1 UJesu wangena esikepeni wachaphela ngasedolobheni lakibo.
And he entered the ship, and passed over and came to his own city.
2 Amanye amadoda aletha kuye indoda eyayome umhlubulo ilele ecansini. UJesu ebona ukholo lwawo wathi kweyome umhlubulo, “Woba lesibindi, ndodana; izono zakho sezithethelelwe.”
And they brought to him a paralytic, lying on a bed. And Jesus saw their faith, and said to the paralytic: Take courage, my son; thy sins are forgiven thee.
3 Bekuzwa lokho abanye abafundisi bomthetho bahleba bodwa bathi, “Umuntu lo uyahlambaza!”
And some of the Scribes said in their minds, This man blasphemeth.
4 Esazi imicabango yabo uJesu wathi kubo, “Kungani licabanga izinto ezimbi ezinhliziyweni zenu na?
But Jesus knew their thoughts: and he said to them, Why do ye think evil things in your heart?
5 Yikuphi okulula ukuthi, ‘Izono zakho sezithethelelwe’ kumbe ukuthi, ‘Sukuma uhambe’?
For, which is the easier, to say, Thy sins are forgiven thee; or to say, Arise and walk?
6 Kodwa ngifuna lazi ukuthi iNdodana yoMuntu ilamandla okuthethelela izono emhlabeni.” Wasesithi kweyome umhlubulo, “Sukuma uthathe icansi lakho uhambe uye ekhaya.”
But that ye may know that the Son of man hath authority on earth to forgive sins, he said to the paralytic: Arise, take up thy bed, and go to thy home.
7 Indoda yasukuma yaqonda ekhaya.
And he arose and went to his home.
8 Ixuku labantu lathi likubona lokhu lesaba kakhulu; lamdumisa uNkulunkulu owayenike amandla la ebantwini.
And when the multitudes saw it, they were struck with awe; and they praised God, who had given authority like this to men.
9 Kwathi uJesu eseqhubeka esuka lapho, wabona indoda eyayithiwa nguMatewu ihlezi endaweni yokuthelisa. UJesu wathi kuyo “Ngilandela,” uMatewu wahle wasukuma wamlandela.
And as Jesus passed on from there, he saw a man sitting at the custom-house, whose name was Matthew. And he said to him, Follow me: and he arose and followed him.
10 Kwathi uJesu esidla endlini kaMatewu kweza abathelisi abanengi lezoni bonke bezokudla laye kanye labafundi bakhe.
And as they were reclining in a house, many publicans an sinners came and reclined with Jesus and his disciples.
11 Kuthe abaFarisi bekubona lokho babuza abafundi bakhe bathi, “Kungani umfundisi wenu esidla labathelisi lezoni na?”
And when the Pharisees saw it they said to his disciples, Why doth your Rabbi eat with publicans and sinners?
12 UJesu wakuzwa lokho wathi, “Abaphilileyo kabayidingi inyanga kodwa idingwa ngabagulayo.
And as Jesus heard it, he said to them: They who are in health have no need of a physician, but they that are very sick.
13 Kodwa hambani liyefunda ukuthi kutshoni lokhu ukuthi, ‘Ngoba ngifuna isihawu hatshi umhlatshelo.’Ngoba kangilandanga ukubiza abalungileyo, kodwa izoni.”
Go and learn what that is: I require compassion, and not a sacrifice! For I did not come to call the righteous, but the sinful.
14 Kwasekufika abafundi bakaJohane bambuza bathi, “Kungani thina labaFarisi sizila kodwa abafundi bakho kabazili?”
Then came to him the disciples of John, and said: Why do we and the Pharisees fast much and thy disciples fast not?
15 UJesu waphendula wathi, “Izethekeli zomyeni zingalila kanjani esesekhona phakathi kwazo na? Sizafika isikhathi lapho umyeni ezasuswa kuzo; kulapho-ke ezizazila khona.
Jesus said to them: Can the children of the nuptial chamber fast, so long as the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them, and then they will fast.
16 Kakho umuntu othungela isichibi selembu elitsha elingakafinyeli esigqokweni esidala, ngoba isichibi sizadonsa esigqokweni ukudabuka kuqhele ngamandla.
No one inserteth a piece of new cloth on an old garment; lest that which filleth up, tear from that garment, and the rent become greater.
17 Futhi abantu kabatheli iwayini elitsha emigodleni emidala. Bangenzenjalo imigodla izadabuka, iwayini lichitheke lemigodla ihle iguge iphele. Kodwa, bathela iwayini elitsha emigodleni emitsha besekulondolozeka kuhle kokubili.”
And they do not put new wine into old sacks; lest the sacks burst, and the wine run out, and the sacks perish. But they put new wine into new sacks and they are both preserved.
18 Wathi esakhuluma lokhu kwafika umbusi waguqa phambi kwakhe wathi, “Indodakazi yami isanda kufa. Kodwa ngicela uzebeka isandla sakho phezu kwayo, izaphila.”
And while he was thus discoursing with them a certain ruler came, drew near, worshipped him and said: My daughter is already dead, but come lay thy hand upon her, and she will live.
19 UJesu wasuka wahamba laye kanye labafundi bakhe.
And Jesus rose up, and his disciples; and they followed him.
20 Khonokho owesifazane owayehlutshwa ngumopho okweminyaka elitshumi lambili weza ngemva kwakhe wabamba umphetho wesembatho sakhe.
And behold, a woman whose blood had flowed fourteen years, came up behind him, and touched the extremity of his robe:
21 Wazitshela wathi, “Nxa ngingathinta nje isembatho sakhe kodwa lokhu, ngizasila.”
for she had said in her mind, If I but touch his garment I shall be cured.
22 UJesu wanyemukula wambona. Wathi kuye, “Mana isibindi ndodakazi, ukholo lwakho lukusilisile.” Lakanye owesifazane lowo wasila ngalesosikhathi.
And Jesus turned himself, looked at her, and said to her: Take courage, my daughter; thy faith hath given thee life. And the woman was cured from that very hour.
23 UJesu wathi esengenile endlini yombusi wesinagogu wabona ababetshaya imihubhe kanye lexuku elalixokozela,
And Jesus came to the house of the ruler: and he saw there pipers, and multitudes making outcry.
24 wathi kubo, “Phumani. Intombazana kayifanga kodwa ilele.” Kodwa bamhleka usulu.
And he said to them: Retire; for the maid is not dead, but sleepeth. And they scoffed at him.
25 Ixuku labantu selikhutshelwe phandle, wangena wayibamba ngesandla intombazana yaphakama.
And when he had ejected the throngs, he entered in, and took her by the hand, and the maid rose up.
26 Indaba yesehlakalo lesi yamemetheka kuwo wonke umango wakuleyondawo.
And the fame of this thing spread in all that land.
27 Kwathi uJesu esuka lapho amadoda ayiziphofu amabili amlandela ememeza esithi, “Sihawukele, Ndodana kaDavida!”
And when Jesus had passed from there, two blind men followed after him, and said: Have mercy on us, Thou Son of David!
28 Esengenile endlini iziphofu lezo zeza kuye wazibuza wathi, “Liyakholwa na ukuthi ngingakwenza lokhu?” Zamphendula zathi, “Yebo Nkosi.”
And when he had entered a house, those blind men approached him, and Jesus said to them: Believe ye that I am able to do this? They said to him, Yes, our Lord.
29 Wasezithinta amehlo wathi kuzo, “Kuzakwenziwa kini njengokukholwa kwenu”;
Then he touched their eyes, and said: As ye have believed, so shall it be to you.
30 zasiliswa zabona. UJesu waziqonqosela wathi, “Akungabi lomuntu ozakwazi ngalokhu.”
And forthwith their eyes were opened. And Jesus charged them and said: See, that no man know of it.
31 Kodwa zasuka lapho zafakaza ngaye indawo yonke yelizwe lelo.
But they went out and spread the fame of it in all that land.
32 Ekuphumeni kwalezoziphofu, kwalethwa kuJesu indoda eyayiledimoni iyisimungulu.
And as Jesus went out, they brought to him a dumb man in whom was a demon.
33 Kwathi idimoni selikhutshiwe indoda leyo eyayiyisimungulu yakhuluma. Ixuku labantu lamangala, abantu bathi, “Akukaze kubonakale okunje ko-Israyeli.”
And when the demon had gone out, the dumb man conversed. And the multitudes admired, and said: Never was it so seen in Israel!
34 Kodwa abaFarisi bathi, “Amadimoni uwakhupha ngenkosi yamadimoni.”
But the Pharisees said: It is by the Prince of demons, he casteth out demons.
35 UJesu wangena kuwo wonke amadolobho lemizi efundisa emasinagogweni abo, etshumayela izindaba ezinhle ezombuso njalo eselapha zonke izifo lemikhuhlane.
And Jesus traveled over all the cities and the villages: and he taught in their synagogues, and proclaimed the tidings of the kingdom, and healed all diseases and all pains.
36 Wathi ebona amaxuku abantu wawazwela usizi ngoba ayehlukuluzekile njalo ephelelwe, enjengezimvu ezingelamelusi.
And when Jesus looked on the multitudes, he pitied them; because they were wearied and dispersed, like sheep that have no shepherd.
37 Wasesithi kubafundi bakhe, “Isivuno sinengi kodwa izisebenzi zimbalwa.
And he said to his disciples, The harvest is great, and the laborers few.
38 Ngakho celani iNkosi yokuvuna ukuba ithumele izisebenzi ensimini yokuvuna.”
Entreat, therefore, of the Lord of the harvest, that he would send laborers into his harvest.
