50 Laba babengabezinsendo zikaNafithali; inani labo lalizinkulungwane ezingamatshumi amane lanhlanu, lamakhulu amane.
These are the families of Naphtali, by their families, —and they who were numbered of them, were forty-five thousand and four hundred.
51 Inani lamadoda wonke ako-Israyeli lalizinkulungwane ezingamakhulu ayisithupha lanye, lamakhulu ayisikhombisa alamatshumi amathathu.
These, are they who were numbered of the sons of Israel, six hundred and one thousand, —seven hundred and thirty,
52 UThixo wathi kuMosi,
Then spake Yahweh unto Moses, saying:
53 “Ilizwe lizakwahlukaniselwa abantu njengelifa labo kusiya ngenani lamabizo abo.
Unto these, shall be apportioned the land as an inheritance by the number of names.
54 Isizwe esikhulu uzasinika isabelo esikhulu, kuthi isizwana esincinyane usiphe isabelo esincane; isizwana ngasinye sizakwabelwa ilifa laso ngokuya ngenani lamabizo alabo ababhaliweyo.
For the large one, thou shalt make large his inheritance, and for the small one, thou shalt make small his inheritance, —unto each one, in proportion to them who were numbered of him, shall be given his inheritance.
55 Iba leqiniso lokuthi ilizwe labiwa ngenkatho. Isabelo seqembu ngalinye sizakuya ngamabizo esizwana sabokhokho baso.
Nevertheless by lot, shall the land be apportioned, —by the names of the tribes of their fathers, shall they inherit.
56 Isabelo ngasinye selizwe sizakwehlukaniswa ngokwenza inkatho phakathi kwezizwana ezinkulu lezincinyane.”
At the bidding of the lot, shall be apportioned his inheritance, —between large and small.
57 Laba ngabaLevi ababalwa kulandelwa insendo zabo: uGeshoni wadabula abosendo lwamaGeshoni; uKhohathi wadabula abosendo lwamaKhohathi; uMerari wadabula abosendo lwamaMerari.
And these, are they who were numbered of the Levites by their families, To Gershon, pertained the family of the Gershonites, To Kohath, the family of the Kohathites; To Merari, the family of the Merarites.
58 Laba labo babengabezinsendo zabaLevi: usendo lwamaLibhini, usendo lwamaHebhroni, usendo lwamaMahili, usendo lwamaMushi, usendo lwamaKhora. (UKhohathi wayengukhokho ka-Amramu;
These, are the families of Levi—The family of the Libnites, The family of the Hebronites, The family of the Mahlites, The family of the Mushites, The family of the Korahites, —And, Kohath, begat Amram;
59 inkosikazi ka-Amramu kwakunguJokhebhedi, oyisizukulwane sikaLevi, owayezalelwe eGibhithe ngabaLevi. Wazala lo-Amramu u-Aroni, loMosi kanye lodadewabo uMiriyemu.
and the name of the wife of Amram, was Jochebed daughter of Levi, who was born to Levi in Egypt, —and she bare to Amram Aaron and Moses, and Miriam their sister:
60 U-Aroni wayenguyise kaNadabi, u-Abhihu, u-Eliyazari kanye lo-Ithamari.
And, there were born to Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, —Eleazar and Ithamar;
61 Kodwa uNadabi lo-Abhihu bafa baze banikele kuThixo ngomlilo ongavunyelwayo.)
But Nadab and Abihu died, —when they brought near strange fire before Yahweh:
62 Bonke abaLevi abesilisa ababalwayo kusukela kwabalenyanga eyodwa yokuzalwa kusiya phezulu babezinkulungwane ezingamatshumi amabili lantathu. Kababalwanga ndawonye labanye abako-Israyeli ngoba kabanikwanga isabelo esiyilifa phakathi kwabo.
And they who were numbered of them were found to be—twenty-three thousand, all the males from one month old and upwards—for they had not numbered themselves in the midst of the sons of Israel, because there was given unto them no inheritance, in the midst of the sons of Israel.
63 Laba yibo ababalwa nguMosi lo-Eliyazari umphristi mhla bebala abako-Israyeli emagcekeni aseMowabi nganeno komfula iJodani malungana leJerikho.
These, are they who were numbered by Moses, and Eleazar, the priest, —when they numbered the sons of Israel, in the waste plains of Moab, by Jordan, near Jericho.
64 Kwakungekho loyedwa phakathi kwabo owayekhona mhla uMosi lo-Aroni bebala abako-Israyeli enkangala yaseSinayi.
And among these, was there not found a man of them who had been numbered by Moses, and Aaron the priest, —when they numbered the sons of Israel in the desert of Sinai.
65 Ngoba uThixo wayetshilo kwabako-Israyeli labo ukuthi ngempela babezakufa enkangala, njalo kakho loyedwa wabo owasalayo ngaphandle kukaKhalebi indodana kaJefune loJoshuwa indodana kaNuni.
For Yahweh had said of them, They shall surely die, in the desert. And there was not left of them a man, save only, Caleb son of Jephunneh, and Joshua son of Nun.
